Book The Reconstruction of Education

Download or read book The Reconstruction of Education written by Judith D. Chapman and published by Burns & Oates. This book was released on 1996 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reports on a comparative study of education policy in Australia, Sweden, the UK, and the US, which vary significantly in their approaches to governing education. The central objectives are to analyze and compare the particular balance that each of the four countries has struck between centralization and decentralization and the consequences of that balance for quality, equality, and control in the provision of schooling. Among the perspectives are forms of decentralization and their implications, the politics of choice and market-oriented school reform, and the liberal paradox. Book Something Borrowed Something Blue Part Two

Download or read book Something Borrowed Something Blue Part Two written by David Finegold and published by Symposium Books Ltd. This book was released on 1993-01-01 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A distinct pattern emerged in the British education and training reform process in the latter half of the 1980s. A government minister or a team of policy experts paid a brief study visit to the United States; a short time later a new initiative was announced which bore a close resemblance to a US programme. More recently, the flow of policy ideas across the Atlantic appears to have reversed direction. This book develops a three-tiered approach to the analysis of policy borrowing. The first section draws on a number of different literatures relevant to this area to create an analytical framework for the study of policy borrowing. Section Two examines the specific context in which these borrowing episodes occurred, asking: ‘Why did Britain look to America for policy inspiration in the latter half of the 1980s?’ The final section examines individual cases of policy borrowing at the local and national levels, attempting to distill lessons about the borrowing process.

Book excerpt: The contributors provided in this book shed light on and initiate debates about important policy issues associated with education reform and improvement. The authors do this by linking conceptual frameworks to past research, analyzing these challenges, and speculating about the contours of future research and school practice. Centering on policy research-based examinations of the future in public education in the United States, this book examines policy issues as they relate to public education governance, finance, curriculum development and community relations. At a conceptual level, the volume explores along several dimensions whether or not public education should exist in its current form, and what is the connection between future configurations of public education, policy development and the global economy,
