Download or read book Proceedings of the 5th International Young Geotechnical Engineers Conference written by IOS Press and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2013-08-20 with total page 624 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geotechnical engineers are at work worldwide, contributing to sustainable living and to the creation of safe, economic and pleasant spaces to live, work and relax. With increased pressure on space and resources, particularly in cities, their expertise becomes ever more important. This book presents the proceedings of the 5th iYGEC, International Young Geotechnical Engineers' Conference, held at Marne-la-Vallée, France, from 31 August to 1 September 2013. It is also the second volume in the series Advances in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. The papers included here cover topics such as laboratory and field testing, geology and groundwater, earthworks, soil behavior, constitutive modeling, ground improvement, earthquake, retaining structures, foundations, slope stability, tunnels and observational methods. The iYGEC conference series brings together students and young people at the start of their career in the geotechnical professions to share their experience, and this book will be of interest to all those whose work involves soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. • Pages : 241 pages

Download or read book IUTAM written by Peter Eberhard and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-20 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents extensive information related to the history of IUTAM. The initial chapters focus on IUTAM’s history and selected organizational aspects. Subsequent chapters provide extensive data and statistics, while the closing section showcases photos from all periods of the Union’s history. The history of IUTAM, the International Union on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, began at a conference in 1922 in Innsbruck, Austria, where von Kármán put forward the idea of an international congress including the whole domain of applied mechanics. In 1946 IUTAM was then formally launched in Paris/France. IUTAM has since time organized more than 24 world congresses and 380 symposia, representing all fields of mechanics and highlighting advances by prominent international researchers. The efforts of IUTAM and its about 50 member countries serve to promote the mechanical sciences and the advancement of human society, addressing many key challenges. In this context, IUTAM preserves important traditions while at the same time recognizing new challenges and adapting its structures and processes accordingly. The first edition of this book was published in 1988. This new book now offers an updated and completely revised edition reflecting the substantial developments in the interim.

Book Design and Modeling of Mechanical Systems

Download or read book Design and Modeling of Mechanical Systems written by Mohamed Haddar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-12 with total page 653 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 5th International Congress on Design and Modeling of Mechanical Systems (CMSM) was held in Djerba, Tunisia on March 25-27, 2013 and followed four previous successful editions, which brought together international experts in the fields of design and modeling of mechanical systems, thus contributing to the exchange of information and skills and leading to a considerable progress in research among the participating teams. The fifth edition of the congress (CMSM ́2013), organized by the Unit of Mechanics, Modeling and Manufacturing (U2MP) of the National School of Engineers of Sfax, Tunisia, the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory (MBL) of the National School of Engineers of Monastir, Tunisia and the Mechanics Laboratory of Sousse (LMS) of the National School of Engineers of Sousse, Tunisia, saw a significant increase of the international participation. This edition brought together nearly 300 attendees who exposed their work on the following topics: mechatronics and robotics, dynamics of mechanical systems, fluid structure interaction and vibroacoustics, modeling and analysis of materials and structures, design and manufacturing of mechanical systems. This book is the proceedings of CMSM ́2013 and contains a careful selection of high quality contributions, which were exposed during various sessions of the congress. The original articles presented here provide an overview of recent research advancements accomplished in the field mechanical engineering.

Download or read book The Turbulence Problem written by Michael Eckert and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-05 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On the road toward a history of turbulence, this book focuses on what the actors in this research field have identified as the “turbulence problem”. Turbulent flow rose to prominence as one of the most persistent challenges in science. At different times and in different social and disciplinary settings, the nature of this problem has changed in response to changing research agendas. This book does not seek to provide a comprehensive account, but instead an exemplary exposition on the environments in which problems become the subjects of research agendas, with particular emphasis on the first half of the 20th century.

Book Multiple wheel Heavy Gear Load Pavement Tests

Download or read book Multiple wheel Heavy Gear Load Pavement Tests written by and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flexible and rigid pavements were constructed and tested to obtain data on pavement and soil behavior under large aircraft loadings for use in developing criteria for evaluating and designing airfield pavements subjected to multiple-wheel heavy gear loads (WMHGL). The test sections incorporated instrumentation systems designed to determine the response of the pavement structures to static, dynamic (slowly moving), and vibratory loads and to traffic by full prototype loadings of a 12-wheel assembly (one main gear of a C-5A aircraft), a twin-tandem assembly (one twin-tandem component of the Boeing 747 assembly), and a single wheel. Analysis of static load response data from the flexible pavement instrumentation program resulted in the establishment of maximum elastic deflection and vertical elastic stress versus depth curves. Comparisons showed that the same relationships were true for static and dynamic load tests, as well as for speed tests. The findings for the rigid pavement test section indicated that the Westergaard algorithm can be used for reasonable predictio of pavement response to test loadings. The data from the instrumentation program and the traffic tests were used in the analysis of the flexible and rigid pavement test sections. The analysis resulted in a modification of the basic flexible pavement CBR design method. (Author).
