The second volume contains workshop papers related to various computational research areas, e.g.: computer graphics and geometric modeling, simulation of multiphysics multiscale systems, computational chemistry and its applications, computational finance and business intelligence, physical, biological and social networks, geocomputation, and teaching computational science. The third volume is mostly related to computer science topics such as bioinformatics' challenges to computer science, tools for program development and analysis in computational science, software engineering for large-scale computing, collaborative and cooperative environments, applications of workflows in computational science, as well as intelligent agents and evolvable systems.

Book Holonic and Multi Agent Systems for Manufacturing

Download or read book Holonic and Multi Agent Systems for Manufacturing written by Vladimir Marik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2005-08-29 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The challenge faced in today’s manufacturing and business environments is the question of how to satisfy increasingly stringent customer requirements while managing growing system complexity. For example, customers expect high-quality, customizable, low-cost products that can be delivered quickly. The systems that deliver these expectations are by nature distributed, concurrent, and stochastic, and, as a result, increasingly difficult to manage. Unfortunately, the traditional hierarchical, strictly centralized approach to control used in these domains is characteristically inflexible, fragile, and difficult to maintain. These shortcomings have led to the development of a new class of manufacturing and supply-chain decision-making approaches in recent years. Solutions based on these approaches usually explore a set of highly distributed decision-making units that are capable of autonomous operations while cooperating interactively to resolve larger problems. The units, referred to as agents in classical computer science and software engineering, or holons if physically integrated with the manufacturing hardware, interact by exchanging information. These units are motivated by arriving at local solutions as well as collaborating and sharing resources and goals in solving the overall problem in question collectively.

Download or read book Soft Computing Models in Industrial and Environmental Applications 5th International Workshop SOCO 2010 written by Paulo Novais and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-05-29 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of Advances in Intelligent and Soft Computing contains accepted - pers presented at SOCO 2010 held in the beautiful and historic city of Guimarães, Portugal, June 2010. The global purpose of SOCO conferences has been to provide a broad and - terdisciplinary forum for soft computing and associated paradigms, which are playing increasingly important roles in an important number of industrial and - vironmental applications fields. Soft computing represents a collection or set of computational techniques in machine learning, computer science and some engineering disciplines, which - vestigate, simulate and analyze very complex issues and phenomena. This wo- shop is mainly focused on its industrial and environmental applications. th SOCO 2010 is the 5 International Workshop on Soft Computing Models in Industrial Applications and provides interesting opportunities to present and d- cuss the latest theoretical advances and real world applications in this multidis- plinary research field. This volume presents the papers accepted for the 2010 edition, both for the main event and the Special Sessions. SOCO 2010 Special Sessions are a very u- ful tool in order to complement the regular program with new or emerging topics of particular interest to the participating community. Special Sessions that emp- size on multi-disciplinary and transversal aspects, as well as cutting-edge topics were especially encouraged and welcome. SOCO 2010 included a total of 3 Special Sessions: Ensemble Learning and - formation Fusion for Industrial Applications; Soft Computing for Service M- agement; Hybrid Intelligent Systems and Applications.

Book User Interface Management and Design

Download or read book User Interface Management and Design written by David A. Duce and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a record of the Workshop on User Interface Management Systems and Environments held at INESC, Lisbon, Portugal, between 4 and 6 June 1990. The main impetus for the workshop came from the Graphics and Interaction in ESPRIT Technical Interest Group of the European Community ESPRIT Programme. The Graphics and Interac tion in ESPRIT Technical Interest Group arose from a meeting of researchers held in Brussels in May 1988, which identified a number of technical areas of common interest across a significant number of ESPRIT I and ESPRIT II projects. It was recognized that there was a need to share information on such activities between projects, to disseminate results from the projects to the world at large, and for projects to be aware of related activities elsewhere in the world. The need for a Technical Interest Group was confirmed at a meeting held during ESPRIT Technical Week in November 1989, attended by over 50 representatives from ESPRIT projects and the Commission of the European Communities. Information exchange sessions were organized during the EUROGRAPHICS '89 confer ence, with the intention of disseminating information from ESPRIT projects to the wider research and development community, both in Europe and beyond.

Book Applications of Computer Aided Time Series Modeling

Download or read book Applications of Computer Aided Time Series Modeling written by Masanao Aoki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 335 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of three parts: Part One is composed of two introductory chapters. The first chapter provides an instrumental varible interpretation of the state space time series algorithm originally proposed by Aoki (1983), and gives an introductory account for incorporating exogenous signals in state space models. The second chapter, by Havenner, gives practical guidance in apply ing this algorithm by one of the most experienced practitioners of the method. Havenner begins by summarizing six reasons state space methods are advanta geous, and then walks the reader through construction and evaluation of a state space model for four monthly macroeconomic series: industrial production in dex, consumer price index, six month commercial paper rate, and money stock (Ml). To single out one of the several important insights in modeling that he shares with the reader, he discusses in Section 2ii the effects of sampling er rors and model misspecification on successful modeling efforts. He argues that model misspecification is an important amplifier of the effects of sampling error that may cause symplectic matrices to have complex unit roots, a theoretical impossibility. Correct model specifications increase efficiency of estimators and often eliminate this finite sample problem. This is an important insight into the positive realness of covariance matrices; positivity has been emphasized by system engineers to the exclusion of other methods of reducing sampling error and alleviating what is simply a finite sample problem. The second and third parts collect papers that describe specific applications.

Book Integration Technologies for Industrial Automated Systems

Download or read book Integration Technologies for Industrial Automated Systems written by Richard Zurawski and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-10-03 with total page 723 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If there exists a single term that summarizes the key to success in modern industrial automation, the obvious choice would be integration. Integration is critical to aligning all levels of an industrial enterprise and to optimizing each stratum in the hierarchy. While many books focus on the technological components of enterprise information systems, Integration Technologies for Industrial Automated Systems is the first book to present a comprehensive picture of the technologies, methodologies, and knowledge used to integrate seamlessly the various technologies underlying modern industrial automation and information systems. In chapters drawn from two of Zurawski's popular works, The Industrial Communication Technology Handbook and The Industrial Information Technology Handbook, this practical guide offers tutorials, surveys, and technology overviews contributed by experts from leading industrial and research institutions from around the world. The book is organized into sections for cohesive and comprehensive treatment. It examines e-technologies, software and IT technologies, communication network-based technologies, agent-based technologies, and security in detail as well as their role in the integration of industrial automated systems. For each of these areas, the contributors discuss emerging trends, novel solutions, and relevant standards. Charting the course toward more responsive and agile enterprise, Integration Technologies for Industrial Automated Systems gives you the tools to make better decisions and develop more integrated systems.
