Book Proposal to Study Neutrino Interactions in the 30 M 3 NAL Bubble Chamber with Muon Identifier

This book was released on 1971 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We propose to study high-energy neutrino intersections in the NAL 30 m3 bubble chamber. A slight alteration of the chamber design will allow a large-solid-angle quantameter to be placed just outside the thin (1/2 inch steel) wall of the bubble chamber. A detector, designed to identify the muon of the interaction is placed outside the vacuum tank. With this hybrid system they can reconstruct the neutrino's energy, the lepton momentum transfer squared, Q2, the lepton energy transfer and measure many features of the final hadron state. This system detects with high efficiency over the entire range of variables and is well suited to making a detailed general survey of neutrino interactions in the neutrino energy range 15 to 80 GeV. A million-picture exposure would yield tens of thousands of neutrino interactions with circulating protons at 200 GeV. A similar number of events should be obtained with protons at 500 GeV.

Book Antineutrino proton Interactions in the 15 foot Bubble Chamber

Download or read book Antineutrino proton Interactions in the 15 foot Bubble Chamber written by and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From 24,000 pictures of the Fermilab 15-foot hydrogen bubble chamber exposed to a broad band anti $nu$ beam, there were 89 anti $nu$p $Yields$ $mu$$sup +$ + X$sup 0$ events with a total momentum in the charged tracks greater than 5 GeV/c obtained. The techniques used to identify the muon are discussed, and the anti $nu$ energy is estimated. The charged particle multiplicity distributions and the mean $pi$$sup 0$ multiplicity are presented. The semi- inclusive X, Y, Z, Q$sup 2$ and W distributions are compared with model predictions. The rate of strange particle production is measured. No evidence was found for charm particle production. (auth).

Book Preliminary Proposal to Study Neutrino Interactions with Neutrons and Protons Using the 15 Foot Bubble Chamber at NAL Filled with Deuterium

Download or read book Preliminary Proposal to Study Neutrino Interactions with Neutrons and Protons Using the 15 Foot Bubble Chamber at NAL Filled with Deuterium written by and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We propose an investigation of neutrino interactions in the deuterium filled 15-foot bubble chamber at NAL. A 250,000 picture run with 200 GeV protons should yield very interesting physics even with a 'bare' deuterium chamber. This addendum extends the physics discussion in the original proposal to the search for charm particles, and the study of neutral currents. A (?{sub {mu}}, d) bubble chamber exposure with E{sub P} = 200-300 GeV is the most promising experiment that can be done to search for the type of charm particles that are essential to Gauge theories of weak and electromagnetic interactions. This addendum updates and summarizes Proposal 151. We propose a 300,000 picture run of the 15-foot bubble chamber filled with deuterium exposed to a wide band, 2 horn, neutrino beam from protons of energy E{sub p} ≥ 300 GeV. The analysis will be based primarily on the bare bubble chamber data but will also use the EMI wherever useful. The physics purposes of the experiment include: (1) Extensive search for charmed baryons and mesons; Determination of the ratio of the total charged current cross sections?(?, n)/?(?,0); (3) Determination of d2?{sup C.C.}/dxdy for (?, n) and (?, p) interactions separately; (4) Study of (?, n) and (?, p) neutral current interactions; and (5) Physics of Special Channels in charged current and neutral current events.

Book Strange Particle Production in Neutrino neon Charged Current Interactions

Download or read book Strange Particle Production in Neutrino neon Charged Current Interactions written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neutral strange particle production in charged-current muon-neutrino interactions have been studied in the Fermilab 15-foot neon bubble chamber. Associated production is expected to be the major source of strange particles in charged-current neutrino interactions. sigma-neutral and xi-minus production by neutrinos was observed. The dependence on various leptonic and hadronic variables is investigated. A fit to single and associated production of s, s/anti-s, and c quarks is described based on the number of single and double strange particle production events. Inclusive neutral strange particle decays (V°) production rates as a fraction of all charged-current events are measured and are tabulated. The lambda/K ratio is found to be 0.39 +- 0.04 and the fraction of lambda coming from sigma-neutral is (16 +- 5)%. The single- and double V° production was used to determine the associated s anti-s production rate and single s-quark production rate. 13 refs., 7 figs., 3 tabs. (LEW).

Book Neutrino Production of new Particles in Bubble Chambers

Download or read book Neutrino Production of new Particles in Bubble Chambers written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some results from the study of neutrino interactions above 1 GeV are summarized which are relevant to the utility of such investigations for unearthing new phenomena. The variety of experimental searches and their relevance, bubble chamber techniques, review of the Glashow--Iliopoulos--Maiani model predictions for leptonic decay, and some experimental results for charmed and strange particle phenomena, di-lepton results, nonleptonic decay of charm, evidence for D° production, and heavy leptons are discussed. Book Search for Anti neutrino Induced Muon E Events

Download or read book Search for Anti neutrino Induced Muon E Events written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors have examined 1200 interactions with visible energies greater than 7.5 GeV produced by an anti-neutrino beam in the Fermilab 15-foot bubble chamber filled with a light neon hydrogen mixture. They have found one event with a?e− and hadrons in the final state, but with no evidence of strange particle production. This event may be an example of dilepton production by an anti-neutrino interaction, but other interpretations are possible. With 90% confidence, they conclude that the rate for the process {bar {nu}} + N → e− +?+ + hadrons is ≤ .8% of charged current anti-neutrino interactions with visible energy> 7.5 GeV.
