Book Air Emissions from Animal Feeding Operations

Download or read book Air Emissions from Animal Feeding Operations written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2003-04-07 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air Emissions from Animal Feeding Operations: Current Knowledge, Future Needs discusses the need for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to implement a new method for estimating the amount of ammonia, nitrous oxide, methane, and other pollutants emitted from livestock and poultry farms, and for determining how these emissions are dispersed in the atmosphere. The committee calls for the EPA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to establish a joint council to coordinate and oversee short - and long-term research to estimate emissions from animal feeding operations accurately and to develop mitigation strategies. Their recommendation was for the joint council to focus its efforts first on those pollutants that pose the greatest risk to the environment and public health.

Book The Chemistry of Environmental Tobacco Smoke

Download or read book The Chemistry of Environmental Tobacco Smoke written by Roger A. Jenkins and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2000-03-30 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered the definitive resource in its field, The Chemistry of Environmental Tobacco Smoke: Composition and Measurement compiles observations on the properties of Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS) and on the concentrations of its constituents in indoor air. It focuses on common natural indoor environments and environments associated with chronic exposure. The authors -- all renowned experts -- stress both measurement methods and the competing sources of indoor air contaminants commonly attributed to ETS. For the second edition, each chapter has been updated to reflect new studies and up-to-date information.

Book excerpt: A copublication of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists and Lewis Publishers, this series continues the former Annuals of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists. This series is designed to present state-of-the-art information on research and practical applications of science in the field of occupational health. Bokos are normally the proceedings of an important symposium or conference sponsored by the ACGIH or other leading professional organization in, or allied with, the occupational health field. Content deals with subject of current interest. Books in the Industrial Hygiene Science Series should become valued additions to the international scientific literature. Published volumes in this series are: Microcomputer Applications in Occupational Health and Safety Ergonomic Interventions to Prevent Musculoskeletal Injuries in Industry Advances in Air Sampling.

Book Gas and Particle Phase Measurements of Atmospheric Organic Compounds

Download or read book Gas and Particle Phase Measurements of Atmospheric Organic Compounds written by Douglas A. Lane and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-17 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is becoming increasingly important to understand how and why semivolatile atmospheric pollutants partition between gas phase and particulate matter in the atmosphere. In this text the world's leading researchers in the field explain the significance of gas/particle ratios; physical and chemical parameters determining how semivolatiles partition in the atmosphere; how gas/particle ratio measurements are made; what artefacts occur during sampling; and novel new techniques and instruments for obtaining artefact-free results. Intended to be a reference book and a guide for those who study the gas/particle ratios of semivolatile atmospheric compounds. This book will be of interest to beginners in the field as well as those who have been involved in the field for many years and would like, in a single reference text, a comprehensive compendium of what is known about the theory and practice of gas/particle phase measurements.

Book Human Exposure Assessment for Airborne Pollutants

Download or read book Human Exposure Assessment for Airborne Pollutants written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1991-02-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most people in the United States spend far more time indoors than outdoors. Yet, many air pollution regulations and risk assessments focus on outdoor air. These often overlook contact with harmful contaminants that may be at their most dangerous concentrations indoors. A new book from the National Research Council explores the need for strategies to address indoor and outdoor exposures and examines the methods and tools available for finding out where and when significant exposures occur. The volume includes: A conceptual framework and common terminology that investigators from different disciplines can use to make more accurate assessments of human exposure to airborne contaminants. An update of important developments in assessing exposure to airborne contaminants: ambient air sampling and physical chemical measurements, biological markers, questionnaires, time-activity diaries, and modeling. A series of examples of how exposure assessments have been applied-properly and improperly-to public health issues and how the committee's suggested framework can be brought into practice. This volume will provide important insights to improve risk assessment, risk management, pollution control, and regulatory programs.
