It covers interdisciplinary research subjects relating to scientific computing, aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, material sciences, aircraft structures, and flight mechanics. The respective chapters are based on papers presented at the Final Symposium of the Collaborative Research Center (CRC) 880, which was held on December 17-18, 2019 in Braunschweig, Germany. The conference and the research presented here were partly supported by the CRC 880 on “Fundamentals of High Lift for Future Civil Aircraft,” funded by the DFG (German Research Foundation). The papers offer timely insights into high-lift technologies for short take-off and landing aircraft, with a special focus on aeroacoustics, efficient high-lift, flight dynamics, and aircraft design.

Book Recent Advances in Fluid Dynamics with Environmental Applications

Download or read book Recent Advances in Fluid Dynamics with Environmental Applications written by Jaime Klapp and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-25 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gathers selected contributions presented at the Enzo Levi and XX Annual Meeting of the Fluid Dynamic Division of the Mexican Physical Society in 2014. The individual papers explore recent advances in experimental and theoretical fluid dynamics and are suitable for use in both teaching and research. The fluid dynamics applications covered include multiphase flows, convection, diffusion, heat transfer, rheology, granular materials, viscous flows, porous media flows, geophysics and astrophysics. The contributions, some of which are introductory and avoid the use of complicated mathematics, are suitable for fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students. Accordingly, the book is of immense benefit to these students, as well as to scientists in the fields of physics, chemistry and engineering with an interest in fluid dynamics from experimental and theoretical points of view.

Book Synergistic Airframe propulsion Interactions and Integrations

Download or read book Synergistic Airframe propulsion Interactions and Integrations written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This white paper addresses the subject of Synergistic Airframe-Propulsion interactions and integrations (SnAPII). The benefits of SnAPII have not been as extensively explored. This is due primarily to the separateness of design process for airframes and propulsion systems, with only unfavorable interactions addressed. The question "How to design these two systems in such a way that the airframe needs the propulsion and the propulsion needs the airframe?" is the fundamental issue addressed in this paper. Successful solutions to this issue depend on appropriate technology ideas. This paper first details some ten technologies that have yet to make it to commercial products (with limited exceptions) and that could be utilized in a synergistic manner. Then these technologies, either alone or in combination, are applied to both a conventioal two-engine transonic transport and to an unconventional transport, the Blended Wing Body. Lastly, combinations of these technologies are applied to configuration concepts to assess the possibilities of success relative to five of the ten NASA aeronautics goals. These assessments are subjective, but they point the way in which the applied technologies could work together for some break-through benefits.

Book Frontiers of Computational Fluid Dynamics 2002

Download or read book Frontiers of Computational Fluid Dynamics 2002 written by David A. Caughey and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 523 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This series of volumes on the ?Frontiers of Computational Fluid Dynamics? was introduced to honor contributors who have made a major impact on the field. The first volume was published in 1994 and was dedicated to Prof Antony Jameson; the second was published in 1998 and was dedicated to Prof Earl Murman. The volume is dedicated to Prof Robert MacCormack. The twenty-six chapters in the current volume have been written by leading researchers from academia, government laboratories, and industry. They present up-to-date descriptions of recent developments in techniques for numerical analysis of fluid flow problems, and applications of these techniques to important problems in industry, as well as the classic paper that introduced the ?MacCormack scheme? to the world.

Book High Lift Aerodynamics

Download or read book High Lift Aerodynamics written by Jochen Wild and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-02-03 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a detailed look at high-lift aerodynamics, which deals with the aerodynamic behavior of lift augmentation means from various approaches. After an introductory chapter, the book discusses the physical limits of lift generation, giving the lift generation potential. It then explains what is needed for an aircraft to fly safely by analyzing the high-lift-related requirements for certifying an aircraft. Aircraft needs are also analyzed to improve performance during takeoff, approach, and landing. The book discusses in detail the applied means to increase the lift coefficient by either passive and active high-lift systems. It includes slotless and slotted high-lift flaps, active and passive vortex generating devices, boundary and circulation control, and powered lift. Describing methods that are used to evaluate and design high-lift systems in an aerodynamic sense, the book briefly covers numerical as well as experimental simulation methods. It also includes a chapter on the aerodynamic design of high-lift systems. FEATURES Provides an understanding of the physics of flight during takeoff and landing from aerodynamics to flight performance and from simulation to design Discusses the physical limits of lift generation, giving the lift generation potential Concentrates on the specifics of high-lift aerodynamics to provide a first insight Analyzes aircraft needs to improve performance during takeoff, approach, and landing Focuses on civil transport aircraft applications but also includes the associated physics that apply to all aircraft This book is intended for graduate students in aerospace programs studying advanced aerodynamics and aircraft design. It also serves as a professional reference for practicing aerospace and mechanical engineers who are working on aircraft design issues related to takeoff and landing.
