Book Managing Social Service Staff for Excellence

Download or read book Managing Social Service Staff for Excellence written by Nancy Summers and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-02-17 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An essential guide for those charged with supervision of nonclinical staffin programs, agencies, and units within social service organizations "As someone who has worked in social service agencies, consulted with hundreds of them, and who teaches social service professionals, Ms. Summers knows the issues faced by agencies firsthand. From this experience she has compiled a thoughtful and well-organized text that identifies the principles of effective supervision." —Samuel Knapp, EdD Director of Professional Affairs, Pennsylvania Psychological Association From the Foreword The care of patients and clients of social service agencies is increasingly being performed by paraprofessionals or professionals with little experience. While there are many books written about giving quality clinical supervision, there is very little on supervising the least experienced frontline nonclinical and clinical staff to teach and promote positive and effective interaction with clients, and provide staff support and training that elevates quality care, improves job satisfaction, and minimizes staff turnover. Based on author Nancy Summers' many years of working with troubled social service agencies, Managing Social Service Staff for Excellence: Five Keys to Exceptional Supervision fills this need and offers numerous ideas for securing the best care for those served by social service agencies. Common problems faced by agencies are examined with regard to employee behavior and wellness, including staff teamwork, how to build healthy staff/client relationships, and the identification and prevention of routine disrespect of clients and their needs. Diagnostic techniques are presented for identifying these problems, as well as remedies and prevention programs that can be put in place without great expense. Filled with interviews and numerous case examples, Managing Social Service Staff for Excellence offers a step-by-step process for: creating good preventive measures to counteract negative practices that can occur; developing robust commitment and enthusiasm; and getting back on the right track after unfortunate incidents have taken place.

Book Handbook of Research on Complexities Management and Governance in Healthcare

Download or read book Handbook of Research on Complexities Management and Governance in Healthcare written by Comite, Ubaldo and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2022-10-14 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the years, the complexity of health systems has grown due to the continuous and constant introduction of new technologies—process, production, and organizational—which have increased the number of stakeholders involved, creating new relationships and new channels through which the various subjects interact. It is necessary to highlight the critical issues and opportunities relating to the innovation of the organization and governance of health services as well as the complementarity of management and leadership. The new health needs require a Copernican revolution in the organization of services: not only offering individual services but also effective permanent care of the patient within institutional and professional assistance networks and effective, efficient, and appropriate pathways. This requires that on an organizational and managerial level, the internal relationships between the branches of the healthcare companies must be reviewed and closer relationships built with the managing bodies of the social and welfare services. The Handbook of Research on Complexities, Management, and Governance in Healthcare proceeds with a reasoned reconstruction of healthcare issues through the problems connected to the complexities, management, and governance in healthcare in light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic. It discusses both the ethical side of health and the economic, organizational, and legal content. Covering topics such as healthcare innovation, taxation for public health, and waste disposal, this major reference work is a comprehensive resource for healthcare administration, directors, executive boards, lawyers, sociologists, government officials and policymakers, students and faculty of higher education, libraries, researchers, and academicians.

Book Critical Care Nurses Perceived Leadership Practices Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction

Download or read book Critical Care Nurses Perceived Leadership Practices Organizational Commitment and Job Satisfaction written by Ngozi I. Moneke and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-12-28 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My writing of this book has evolved over the past thirty-six years of professional nursing practice. These were my first efforts as an author, which were published in 2013: Promoting a Culture of Safety: Preventing Central Line Infections in Weill Cornell Medical Center, which used a performance improvement process to lower the rate at which critically ill patients in cardiac care developed central line infections, and Factors Influencing Critical Nurses' Perception of their Overall Job Satisfaction: An Empirical Study, which used a correctional approach and was statistically analyzed to determine the perception of critical-care nurses of their manager's leadership style and its effect on their job satisfaction. Having been on the receiving end of leadership behaviors gave me a firsthand opportunity to observe these diverse nurse leaders at both extremes of the spectrumfrom laissez-faire leadership style to dictatorial leadership style and everything in between. Each encounter has enriched my life immeasurably. My personal and professional experiences, as well as the knowledge I gained from completing my dissertation, all compelled me to write this bookto share with novice managers and those aspiring for a leadership role an awareness and provide them with some valuable information needed as they forge their career paths into a leadership role, knowing that one of the keys to effective leadership is the ability to stay intellectually curious and committed to learning with the understanding that new knowledge can come from variety of sources and to make it a point of duty to be always on a lookout for new knowledge.

Recommended for teaching and learning as well as pedagogical courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. It is a must have and a must read in a world of “pseudo factum knowledge” where social and human oriented professions and scientific disciplines such as nursing are getting little attention. The depth of the background for this study, and the intimate self-reflection Dr Arunasalam provides for this monograph greatly enhances the quality of the study. This book is an insightful exploration of an example of transnational higher education which identified some key questions that need to be asked about such programmes. Download or read book The Future of Nursing written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-02-08 with total page 700 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Future of Nursing explores how nurses' roles, responsibilities, and education should change significantly to meet the increased demand for care that will be created by health care reform and to advance improvements in America's increasingly complex health system. At more than 3 million in number, nurses make up the single largest segment of the health care work force. They also spend the greatest amount of time in delivering patient care as a profession. Nurses therefore have valuable insights and unique abilities to contribute as partners with other health care professionals in improving the quality and safety of care as envisioned in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) enacted this year. Nurses should be fully engaged with other health professionals and assume leadership roles in redesigning care in the United States. To ensure its members are well-prepared, the profession should institute residency training for nurses, increase the percentage of nurses who attain a bachelor's degree to 80 percent by 2020, and double the number who pursue doctorates. Furthermore, regulatory and institutional obstacles-including limits on nurses' scope of practice-should be removed so that the health system can reap the full benefit of nurses' training, skills, and knowledge in patient care. In this book, the Institute of Medicine makes recommendations for an action-oriented blueprint for the future of nursing.
