This book was released on 1988-02-11 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The designer of a software system, like the architect of a building, needs to be aware of the construction techniques available and to choose the ones that are the most appropriate. This book provides the implementer of software systems with a guide to 25 different techniques for the complete development processes, from system definition through design and into production. The techniques are described against a common background of the traditional development path, its activities and deliverable items. In addition the concepts of metrics and indicators are introduced as tools for both technical and managerial monitoring and control of progress and quality. The book is intended to widen the mental toolkit of system developers and their managers, and will also introduce students of computer science to the practical side of software development. With its wide-ranging treatment of the techniques available and the practical guidance it offers, it will prove an important and valuable work.

Book excerpt: Inspired by the "Elements of Style" by Strunk and White--in that the authors address those COBOL programmers who similarly value rigor, conciseness, and clarity when writing carefully constructed, readable programs. The proverbs are a set of simple guidelines, as an easier way to learn good programming. While rules of style do restrict the programmer, they also enable programmers to focus creativity on the deeper issues in programming. This book is designed as a guide to better COBOL programming, especially for those programmers who have an interest in improving software quality.

Book COMPUTER PROGRAMMING IN FORTRAN 77

Download or read book COMPUTER PROGRAMMING IN FORTRAN 77 written by V. RAJARAMAN and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a revised and enlarged version of the author's book which received wide acclamations in its earlier three editions. It provides a lucid and in-depth introduction to the programming language Fortran 77 which is widely used by scientists and engineers. The fourth edition is completely revised chapterwise and also minor corrections incorporated. A new standard for Fortran called Fortran 90 was introduced in early 90s and compilers for this version of Fortran were sold in early 1995 by computer vendors. All Fortran 77 programs will run without change with Fortran 90 compilers; however some aspects of Fortran 77 have been declared obsolete and will not run on future Fortran compilers_these are explained in this revised edition. An appendix consolidates these features. Fortran 90 is introduced in a new chapter which summarises all its features.

Book Digital Visual Fortran Programmer s Guide

Download or read book Digital Visual Fortran Programmer s Guide written by Michael Etzel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-04-13 with total page 780 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Digital Visual Fortran is the latest version of a major programming language tool used by scientists and engineers. Written by key technical writers from the Digital Visual Fortran product team, Digital Visual Fortran Programmer's Guide presents in printed form the critical portions of the official programmer's guide, previously only available online. The result is the authoritative book on Digital Visual Fortran's features and how to use them to create effective applications. Digital Visual Fortran is the language of choice for computation-intensive scientific and engineering applications, financial applications, and other programs. Digital recently acquired Fortran technology and rights from Microsoft that allows them to use the Microsoft Developer Studio Integrated Development Environment, which is featured in Microsoft's Visual C++ and Visual Basic. The result is that Digital Visual Fortran is much easier to use and looks and works much like Microsoft's industry-leading programming products for other market segments. The official programmer's guide to Digital Visual Fortran for Version 6.0A Authors are experts from the Digital Visual Fortran product group New Digital Fortran version include Microsoft interface and object technologies

Book Parallel Computations

Download or read book Parallel Computations written by Garry Rodrigue and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-10 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parallel Computations focuses on parallel computation, with emphasis on algorithms used in a variety of numerical and physical applications and for many different types of parallel computers. Topics covered range from vectorization of fast Fourier transforms (FFTs) and of the incomplete Cholesky conjugate gradient (ICCG) algorithm on the Cray-1 to calculation of table lookups and piecewise functions. Single tridiagonal linear systems and vectorized computation of reactive flow are also discussed. Comprised of 13 chapters, this volume begins by classifying parallel computers and describing techniques for performing matrix operations on them. The reader is then introduced to FFTs and the tridiagonal linear system as well as the ICCG method. Different versions of the conjugate gradient method for solving the time-dependent diffusion equation are considered. Subsequent chapters deal with two- and three-dimensional fluid flow calculations, paying particular attention to the principal issues in designing efficient numerical methods for hydrodynamic calculations; the decisions that a numerical modeler must make to optimize chemically reactive flow simulations; and how to handle disk-to-core data transfer and storage allocation for the solution of the implicit equations for three-dimensional flows. The book also describes the time-split finite difference scheme for solving the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation for flows through slotted nozzles. Finally, the large-scale stimulation of plasmas, as carried out on a small computer with an array processor, is discussed. This monograph should be of interest to specialists in computer science.

Book Object Oriented Programming via Fortran 90 95

Download or read book Object Oriented Programming via Fortran 90 95 written by Ed Akin and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2003-01-13 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Writing technical applications in a modern object-oriented approach, using Fortran 90 or 95, can be problematic. This book teaches how to employ the principles of object-oriented programming to produce clear, highly efficient executable codes (rather than focusing on the traditional procedural abilities of Fortran). This text is an excellent harbinger to all the features of the finalized, fully object-oriented Fortran 200X. In addition to covering the OOP methodologies, the basic foundation of the language and solid programming skills are reviewed, making the book valuable also as a good migration tool for experienced Fortran programmers that want to smoothly pick up the OOP paradigm. The author highlights common themes by using comparisons with Matlab® and C++ and uses numerous cross-referenced examples to convey all concepts quickly and clearly. Complete code for the examples is included on the book's web site.
