This book was released on 2019-07-22 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume the philosophy of perception and observation is discussed by leading philosophers with implications in the philosophy of mind, in epistemology, and in philosophy of science. In the last years the philosophy of perception underwent substantial changes and new views appeared: the intentionality of perception has been contested by relational theories of perception (direct realism), a richer view of perceptual content has emerged, new theories of intentionality have been defended against naturalistic theories of representation (e. g. phenomenal intentionality). These theoretical changes reflect also new insights coming from psychological theories of perception. These changes have substantial consequences for the epistemic role of perception and for its role in scientific observation. In the present volume, leading philosophers of perception discuss these new views and show their implications in the philosophy of mind, in epistemology and in philosophy of science. A special focus is laid on Franz Brentano and Ludwig Wittgenstein. A reference volume for all scholars and students of the history, psychology and philosophy of perception, and cognitive science.

Book Embedded Computing

    Book Details:
  • Author : Joseph A. Fisher
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN : 1558607668
  • Pages : 710 pages

Download or read book Embedded Computing written by Joseph A. Fisher and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2005 with total page 710 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Embedded Computing is enthralling in its clarity and exhilarating in its scope. If the technology you are working on is associated with VLIWs or "embedded computing", then clearly it is imperative that you read this book. If you are involved in computer system design or programming, you must still read this book, because it will take you to places where the views are spectacular. You don't necessarily have to agree with every point the authors make, but you will understand what they are trying to say, and they will make you think.” From the Foreword by Robert Colwell, R&E Colwell & Assoc. Inc The fact that there are more embedded computers than general-purpose computers and that we are impacted by hundreds of them every day is no longer news. What is news is that their increasing performance requirements, complexity and capabilities demand a new approach to their design. Fisher, Faraboschi, and Young describe a new age of embedded computing design, in which the processor is central, making the approach radically distinct from contemporary practices of embedded systems design. They demonstrate why it is essential to take a computing-centric and system-design approach to the traditional elements of nonprogrammable components, peripherals, interconnects and buses. These elements must be unified in a system design with high-performance processor architectures, microarchitectures and compilers, and with the compilation tools, debuggers and simulators needed for application development. In this landmark text, the authors apply their expertise in highly interdisciplinary hardware/software development and VLIW processors to illustrate this change in embedded computing. VLIW architectures have long been a popular choice in embedded systems design, and while VLIW is a running theme throughout the book, embedded computing is the core topic. Embedded Computing examines both in a book filled with fact and opinion based on the authors many years of R&D experience. Features: · Complemented by a unique, professional-quality embedded tool-chain on the authors' website, http://www.vliw.org/book · Combines technical depth with real-world experience · Comprehensively explains the differences between general purpose computing systems and embedded systems at the hardware, software, tools and operating system levels. · Uses concrete examples to explain and motivate the trade-offs.

Book Information Hiding

Download or read book Information Hiding written by Fabien A. P. Petitcolas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-07-01 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These post-proceedings contain 27 papers that were accepted for presentation at the Fifth International Workshop on Information Hiding, held 7–9 October 2002, in Noordwijkerhout, The Netherlands. The papers were selected from 78 submissions on the basis of their scienti?c excellence and novelty by the program committee. We tried to have a balanced program covering several aspects of information hiding. The program committee was composed of Ross J. Anderson (Univ- sity of Cambridge, UK), Jan Camenisch (IBM Zurich Research Laboratory, Switzerland), Ingemar J. Cox (NEC Research Institute, USA), John McHugh (SEI/CERT, USA), Ira S. Moskowitz (Naval Research Laboratory, USA), Job Oostveen (Philips Research, The Netherlands), Andreas P?tzmann (Dresden University of Technology, Germany), Mike Reiter (Carnegie Mellon University, USA), and me. We all wish to thank all the authors of submissions for o?ering their papers for consideration. This year, contrary to the four previous workshops, the call for papers - quested anonymous submissions. However, anonymity was not compulsory and we did accept some papers in which the identity of the authors was clear. Each submission was assigned to three members of the program committee. Papers submitted by program committee members were assigned to four reviewers. The program committee relied on the advice of outside colleagues. We also insisted that 12 of the 27 accepted papers should be revised according to the comments of the reviewers.

Book Dependence Logic

  • Publisher : Birkhäuser
  • Release : 2016-06-29
  • ISBN : 3319318039
  • Pages : 286 pages

Download or read book Dependence Logic written by Samson Abramsky and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-06-29 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume, different aspects of logics for dependence and independence are discussed, including both the logical and computational aspects of dependence logic, and also applications in a number of areas, such as statistics, social choice theory, databases, and computer security. The contributing authors represent leading experts in this relatively new field, each of whom was invited to write a chapter based on talks given at seminars held at the Schloss Dagstuhl Leibniz Center for Informatics in Wadern, Germany (in February 2013 and June 2015) and an Academy Colloquium at the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (March 2014). Altogether, these chapters provide the most up-to-date look at this developing and highly interdisciplinary field and will be of interest to a broad group of logicians, mathematicians, statisticians, philosophers, and scientists. Topics covered include a comprehensive survey of many propositional, modal, and first-order variants of dependence logic; new results concerning expressive power of several variants of dependence logic with different sets of logical connectives and generalized dependence atoms; connections between inclusion logic and the least-fixed point logic; an overview of dependencies in databases by addressing the relationships between implication problems for fragments of statistical conditional independencies, embedded multivalued dependencies, and propositional logic; various Markovian models used to characterize dependencies and causality among variables in multivariate systems; applications of dependence logic in social choice theory; and an introduction to the theory of secret sharing, pointing out connections to dependence and independence logic.
