Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This definitive new book should appeal to everyone who produces, uses, or evaluates scientific data. Ensures accuracy and reliability. Dr. Taylor's book provides guidance for the development and implementation of a credible quality assurance program, plus it also provides chemists and clinical chemists, medical and chemical researchers, and all scientists and managers the ideal means to ensure accurate and reliable work. Chapters are presented in a logical progression, starting with the concept of quality assurance, principles of good measurement, principles of quality assurance, and evaluation of measurement quality. Each chapter has a degree of independence so that it may be consulted separately from the others.

Download or read book Radioecological Techniques written by Vincent Schultz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the twenty years the authors have been associated with the field of radiation ecology, there has been a diversified and increasing use of radionuclides in applied and basic biological research. Prior to the advent of the atomic age in the 1940s the use of radionuclides as tracers was initiated, and following that period one observed a dramatically increased use in many disciplines. Concurrent with this increase there appeared many books and articles on radionuclide tech niques useful to biologists in general. Although only a few ecological applications were evident in these early years, ecologists were quick to see the opportunities available in their field. In the United States, major centers for such activities included Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the U. S. Atomic Energy Com mission's Savannah River Plant. At Oak Ridge National Laboratory Dr. Stanley I. Auerbach, director of ecological activities, encouraged with remarkable suc cess the use of tracers by his associates. Dr. Eugene P. Odum had the foresight to see that radionuclide tracers provided the means to solve many problems of interest to ecologists. Consequently, his research included some unique radio tracer applications at the Savannah River Plant. In addition he encouraged others involved in ecological activities at the Savannah River Plant to do likewise. Ecologists such as Dr. Robert C. Pendleton at the U. S. Atomic Energy Com mission's Hanford Works applied radionuclides in their research. To these early investigators and to those who followed we owe the oppportunity to write this book.

Download or read book Reference Materials for Chemical Analysis written by Markus Stoeppler and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-07-11 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many academic references describing how RMs are made, but few that explain why they are used, how they should be used and what happens when they are not properly used. In order to fill this gap, the editors have taken the contributions of more than thirty RM practitioners to produce a highly readable text organized in nine chapters. Starting with an introduction to historical, theoretical and technical requirements, the book goes on to examine all aspects of RM production from planning, preparation through analysis to certification, reviews recent development areas, RMs for life analysis and some important general application fields, considers the proper usage of RMs, gives advice on availability and sources of information and lastly looks at future trends and needs for RMs. This book is intended to be a single point of information that both guides the reader through the use of RMs and serves as a primary reference source. It should be on the reading list of anyone working in an analytical laboratory and be found on the library shelf of all analytical chemical laboratories.
Download or read book 27th International Congress of Pure and Applied Chemistry written by A. Varmavuori and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 27th International Congress of Pure and Applied Chemistry is a collection of lectures presented at the 27th Congress of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, held in Helsinki, Finland, on August 27-31, 1979. The event covers a wide range of topics relating to chemistry, including biotechnology and bioengineering; trace element analysis; modern methods in clinical chemistry; and analysis and structure of cell membrane carbohydrates. Chemometrics is also discussed, along with the chemistry and technology of natural polymers and their degradation products. This book consists of 36 chapters and opens with an assessment of prospects for biotechnology amid the resource problems facing industrialized countries. The reader is then introduced to the main principles of screening effective anticancer drugs based on the methods and concepts of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics; the fundamental principles involved in steroid immunoassay for clinical chemistry applications; fractionation and determination of trace elements in plants, soils, and sediments; and trace metal analysis in exploration geochemistry. The following chapters explore clinical applications of steroid hormone receptor assays; asparagine-linked sugar chains of glycoproteins; chemistry and technology of starch; and use of high-performance liquid chromatography in the analysis of red blood cell glycolipids. This monograph will be a valuable source of information for practitioners and research workers in the field of pure and applied chemistry.
Download or read book Clinical Biochemical and Nutritional Aspects of Trace Elements written by Ananda Shiva Prasad and published by Alan R. Liss. This book was released on 1982 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: Thirty technical conference papers by experts in their field present new findings in 5 trace element research areas: essential elements (zinc, copper, chromium, selenium, manganese); trace element methodology; trace elements in total parenteral nutrition; trace elements interactions; and toxic elements (lead, cadmium, mercury). Intended to stimulate further research, the conference is reported for physicians, nutritionists, and biochemists. The papers represent the latest research on trace elements and the roles they play in human body functions. The wide variety of topics include: clinical and biological aspects of human zinc deficiency, the metabolism and biochemistry of zinc, the clinical and public health significance of chromium, trace element analyses in food and in biological samples, human mercury toxicity, and zinc nutrition in infants and children.
