Book excerpt: Volume 2 of the 'Conflict of the Ages' book series, 'The Story of Prophets and Kings,' covers the Biblical history of the world from King Solomon to Malachi. This key Seventh Day Adventist text explains in detail the SDA understanding of the conflict between God and Satan and their understanding of the Bible and much of world history. White wrote the series based on her research of other authors and special information which she claimed to receive through visions from God. The books thus include unique insights and concepts not found in other works of the time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Throughout the history of the Israelite kingdoms there were prophets who prophesied nothing but favorable consequences for the actions of their political leaders. Opposing them were prophets who drew a distinction between the will of Yahweh for his people and the opportunistic aims of the monarchs. In the Micaiah narratives of I Kings 22 are seen two early stages in the development of this ideological conflict. Simon John De Vries examines thoroughly these early stages in order to find and understand the root causes of the conflict that led finally to national ruin."--Back cover

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Prophets: As Statesmen and Preachers In the present course of lessons, the effort is made to understand the life and work of Israel's great prophets in connection with the history of their times, and to show how their teachings developed with the changing conditions and needs of successive generations. This historical method of studying prophecy has the twofold advantage of giving vital interest to books that often seem remote from human life, and of avoiding many dangers of erroneous interpretation. Application of the prophetical teaching to our own day is made only after an attempt to understand what the prophet intended to teach his own generation; and then the application is often so plain that no thoughtful Christian can fail to make it for himself. This second book in the "Pilgrim Series of Advanced Lessons" follows naturally after the more general study of "The Books of the Bible with Relation to their Place in History," yet the present course is complete in itself and may profitably be pursued by those who have not followed the earlier course. The lessons are arranged in two groups of twelve with a review following each group, so that the course offers one lesson a week for six months. If time permits, the final review may well be extended over two weeks, as indicated in the text. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
