Book Quantum Phase Transitions in Cold Atoms and Low Temperature Solids

Download or read book Quantum Phase Transitions in Cold Atoms and Low Temperature Solids written by Kaden Richard Alan Hazzard and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary focus of this thesis is to theoretically describe nanokelvin experiments in cold atomic gases, which offer the potential to revolutionize our understanding of strongly correlated many-body systems. The thesis attacks major challenges of the field: it proposes and analyzes experimental protocols to create new and interesting states of matter and introduces theoretical techniques to describe probes of these states. The phenomena considered include the fractional quantum Hall effect, spectroscopy of strongly correlated states, and quantum criticality, among others. The thesis also clarifies experiments on disordered quantum solids, which display a variety of exotic phenomena and are candidates to exhibit so-called "supersolidity." It collects experimental results and constrains their interpretation through theoretical considerations. This Doctoral Thesis has been accepted by Cornell University, Ithaca, USA.

Book Strong Coupling Gauge Theories In The Lhc Perspective Scgt 12 Proceedings Of The Kmi gcoe Workshop

Download or read book Strong Coupling Gauge Theories In The Lhc Perspective Scgt 12 Proceedings Of The Kmi gcoe Workshop written by Yasumichi Aoki and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-01-13 with total page 499 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains contributions which are largely focused on strong coupling gauge theories and the search of theories beyond the standard model, as well as new aspects in hot and dense QCD — particularly in view of the LHC experiments and the lattice studies of conformal fixed point. It contains, among others, many of the latest and important reports on walking technicolor and related subjects in the general context of conformality, discussions of phenomenological implications with the LHC, as well as the theoretical ones through lattice studies. Nonperturbative studies like lattice simulations and stringy/holographic approaches are extensively elaborated in close relation to phenomenological studies. Also, heavy ion experiments at LHC are discussed in such nonperturbative approaches.

Book Controllable Quantum States

Download or read book Controllable Quantum States written by Hideaki Takayanagi and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is a collection of papers from the fourth meeting of the International Symposium on Mesoscopic Superconductivity and Spintronics held at NTT Atsugi, Japan. Research in these fields has advanced a great deal since the previous meeting, largely because these fields have drawn much attention from the viewpoint of new quantum phenomena and quantum information technology. Mesoscopic superconductivity has been developed in new fields, such as a ferromagnet/superconductor junction, the proximity effect in unconventional superconductors, macroscopic quantum tunneling in high-Tc superconductors, quantum modulation of superconducting junctions and superconducting quantum bits. The book also covers transport and spins in nano-scale semiconductor structures such as quantum dots and wires, quantum interference and coherence and order in exotic materials, and some papers on quantum algorithm. This book adequately provides an overview of recent progress in mesoscopic superconductivity.
