Download or read book Prompt Neutron Fission Spectrum Mean Energies for the Fissile Nuclides and 252Cf written by and published by . This book was released on 1985 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The international standard for a neutron spectrum is that produced from the spontaneous fission of 252Cf, while the thermal neutron induced fission neutron spectra for the four fissile nuclides, 233U, 235U, 239Pu, and 241Pu are of interest from the standpoint of nuclear reactors. The average neutron energies of these spectra are tabulated. The individual measurements are recorded with the neutron energy range measured, the method of detection as well as the average neutron energy for each author. Also tabulated are the measurements of the ratio of mean energies for pairs of fission neutron spectra. 75 refs., 9 tabs. (LEW).

Book Prompt fission neutron Spectra of 233U 235U 239Pu and 24 Pu Relative to that of 252Cf 550 and 850 KeV

Download or read book Prompt fission neutron Spectra of 233U 235U 239Pu and 24 Pu Relative to that of 252Cf 550 and 850 KeV written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prompt-neutron-induced-fission spectra of 233U, 235U, 239Pu, and 24°Pu are measured relative to the prompt-spontaneous-fission-neutron spectrum of 252Cf. The fission of 233U, 235U, and 239Pu is induced by approx. = 550-keV neutrons, and that of 24°Pu, by approx. = 850-keV neutrons. The emitted fission neutrons are observed over the energy range less than or equal to 0.5 to 10.0 MeV by use of time-of-flight techniques. Analysis of the measured values indicates that the average-fission-neutron energies are -123 +- 30 (233U), -157 +- 24 (235U), -76 +- 29 (239Pu), and -46 +- 29 (24°Pu) keV relative to the energy for 252Cf. The experimental results are compared with those of ENDF/B-V, and a simple behavior of average-prompt-fission-neutron energies is suggested.

Book Differential and Integral Comparisons of Three Representations of the Prompt Neutron Spectrum for the Spontaneous Fission of 252Cf

Download or read book Differential and Integral Comparisons of Three Representations of the Prompt Neutron Spectrum for the Spontaneous Fission of 252Cf written by and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Because of their importance as neutron standards, we present comparisons of measured and calculated prompt fission neutron spectra N(E) and average prompt neutron multiplicities anti nu/sub p/ for the spontaneous fission of 252Cf. In particular, we test three representations of N(E) against recent experimental measurements of the differential spectrum and threshold integral cross sections. These representations are the Maxwellian spectrum, the NBS spectrum, and the Los Alamos spectrum of Madland and Nix. For the Maxwellian spectrum, we obtain the value of the Maxwellian temperature T/sub M/ by a least-squares adjustment to the experimental differential spectrum of Poenitz and Tamura. For the Los Alamos spectrum, a similar least-squares adjustment determines the nuclear level-density parameter a, which is the single unknown parameter that appears. The NBS spectrum has been previously constructed by adjustments to eight differential spectra measured during the period 1965 to 1974. Among these three representations, we find that the Los Alamos spectrum best reproduces both the differential and integral measurements, assuming ENDF/B-V cross sections in the calculation of the latter. Although the NBS spectrum reproduces the integral measurements fairly well, it fails to satisfactorily reproduce the new differential measurement, and the Maxwellian spectrum fails to satisfactorily reproduce the integral measurements. Additionally, we calculate a value of anti nu/sub p/ from the Los Alamos theory that is within approximately 1% of experiment. 25 references.

Book Recent Improvements in the Calculation of Prompt Fission Neutron Spectra

Download or read book Recent Improvements in the Calculation of Prompt Fission Neutron Spectra written by and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three tropics have been considered in the refinement and improvement of our original calculations of prompt fission neutron spectra. These are an improved calculation of the prompt fission neutron spectrum N(E) from the spontaneous fission of 252Cf, a complete calculation of the prompt fission neutron spectrum matrix N(E, E/sub n/) from the neutron-induced fission of 235U, at incident neutron energies ranging from 0 to 15 MeV, and an assessment of the scission neutron component of the prompt fission neutron spectrum. Preliminary results will be presented and compared with experimental measurements and an evaluation. A suggestion has been made for new integral cross-section measurements.

Book Status of Cf 252 Neutron Spectrum as a Standard

Download or read book Status of Cf 252 Neutron Spectrum as a Standard written by W. Mannhart and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In reactor metrology, the neutron spectrum of the spontaneous fission of Cf-252 has been used as a standard for many years. Nevertheless, the shape of this spectrum has not yet been unambiguously established. Only recently, the situation changed completely. Based on experimental data, a systematic evaluation of the spectrum was made. The result defines the spectrum with a precision never before attained and comprises a complete uncertainty covariance matrix.

Book Investigation of the Prompt neutron Spectrum for Spontaneously fissioning 252Cf

Download or read book Investigation of the Prompt neutron Spectrum for Spontaneously fissioning 252Cf written by and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The prompt-fission-neutron spectrum of 252Cf was investigated. The spectrum was measured with Black Neutron Detectors which have a well known efficiency. Considerations of various issues in such measurements lead to an experiment in which a time-calibration pulser, a random pulser, the neutron detector time-of-flight spectrum, the pulse-shape-discriminator gamma time-of-flight spectrum, and the detector-response spectra were simultaneously recorded for the prompt-fission neutrons, transmission through carbon, and shadowbars in a total-cross-section-type measurement. Corrections and associated uncertainties were applied for a large variety of effects which may have been overlooked in many of the previously reported measurements. Preliminary results indicate deviations from a Maxwellian shape toward a Watt-spectrum shape. Agreement is good with the shape differences relative to a Maxwellian from the recent theoretical calculation by Madland and Nix, however, a lower average energy was found.

Book Neutron Generators for Analytical Purposes

Download or read book Neutron Generators for Analytical Purposes written by International Atomic Energy Agency and published by IAEA Radiation Technology Repo. This book was released on 2012 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication addresses recent developments in neutron generator (NG) technology. It presents information on compact instruments with high neutron yield to be used for neutron activation analysis (NAA) and prompt gamma neutron activation analysis in combination with high count rate spectrometers. Traditional NGs have been shown to be effective for applications including borehole logging, homeland security, nuclear medicine and the on-line analysis of aluminium, coal and cement. Pulsed fast thermal neutron analysis, as well as tagged and timed neutron analysis, are additional techniques which can be applied using NG. Furthermore, NG can effectively be used for elemental analysis and is also effective for analysis of hidden materials by neutron radiography. Useful guidelines for developing NG based research laboratories are also provided in this publication.
