Book Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics

Download or read book Parallel Processing and Applied Mathematics written by Roman Wyrzykowski and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-04-14 with total page 1193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is our pleasure to provide you with the volume containing the proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Parallel Processing and Applied Mathe- tics, which was held in Cz ̧ estochowa, a Polish city famous for its Jasna Gora Monastery, on September 7–10, 2003. The ?rst PPAM conference was held in 1994 and was organized by the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Cz ̧ estochowa University of Technology in its hometown. The main idea behind the event was to provide a forum for researchers involved in applied and computational mathematics and parallel computing to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere. Conference organizers hoped that this arrangement would result in cross-pollination and lead to successful research collaborations. In - dition, they hoped that the initially mostly Polish conference would grow into an international event. The fact that these assumptions were correct was proven by the growth of the event. While the ?rst conference consisted of 41 presen- tions, the conference reached 150 participants in Na l ̧ ecz ́ ow in 2001. In this way the PPAM conference has become one of the premiere Polish conferences, and de?nitely the most important one in the area of parallel/distributed computing andappliedmathematics. This year’s meeting gathered almost 200 participants from 32 countries. A strict refereeing process resulted in the acceptance of approximately 150 cont- buted presentations, while the rejection rate was approximately 33%.

The major themes can be divided into the broad categories of hardware, software, algorithms and applications for p- allel computing. The objective of Euro-Par is to provide a forum within which to promote the development of parallel computing both as an industrial te- nique and an academic discipline, extending the frontier of both the state of the art and the state of the practice. This is particularly important at a time when parallel computing is undergoing strong and sustained development and experiencing real industrial take-up. The main audience for and participants in Euro-Parareseenasresearchersinacademicdepartments,governmentlabora- ries and industrial organisations. Euro-Par’s objective is to become the primary choice of such professionals for the presentation of new results in their specic areas. Euro-Par is also interested in applications which demonstrate the e - tiveness of the main Euro-Par themes. There is now a permanent Web site for the series http://brahms. fmi. uni-passau. de/cl/europar where the history of the conference is described. Euro-Par is now sponsored by the Association of Computer Machinery and the International Federation of Information Processing. Euro-Par’99 The format of Euro-Par’99follows that of the past four conferences and consists of a number of topics eachindividually monitored by a committee of four. There were originally 23 topics for this year’s conference. The call for papers attracted 343 submissions of which 188 were accepted. Of the papers accepted, 4 were judged as distinguished, 111 as regular and 73 as short papers.

Book Parallel Computing Advances And Current Issues Proceedings Of The International Conference Parco2001

Download or read book Parallel Computing Advances And Current Issues Proceedings Of The International Conference Parco2001 written by Gerhard R Joubert and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002-07-30 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The near future will see the increased use of parallel computing technologies at all levels of mainstream computing. Computer hardware increasingly employs parallel techniques to improve computing power for the solution of large scale and computer intensive applications. Cluster and grid technologies make possible high speed computing facilities at vastly reduced costs. These developments can be expected to result in the extended use of all types of parallel computers in virtually all areas of human endeavour. Computer intensive problems in emerging areas such as financial modelling, data mining and multimedia systems, in addition to traditional application areas of parallel computing such as scientific computing and simulation, will lead to further progress. Parallel computing as a field of scientific research and development has already become one of the fundamental computing technologies. This book gives an overview of new developments in parallel computing at the start of the 21st century, as well as a perspective on future developments.

Book Security Modeling and Analysis of Mobile Agent Systems

Download or read book Security Modeling and Analysis of Mobile Agent Systems written by Lu Ma and published by Imperial College Press. This book was released on 2006 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A mobile agent system could be attacked by malicious agents, platforms and third parties. Mobile agents simply offer greater opportunities for abuse and misuse, which broadens the scale of threats significantly. In addition, since mobile agents have some unique characteristics such as their mobility, security problems have become more complicated in these systems. These security problems have become a bottleneck in the development and maintenance of mobile agent systems, especially in security sensitive applications such as electronic commerce. This book introduces the concept and structure of mobile agent systems and discusses various attacks and countermeasures. The emphasis is on the formal modeling and analysis of secure mobile agent systems and their applications. Sample Chapter(s). Chapter 1: Introduction (97 KB). Contents: Mobile Agent System; Attacks and Countermeasures of Software System Security; Security Issues in a Mobile Agent System; A New Formal Model OCo Extended Elementary Object System (EEOS); A Formal Framework of a Generic Secure Mobile Agent System Based on EEOS; Translating the EEOS Model to Colored Petri Net Model; Simulation and Analysis of the Extended Elementary Object System Model of a Secure Mobile Agent System; A Case Study in Electronic Commerce; A Case Study in E-Auction System. Readership: Computer scientists, researchers, software engineers, programmers and graduate students in software engineering, networking and automated systems."

Book Energy Efficient High Performance Computing

Download or read book Energy Efficient High Performance Computing written by James H. Laros III and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-09-04 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, the unique power measurement capabilities of the Cray XT architecture were exploited to gain an understanding of power and energy use, and the effects of tuning both CPU and network bandwidth. Modifications were made to deterministically halt cores when idle. Additionally, capabilities were added to alter operating P-state. At the application level, an understanding of the power requirements of a range of important DOE/NNSA production scientific computing applications running at large scale is gained by simultaneously collecting current and voltage measurements on the hosting nodes. The effects of both CPU and network bandwidth tuning are examined, and energy savings opportunities without impact on run-time performance are demonstrated. This research suggests that next-generation large-scale platforms should not only approach CPU frequency scaling differently, but could also benefit from the capability to tune other platform components to achieve more energy-efficient performance.
