Book Murray Gell mann Selected Papers

Download or read book Murray Gell mann Selected Papers written by Harald Fritzsch and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2010-02-08 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Murray Gell-Mann is one of the leading physicists of the world. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1969 for his work on the classification and symmetries of elementary particles, including the approximate SU(3) symmetry of hadrons. His list of publications is impressive; a number of his papers have become landmarks in physics. In 1953, Gell-Mann introduced the strangeness quantum number, conserved by the strong and electromagnetic interactions but not by the weak interaction. In 1954 he and F E Low proposed what was later called the renormalization group. In 1958 he and R P Feynman wrote an important article on the V-A theory of the weak interaction. In 1961 and 1962 he described his ideas about the SU(3) symmetry of hadrons and its violation, leading to the prediction of the Ω- particle. In 1964 he proposed the quark picture of hadrons. In 1971 he and H Fritzsch proposed the exactly conserved “color” quantum number and in 1972 they discussed what they later called quantum chromodynamics (QCD), the gauge theory of color. These major publications and many others are collected in this volume, providing physicists with easy access to much of Gell-Mann's work. Some of the articles are concerned with his recollections of the history of elementary particle physics in the third quarter of the twentieth century.

Book Internal Spin Structure Of The Nucleon Proceedings Of The Symposium

Download or read book Internal Spin Structure Of The Nucleon Proceedings Of The Symposium written by Vernon W Hughes and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-07-14 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of the internal spin structure of the nucleon has become an unusually active subfield of particle and nuclear physics, together with the relevant technologies. This volume presents up-to-date coverage. All the talks given at the symposium can be found in the volume. In addition, selected articles are reprinted, including two early papers which record initial thinking about the topic, all experimental papers giving data on nucleon spin structure functions determined from polarized lepton-nucleon scattering, and two valuable previously unpublished papers.

Book Dual Resonance Models And Superstrings

Download or read book Dual Resonance Models And Superstrings written by Paul H Frampton and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1986-07-01 with total page 559 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an excellent book on dual model and string theories. This updated issue of the author's book ‘Dual Resonance Models’ has new chapters on string theories added to it. This new volume therefore provides much background on the non-symmetrical aspects as well as modern development in the theory of strong interactions. This is a must for high energy physicists.

Book From Current Algebra to Quantum Chromodynamics

Download or read book From Current Algebra to Quantum Chromodynamics written by Tian Yu Cao and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-10-14 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The advent of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) in the early 1970s was one of the most important events in twentieth-century science. This book examines the conceptual steps that were crucial to the rise of QCD, placing them in historical context against the background of debates that were ongoing between the bootstrap approach and composite modeling, and between mathematical and realistic conceptions of quarks. It explains the origins of QCD in current algebra and its development through high-energy experiments, model-building, mathematical analysis and conceptual synthesis. Addressing a range of complex physical, philosophical and historiographical issues in detail, this book will interest graduate students and researchers in physics and in the history and philosophy of science.
