Varying the convexity of the resulting TP canonical form is a key new feature of the approach. The book concentrates on reducing analytical derivations in the design process, echoing the recent paradigm shift on the acceptance of numerical solution as a valid form of output to control system problems. The salient features of the book include: Presents a new HOSVD-based canonical representation for (qLPV) models that enables trade-offs between approximation accuracy and computation complexity Supports a conceptually new control design methodology by proposing TP model transformation that offers a straightforward way of manipulating different types of convexity to appear in polytopic representation Introduces a numerical transformation that has the advantage of readily accommodating models described by non-conventional modeling and identification approaches, such as neural networks and fuzzy rules Presents a number of practical examples to demonstrate the application of the approach to generate control system design for complex (qLPV) systems and multiple control objectives. The analytical issues addressed include the algebraic representation of fuzzy models of different types, their approximation properties, and stability analysis of fuzzy control systems. Several design aspects are addressed, including performance specification for control systems in a fuzzy decision-making framework and complexity reduction in multivariable fuzzy systems. In the third part of the book, a number of applications of fuzzy control are presented. It is shown that fuzzy control in combination with other techniques such as fuzzy data analysis is an effective approach to the control of modern processes which present many challenges for the design of control systems. One has to cope with problems such as process nonlinearity, time-varying characteristics for incomplete process knowledge. The first part on the book presents the mathematical models used for describing motion of three class of vehicles such as underwater vehicles, hovercrafts and airships. In turn, each model is expressed in terms of Inertial Quasi-Velocities. Various control strategies from the literature, including model-free ones, are then analyzed. The second part and core of the book guides readers to developing model-based control algorithms using Inertial Quasi-Velocities. Both non-adaptive and adaptive versions are covered. Each controller is validated through simulation tests, which are reported in detail. In turn, this part shows how to use the controllers to gain information about vehicle dynamics, thus describing an important relationship between the dynamics of the moving object and its motion control. The effects of mechanical couplings between variables describing vehicle motion due to inertial forces are also discussed. All in all, this book offers a timely guide and extensive information on nonlinear control schemes for unmanned marine and aerial vehicles. It covers specifically the simulation tests and is therefore meant as a starting point for engineers and researchers that would like to verify experimentally the suitability of the proposed models in real vehicles.
