Book The demand for consumer durables

Download or read book The demand for consumer durables written by W.J. Oomens and published by Springer. This book was released on 1976-08-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The use of growth functions for estimating developments in consumer demand is already rather old. In many books on 'mathematics for economists' one can find one or more examples of growth functions, however, usually without any economic considerations as a background. Furthermore there are many econometric contributions on the subject scattered over many books and journals. In this book - the English translation of the author's doctoral thesis - , Dr. W.J. Oomens gives a highly unified treatment of the subject. The book consists of two main parts, preceded by an introduction and concluded by an application. The first main part starts with a discussion of the general notions underlying the theory of the development of demand for new consumer durable goods and next describes the many models known from the literature, using these general notions. Because of the unified treatment the author succeeds in clearly ranking the different models, in presenting the aspects they have in cornmon and in explaining the properties which are different in the models being described. The critical discussion of the existing models leads a.o. to a new model, the 'heterogeneous generalized logistic model', in which environmental variables are inserted into the purchase propensity function as well as into the function for the variable saturation degree.

Download or read book From Red to Green written by Paul Donovan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-11 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by an economist and an investment professional, this book addresses the twin crises that the world is facing in the form of a simultaneous financial and environmental credit crunch. Financially, consumers are less able to consume now, and pay later. Environmentally, we may have already reached our credit limit and the bill for past financial and environmental consumption is falling due. Whether the financial credit crunch constrains consumers in a way that will be environmentally supportive, naturally slowing the consumption of finite resources, or hinders any effective resolution of the environmental credit crunch is of crucial importance. Policy responses to the financial crisis are likely to be constrained by the political need to support the economic status quo, and when combined with a global reduction in available investment capital there are serious challenges ahead if the economic and environmental damage of the environmental credit crunch is to be minimised. This book asks whether financial crunch-induced changes in consumer behaviour will be enough to avoid, or reduce, the environmental crunch many believe is just round the corner. Donovan and Hudson combine their respective economic and environmental perspectives to address this key question, reviewing this 'tale of two crunches' from the perspective of different economic sectors. The answer to the conundrum this book poses may lie in the only unlimited resource on the planet - human ingenuity.

Book Dynamics of consumer demand for new durable goods

Download or read book Dynamics of consumer demand for new durable goods written by Gautam Gowrisankaran and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper specifies and estimates a dynamic model of consumer preferences for new durable goods with persistent heterogeneous consumer tastes, rational expectations about future products and repeat purchases over time. Most new consumer durable goods, particularly consumer electronics, are characterized by relatively high initial prices followed by rapid declines in prices and improvements in quality. The evolving nature of product attributes suggests the importance of modeling dynamics in estimating consumer preferences. We estimate the model on the digital camcorder industry using a panel data set on prices, sales and characteristics. We find that dynamics are a very important determinant of consumer preferences and that estimated coefficients are more plausible than with traditional static models. We use the estimates to evaluate cost-of-living indices for new consumer goods and dynamic demand elasticities.

Book Economic Analysis for Property and Business

Download or read book Economic Analysis for Property and Business written by Marcus Warren and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2007-08-22 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marcus Warren's book provides a broad coverage of economic theory, analysis and policy relevant to most undergraduate students studying economics as part of their degree. Specifically it is designed for students studying for property and business related courses and is a vital purchase for all first year students and some second year students involved in these disciplines. It is also relevant for accountancy, business and marketing students studying economics as one or two of their modules. The main feature of this book is the inclusion of an application for students on property surveying courses, building surveying courses and rural land management students as well as some pure business examples for the business students. These applications will cover the main markets for this book at the end of each theory section. The text is clear, concise and includes real life examples and case studies to back up the theory presented. It is global in its appeal, especially relevant for the UK, Europe and the Commonwealth.

Book The Economic Cycle and the Growth of the Chinese Economy

Download or read book The Economic Cycle and the Growth of the Chinese Economy written by Li Jianwei and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-16 with total page 325 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nature of the economic cycle has been a long-standing problem for economists. Key questions include: What are the causes of the economic cycle? Are the causes endogenous or exogenous? and Why is the economic cycle irregular? This book explores the theory of the economic cycle in relation to economic growth in China. The book concludes that the cause of the economic cycle is endogenous, that the periodic fluctuation of economic growth and its dynamic equilibrium are natural aspects of the growth of the economy, and it puts forward a new model of the economic cycle which confidently predicts the future trajectory of China’s economic growth.
