Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Agglomeration is integral to the processes of modification of powders, production of composites and creation of new materials which are required in pharmaceuticals, foods, chemicals, fertilizers and agrochemicals, minerals, ceramics, metallurgy and all material producing industries. The binding mechanisms and the particle behavior as well as the characteristics of the processes and the resulting agglomerates are the same whether they are occuring in the 'ultra-clean' pharmaceutical or food industries or in 'dirty' minerals or waste processing plants. The book introduces the interdisciplinary approach to the development of new concepts and the solution of problems. It is a complete and up-to-date practical guide describing the various agglomeration phenomena and industrial techniques for size enlargement. In addition to introducing the properties of agglomerates and the characteristics of the different methods, descriptions of the machinery and discussions of specific equipment features are the main topics. The detailed evaluation of the subject is based on the authors experience as student, researcher, teacher, developer, designer, vendor, and user as well as expert and consultant in the field of agglomeration, its technologies and products, and is complemented by the know-how of colleagues who are active in specific areas and information from vendors. It is intended for everybody working in industries that process and handle particulate solids as it aims to help understand and control unwanted agglomeration as well as use, improve, and develop methods for the beneficial size enlargement by agglomeration.

This book was released on 2024 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Communications et signalisations cellulaires 4e ed written by COMBARNOUS Yves and published by Lavoisier. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Many of these chemical substances have been found to interfere with the endocrine system and modulate its function. This book not only overviews the effects of endocrine/disrupting substances on human health, but also addresses the regulatory problems from the point of view of international organisations, including the WHO, the EU, and the European Chlorine Industry. This volume contains the proceedings of a workshop held at the International Hippocrates Foundation on Kos Island, Greece, in September 1999. The workshop was part of the activities of the ASPIS project, which aims at raising awareness of environmental health impacts among multidisciplinary groups. The contributions to this volume are the result of the interaction of participants at the workshop. As such, it addresses the issue of endocrine disrupters from many different points of view and allows the subject to be approached by a multidisciplinary readership, including: decision makers, medical doctors, environmental experts, post/and undergraduate students, lawyers, engineers, and journalists.

Book Toxic Injustice

Download or read book Toxic Injustice written by Susanna Rankin Bohme and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2015 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pesticide dibromochloropropane, known as DBCP, was developed by the chemical companies Dow and Shell in the 1950s to target wormlike, soil-dwelling creatures called nematodes. Despite signs that the chemical was dangerous, it was widely used in U.S. agriculture and on Chiquita and Dole banana plantations in Central America. In the late 1970s, DBCP was linked to male sterility, but an uneven regulatory process left many workers—especially on Dole’s banana farms—exposed for years after health risks were known. Susanna Rankin Bohme tells an intriguing, multilayered history that spans fifty years, highlighting the transnational reach of corporations and social justice movements. Toxic Injustice links health inequalities and worker struggles as it charts how people excluded from workplace and legal protections have found ways to challenge power structures and seek justice from states and transnational corporations alike.

Book Powerless Science

Download or read book Powerless Science written by Soraya Boudia and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In spite of decades of research on toxicants, along with the growing role of scientific expertise in public policy and the unprecedented rise in the number of national and international institutions dealing with environmental health issues, problems surrounding contaminants and their effects on health have never appeared so important, sometimes to the point of appearing insurmountable. This calls for a reconsideration of the roles of scientific knowledge and expertise in the definition and management of toxic issues, which this book seeks to do. It looks at complex historical, social, and political dynamics, made up of public controversies, environmental and health crises, economic interests, and political responses, and demonstrates how and to what extent scientific knowledge about toxicants has been caught between scientific, economic, and political imperatives. Soraya Boudia is Professor of Science, Technology, and Innovation Studies at the University of Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée. Her scholarly work focuses on the transnational government of technological and health environmental risks. She has co-edited a special issue of History and Technology, "Risk and risk Society in Historical Perspective" (2007), and Toxicants, Health and Regulations Since 1945 (Pickering & Chatto, 2013), both with Nathalie Jas.
