This book was released on 2017 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interdisciplinary workshop STOCHASTIC PROCESSES WITH APPLICATIONS IN THE NATURAL SCIENCES was held in Bogotá, at Universidad de los Andes from December 5 to December 9, 2016. It brought together researchers from Colombia, Germany, France, Italy, Ukraine, who communicated recent progress in the mathematical research related to stochastic processes with application in biophysics. The present volume collects three of the four courses held at this meeting by Angelo Valleriani, Sylvie Rœlly and Alexei Kulik. A particular aim of this collection is to inspire young scientists in setting up research goals within the wide scope of fields represented in this volume.

Book Quantum Interacting Particle Systems

Download or read book Quantum Interacting Particle Systems written by Luigi Accardi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-07-19 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of extending ideas and results on the dynamics of infinite classical lattice systems to the quantum domain naturally arises in different branches of physics (nonequilibrium statistical mechanics, quantum optics, solid state, …) and new momentum from the development of quantum computer and quantum neural networks (which are in fact interacting arrays of binary systems) has been found. The stochastic limit of quantum theory allowed to deduce, as limits of the usual Hamiltonian systems, a new class of quantum stochastic flows which, when restricted to an appropriate Abelian subalgebra, produces precisely those interacting particle systems studied in classical statistical mechanics. Moreover, in many interesting cases, the underlying classical process “drives” the quantum one, at least as far as ergodicity or convergence to equilibrium are concerned. Thus many deep results concerning classical systems can be directly applied to carry information on the corresponding quantum system. The thermodynamic limit itself is obtained thanks to a technique (the four-semigroup method, new even in the classical case) which reduces the infinitesimal structure of a stochastic flow to that of four semigroups canonically associated to it (Chap. 1).Simple and effective methods to analyze qualitatively the ergodic behavior of quantum Markov semigroups are discussed in Chap. 2.Powerful estimates used to control the infinite volume limit, ergodic behavior and the spectral gap (Gaussian, exponential and hypercontractive bounds, classical and quantum logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, …) are discussed in Chap. 3.

Book High Dimensional Probability

Download or read book High Dimensional Probability written by Ernst Eberlein and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is high dimensional probability? Under this broad name we collect topics with a common philosophy, where the idea of high dimension plays a key role, either in the problem or in the methods by which it is approached. Let us give a specific example that can be immediately understood, that of Gaussian processes. Roughly speaking, before 1970, the Gaussian processes that were studied were indexed by a subset of Euclidean space, mostly with dimension at most three. Assuming some regularity on the covariance, one tried to take advantage of the structure of the index set. Around 1970 it was understood, in particular by Dudley, Feldman, Gross, and Segal that a more abstract and intrinsic point of view was much more fruitful. The index set was no longer considered as a subset of Euclidean space, but simply as a metric space with the metric canonically induced by the process. This shift in perspective subsequently lead to a considerable clarification of many aspects of Gaussian process theory, and also to its applications in other settings.

Book Meteorology And Environmental Sciences Proceedings Of The Course On Physical Climatology And Meteorology For Environmental Application

Download or read book Meteorology And Environmental Sciences Proceedings Of The Course On Physical Climatology And Meteorology For Environmental Application written by Rodolfo Guzzi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1990-11-29 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 19 March 1993, Raymond L. Orbach was inaugurated as the eighth Chancellor of the University of California, Riverside. In connection with this occasion, a two-day scientific symposium was held. Invited and contributed papers were presented on subjects related to 2 vital areas of condensed-matter physics in which Chancellor Orbach has made seminal contributions: the effects of disorder on magnetic behavior, and the theory of high-temperature superconductivity. The papers in this book, many of which are by outstanding contributors to these important fields, give an up-to-date overview of recent progress.
