Book Non Thermal Plasma Techniques for Pollution Control

Download or read book Non Thermal Plasma Techniques for Pollution Control written by Bernie M. Penetrante and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Acid rain, global warming, ozone depletion, and smog are preeminent environmental problems facing the world today. Non-thermal plasma techniques offer an innovative approach to the solution of some of these problems. There are many types of non-thermal plasma devices that have been developed for environmental applications. The potential of these devices for the destruction of pollutants or toxic molecules has already been demonstrated in many contexts, such as nitrogen oxides (NOX) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) in flue gases, heavy metals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in industrial effluents, and chemical agents such as nerve gases. This book contains a comprehensive account of the latest developments in non-thermal plasma devices and their applications to the disposal of a wide variety of gaseous pollutants.

Book Air Pollution by Photochemical Oxidants

Download or read book Air Pollution by Photochemical Oxidants written by Robert Guderian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photochemical oxidants are secondary air pollutants formed under the influence of sunlight by complex photochemical reactions in air which contains nitrogen oxides and reactive hydrocarbons as precursors. The most adverse components formed by photochemical reactions in polluted air are ozone (0 ) 3 and peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN), among many other products such as aldehydes, ketones, organic and inorganic acids, nitrates, sulfates etc. An analysis and evaluation of the available knowledge has been used to characterize the relationships among emissions, ambient air concentrations, and effects, and to identify the important controlling influences on the formation and effects of photochemical oxidants. The biological activity of photochemical oxidants was first clearly manifested during the early 1940's, when vegetation injury was observed in the Los Angeles Basin in the United States. Since that time, as a consequence of the increasing emissions of photochemical oxidant precursors, the photochemical oxidants have become the most important air pollutants in North America. In other parts of the world, for example South and Central America, Asia, and Australia, photo chemical oxidants threaten vegetation, particularly the economic and ecological performance of plant life. According to my knowledge, the first observations of ozone and PAN injury to vegetation in Europe were made by Dr. Ellis F. Darley (Statewide Air Pollution Research Center, University of California, Riverside, California) during a study visit (1963/64) to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Book Indoor Air Pollution Control

Download or read book Indoor Air Pollution Control written by Thad Godish and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an all new book designed to provide you the practical information and data you need for indoor air pollution control! Presented early in the book is theory as support for the applications that follow; including a synthesized review of the significant literature on controlling air pollution. Practical applications-largely from the author's own experience-deal with 1) How to conduct indoor air quality investigations in both residences and public access buildings, 2) Indoor air quality mitigation practice, and 3) Case histories. This book will be very useful to consultants and other professionals who grapple to solve real world problems. And it will make an excellent textbook for new courses in indoor air quality. Indoor Air Pollution Control will be used for control and prevention of contaminated air in homes, apartment buildings, office buildings (large and small), hospitals, auditoriums, and other public buildings.

Book Air Quality Management

Download or read book Air Quality Management written by Suresh T. Nesaratnam and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-03-20 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed to accompany the new Open University course in Environmental Monitoring and Protection, this is one of four new titles which will equip the reader with the tools to undertake Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs). Used in planning, decision-making and management, EIAs review both the theoretical principles and environmental considerations of engineering and environmental projects to help steer fundamental legislation in the right direction. Air Quality Management begins with an introduction to the atmosphere around us and the units of concentration. It then discusses the importance of meteorology and the part it plays in air quality, before detailing the main types of air pollutants, their sources, and their effects on humans and their environments. Further chapters discuss measurement technologies and systems, as well as a selection of control and elimination methods. Finally, the book details methods of modelling atmospheric dispersion.
