Download or read book Composite Sampling written by Ganapati P. Patil and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-25 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sampling consists of selection, acquisition, and quantification of a part of the population. While selection and acquisition apply to physical sampling units of the population, quantification pertains only to the variable of interest, which is a particular characteristic of the sampling units. A sampling procedure is expected to provide a sample that is representative with respect to some specified criteria. Composite sampling, under idealized conditions, incurs no loss of information for estimating the population means. But an important limitation to the method has been the loss of information on individual sample values, such as, the extremely large value. In many of the situations where individual sample values are of interest or concern, composite sampling methods can be suitably modified to retrieve the information on individual sample values that may be lost due to compositing. This book presents statistical solutions to issues that arise in the context of applications of composite sampling.

Download or read book Handbook on in Situ Treatment of Hazardous Waste contaminated Soils written by and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook comprises an update of volume 1 of the 1984 USEPA document entitled "Review of in-place treatment techniques for contaminated surface soils." The purpose of this handbook is the same as that of the original document - to provide state-of-the-art information on in situ treatment technologies for contaminated soils. Like the previous document, this handbook is written for the use of a varied audience with divers technical backgrounds.... An in situ treatment technology is defined as one that can be applied to treat the hazardous constituents of a waste or contaminated environmental medium where they are located and is capable of reducing the risk posed by these contaminants to an acceptable level or completely eliminating that risk. In situ treatment implies that the waste materials are treated without being physically removed from the ground.... The 1984 document consisted of two volumes. Only volume 1 is being updated by this handbook. The reader can refer to volume 2, however, for a still current and comprehensive discussion of the fundamental properties of soil/waste systems.
Download or read book Hazardous Solvent Source Reduction written by Michael S. Callahan and published by McGraw-Hill Companies. This book was released on 1995 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solvents are widely used throughout industry for a range of cleaning activities. Given the large volume of cleaning solvents currently in use, and the regulatory pressures forcing some of these solvents out of the marketplace, industry must reassess its cleaning practices. This book details locating, testing and implementing environmentally preferred cleaning technologies.
