Download or read book Retail distribution review written by Great Britain: Parliament: House of Commons: Treasury Committee and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2011-07-16 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this report the Treasury Committee calls on the Financial Services Agency (FSA) to delay implementing new rules on the provision of financial advice for 12 months to allow advisers more time to comply. The Committee backed plans to ban commission on advised sales and impose higher professional standards on independent financial advisers, subject to flexibility on a case-by-case basis, but were concerned that a substantial exodus of experienced advisers from the market could harm consumer choice. The FSA's Retail Distribution Review (RDR) is a major reform of the regulation of retail investment advice and is due to come into force on 1 January 2013. It will require advisors to have qualifications equivalent to a Certificate in Higher Education and remove the system of commission paid to advisors and replace it with Consumer Agreed Remuneration. The committee believes a delay of 12 months in the implementation of the RDR will reduce the number of Independent Financial Advisors leaving the market - thus maintaining choice and competition for consumers. The MPs also call on the FSA to provide some flexibility for advisers on a case by case basis. The FSA is to be replaced by the proposed Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This Treasury Committee believes that this provides an opportunity to examine the accountability mechanisms that will apply under the new system of financial regulation and will instigate an inquiry on this in due course

Download or read book Handbook on the Economics of Retailing and Distribution written by Emek Basker and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2016-01-29 with total page 513 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook explores and critically examines current research in economics and marketing science on key issues in retailing and distribution. Providing a rich perspective for the discussion of public policy, contributions from several disciplines and continents range from the history of chains and the impact of multinational retailers on international trade patterns to US merger policy in the retail context, the rise of the Internet, and consumer-to-consumer sales. The chapters address methodological issues such as the structural estimation of entry games between retailers, productivity measurement when both inputs and output are not fully observable, and demand estimation with variable assortment. Policy issues explored include mergers, zoning, and the regulation of buyer power, while other chapters address some of the recent exciting developments in technology, retail formats, and data availability. The book goes on to study the changes in online retailing and ‘big data’, and to examine competition in specific retail sectors including gasoline stations, automobile dealerships, supermarkets, and ‘big box’ retail. This state-of-the-art Handbook is an essential reference for students and academics of economics and marketing science, and offers an outsider’s perspective to specialists in operations research, data analytics, geography, and sociology.

Download or read book Retail Geography RLE Retailing and Distribution written by John Dawson and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-10-02 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Studies of the organisation and location of retailing activity have played a central role in the emergence of urban geography as a major area of academic study. Moreover, retailing is increasingly the focus of interdisciplinary research, with economists, sociologists, psychologists and marketing specialists all contributing. This book surveys and sets in context the wide range of research work that has recently been done on retailing. It concentrates on western industrial societies, particularly Britain and the USA, and considers empirical research, theory and theoretical applications. Topics covered include location analysis which is a traditional area of academic interest; consumer behaviour, which is of particular interest to psychologists, and retail organisation and government involvement, which will interest all those concerned, especially those actually involved in retail planning and management. This comprehensive book is the first substantial review of research in retail geography and suggests many future lines of research within the field. Originally published 1980.

Download or read book Reaching 50 Million Nanostores written by Jan Fransoo and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-10-16 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of small, family operated nanostores are the main source of consumer packaged goods in many neighborhoods of large cities across the developing world. In many of these countries, well over half of consumer goods are sold via the nanostore channel. Understanding this channel is critical for anyone selling or intending to sell into these large and fast growing markets. Tackling the logistics complexities of serving millions of nanostores is a challenge that many face, yet few master. In this book, we discuss logistics distribution and commercial route-to-market concepts for this channel and present best practices from Latin America, Asia, and North Africa. The book serves to inspire managers in marketing, sales, supply chain, distribution, logistics, and general management to develop their understanding and their business success in these growing markets. This book includes a unique set of case studies focusing on companies that have successfully created forward-looking approaches to retail operations over the world. The case studies included provide readers with a range of best practices, useful insights, and commercial and logistics strategies for serving diverse distribution channels. The authors (with extensive experience within these markets) and editors (from premier research institutions in Europe and the US) have done extensive field research over multiple years to develop the insights that are shared in this book. With the growth of convenience stores in the developed world, the insights also serve as an inspiration for those in Europe and North America that are confronted with a rapid proliferation of retail outlets as proximity shopping is becoming the norm. In the final chapter, the editors reflect on recent developments, particularly in China, where electronic commerce and nanostores are partnering to become a strong rival for the organized retail channel. "As the world population tends to concentrate more and more in urban environments, the two fastest growing channels for consumer goods distribution are online sales and convenient, proximal nanostores. Remarkably, this trend applies to both the most and the least developed economies. This book is a valuable resource that covers the realities and the challenges of serving nanostores, a subject much less widely covered than the "sexier" online e-commerce channel, but equally important for understanding the evolution of the world's fast moving consumer goods markets." - Sergio Barbarino, P&G Research Fellow and Chairman of The European Technology Platform for Logistic Innovation, ALICE
Download or read book Introduction to Marketing Principles of Wholesale and Retail Distribution written by Paul Dulaney Converse and published by Read Books Ltd. This book was released on 2011-04-20 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has a definite objective to combine a treatment of general marketing methods and principles with a more detailed treatment of retailing, particularly the operation of small and medium-size stores. It is believed that one cannot properly understand retailing without some knowledge of market economics and wholesaling. Students will understand retail store operation better if they first secure a general knowledge of the field of marketing and know the place of retailing in the overall picture. Therefore, market economics, the physical handling of goods, and wholesaling are treated before the discussion of retailing is begun.
