This book was released on 2019-01-08 with total page 805 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second of two comprehensive reference texts on differential equations continues coverage of the essential material students they are likely to encounter in solving engineering and mechanics problems across the field - alongside a preliminary volume on theory. This book covers a very broad range of problems, including beams and columns, plates, shells, structural dynamics, catenary and cable suspension bridge, nonlinear buckling, transports and waves in fluids, geophysical fluid flows, nonlinear waves and solitons, Maxwell equations, Schrodinger equations, celestial mechanics and fracture mechanics and dynamics. The focus is on the mathematical technique for solving the differential equations involved. All readers who are concerned with and interested in engineering mechanics problems, climate change, and nanotechnology will find topics covered in this book providing valuable information and mathematics background for their multi-disciplinary research and education.

    Book Details:
  • Author : John E. Hobbs
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2016-04-19
  • ISBN : 1483101541
  • Pages : 223 pages

Download or read book Applied Climatology written by John E. Hobbs and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-04-19 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Climatology: A Study of Atmospheric Resources focuses on the management of the atmosphere as a resource. The book first discusses the atmospheric system, including atmospheric circulation and energy in the system. The text then examines the variable atmosphere. Scale variability, climatic change, air pollution, and hazards and extremes are considered. The book also focuses on weather and human behavior. Human biometeorology and climatic determinism; climate and comfort; weather and society; and climate and health are discussed. The text also describes the impacts of extreme events, including tropical cyclones, local storms, cumulative hazards, and climatic change and world food production. The selection also focuses on the effects of weather on daily human activities, including leisure and recreation, construction industry, retailing, utilities, and agriculture. The text then highlights weather forecasting and management of atmospheric resources. Types and methods of forecasting; accuracy and reliability of forecasts; dissemination and application of weather forecasts; weather and climate modification; and role of meteorologists are discussed. The book is a good source of information for readers interested to study the atmosphere as a resource.

Book Wind Loading of Structures

Download or read book Wind Loading of Structures written by John D. Holmes and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2007-04-17 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bridging the gap between wind and structural engineering, Wind Loading of Structures demonstrates the application of wind engineering principles to ensure maximum safety in a variety of structures. This book will assist the practising engineer in understanding the principles of wind engineering, and provide guidance on the successful design of structures for wind loading by gales, hurricanes, typhoons, thunderstorm downdrafts and tornados. The principles of meteorology, statistics and probability, aerodynamics and structural dynamics are covered in the first half of the book. The second half describes, qualitatively and quantitatively, the nature of wind loads on all types of structures, including low-rise and tall buildings, large stadium roofs, towers and chimneys, bridges, transmission lines, free-standing walls and roofs, and antennae. Special features include coverage of extreme winds in tropical and sub-tropical climates, wind-tunnel testing techniques, a summary of the wind climates of over sixty countries, and detailed coverage of internal as well as external wind pressures on buildings. A comparison is made of the provisions for wind loads in six major national and international codes and standards. Examples and case studies are given in each chapter that make the book suitable for supporting university graduate courses in wind loading and response.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Non Synoptic Wind Storms

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Non Synoptic Wind Storms written by Horia Hangan and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2021 with total page 645 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Wind storms impact human lives, their built as well as natural habitat. During the last century, society's vulnerability to wind storms has been reduced by enhanced knowledge of their impact and by controlling exposure through better design. However, only two of the wind systems have so far been considered in the design of buildings and structures, i.e., synoptic winds resulting from macroscale weather systems spanning thousands of kilometers, e.g., extratropical storms, and mesoscale tropical storms spanning hundreds of kilometers and traveling fast, e.g., hurricanes/typhoons/cyclones. During the last two decades, enough evidence has surfaced to support that a third type of very localized wind storms, the non-synoptic winds, are the most damaging in some regions of the world. Thus far there are no design provisions established for the codification of these wind storms. Their characterization in terms of climatology, wind field and intensity, frequency and occurrence, as well as their impact on the built environment, is slowly developing. This handbook presents the state-of-the-art of knowledge related to all these features including their risk, insurance issues, and economics. The research in this area is on the one hand more arduous given the reduced scale, the three-dimensionality, and nonstationary aspects of these non-synoptic winds while, at the same time, its understanding and modeling are being aided by the emergence of novel modeling and simulation techniques which are addressed in this handbook. This will serve as a guiding resource for those interested in learning about and contributing to the advancement of the field"--
