Book excerpt: L'analyse de séquences d'images en vue de l'obtention de trajectoires d'objets (voitures, missiles, particules,) est un domaine en pleine expansion, et généralement, les systèmes conçus sont adaptés à la nature même des applications. En effet, selon les contraintes issues des applications, les algorithmes sont plus ou moins complexes. Toutefois, ils reposent tous sur l'étude de phénomènes temporels et le processus d'extraction de trajectoires est conduit par l'introduction de contraintes et d'hypothèses concernant les objets (vitesse, couleur, texture,) puis par la vérification de leur admissibilité. La recherche menée vise à définir une méthode générale de suivi de trajectoires qui permet de prendre en compte les difficultés propres à l'analyse gestuelle tout en restant ouverte à d'autres applications par l'adaptation des critères d'association spatio-temporelle. Sa validation est proposée sur des applications présentés au laboratoire d'automatique et de mécanique industrielles et humaines (l'étude du comportement de l'homme lors de collisions et la biomécanique) mais également sur des séquences d'images de test afin de vérifier que la méthode est robuste face aux divers problèmes fréquemment rencontres dans ces applications

Franck Laloë was a researcher at the Kastler-Brossel laboratory of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. His first assignment was with the University of Paris VI before he was appointed to the CNRS, the French National Research Center. His research was focused on optical pumping, statistical mechanics of quantum gases, musical acoustics and the foundations of quantum mechanics.

Book excerpt: The three concepts mentioned in the title of this volume imply the contact between two or more literary phenomena; they are based on similarities that are related to a form of ‘travelling’ and imitation or adaptation of entire texts, genres, forms or contents. Transfer comprises all sorts of ‘travelling’, with translation as a major instrument of transferring literature across linguistic and cultural barriers. Transfer aims at the process of communication, starting with the source product and its cultural context and then highlighting the mediation by certain agents and institutions to end up with inclusion in the target culture. Reception lays its focus on the receiving culture, especially on critcism, reading, and interpretation. Translation, therefore, forms a major factor in reception with the general aim of reception studies being to reveal the wide spectrum of interpretations each text offers. Moreover, translations are the prime instrument in the distribution of literature across linguistic and cultural borders; thus, they pave the way for gaining prestige in the world of literature. The thirty-eight papers included in this volume and dedicated to research in this area were previously read at the ICLA conference 2016 in Vienna. They are ample proof that the field remains at the center of interest in Comparative Literature.

The small French town of Ainay-le-Ch�teau and its environs are the site of a "family colony" for men, established in 1900. Here the patients ("lodgers") live with ordinary families ("foster parents"), hold jobs, and are free to move about the countryside. Jodelet's chronicle of daily life in the colony is made rich and vivid by extensive ethnographic material as she unravels a complex set of relationships, ultimately finding that while some of the barriers between the "other" and the larger society have been overcome, new ones have arisen in their place. This unique social experiment provides invaluable social and cultural insights, illuminating many fundamental issues in psychology, psychiatry, and sociology.
