Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Global Innovation Index 2023 (GII) takes the pulse of innovation against a background of an economic and geopolitical environment fraught with uncertainty. Tracking the most recent global innovation trends, the GII finds that – despite a climate of disquiet and a decline in risk capital investment – opportunities abound as a result of the incipient Digital Age and Deep Science innovation waves. At its core, the GII 2023 reveals who is leading in global innovation, ranking the innovation performance of 132 economies and highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. In addition, it identifies the world’s top 100 science and technology clusters. The GII is a “tool for action” regarding innovation policy. Governments around the world have used the GII to benchmark innovation performance, perfect innovation metrics and, ultimately, to shape evidence-based innovation policymaking. In the context of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), since 2019, the GII has been recognized by the United Nations General Assembly to be a benchmark for measuring innovation, including more recently in a post-pandemic environment.

This book was released on 2024-07-17 with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present book Sustainable Use of Biochar - From Basics to Advances compiles detailed information on a thoughtful approach that maximizes biochar’s benefits while minimizing potential environmental and social impacts. To achieve this, it's crucial to start with sustainable sourcing of biomass, ensuring it comes from renewable and responsibly managed sources. During the pyrolysis process, adopting efficient technologies that reduce emissions and energy consumption contributes to sustainability. Quality control measures, such as monitoring biochar’s properties like particle size and nutrient content, ensure its effectiveness in soil improvement and carbon sequestration. Application rates should be tailored to soil types and crop needs, supported by long-term monitoring to assess biochar’s impact on soil health, greenhouse gas emissions, and crop productivity. Integrating biochar with other sustainable agricultural practices and promoting knowledge sharing further enhances its sustainable use, fostering resilience and environmental stewardship in agriculture. This book has information on sustainable agricultural practices, and promoting knowledge sharing further enhances its sustainable use, fostering resilience and environmental stewardship in agriculture. Biochar applications are able to cope with global challenges in soil management, and ecological approaches can restore the damaged ecosystem. The present book will be helpful to researchers, the scientific community, academics, business farmers, and policymakers to overcome various environmental concerns.

Book Exploring the Role of Public Expenditure in Advancing Female Economic Empowerment and Gender Equality

Download or read book Exploring the Role of Public Expenditure in Advancing Female Economic Empowerment and Gender Equality written by Charla Britt and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2024-05-24 with total page 93 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper discusses connections between female economic empowerment and government spending. It is an abbreviated overview for non-gender-experts on how fiscal expenditure may support female economic empowerment as an interim step toward advancing gender equality. From this perspective, it offers a preliminary exploration of key factors and indicators associated with gender-differentiated impacts in each of five main categories of public spending (education, health, capital expenditure, government employment and compensation, and social protection and labor market programs). It examines and proposes indices within each category that can be used to identify and measure related gender gaps and suggests associations and connections between those indices, public spending, and other available proxy measurements with some benchmarking potential which is summarized at the end of each category in a Gender Lens Matrix for ease of reference. The paper draws on an extensive literature review and examination of publicly available datasets. It also highlights and discusses gaps in data which limit gender analysis. The purpose of the paper is to advance dialogue on the adoption of a gendered approach to government spending, by providing a gender lens that may assist country level assessments and discussions among IMF staff and member country authorites.
