Book Probing Polarized Parton Distributions with Meson Photoproduction

Download or read book Probing Polarized Parton Distributions with Meson Photoproduction written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Polarization asymmetries in photoproduction of high transverse momentum mesons are a flavor sensitive way to measure the polarized quark distributions. the authors calculate the expected asymmetries in several models, and find that the asymmetries are significant and also significantly different from model to model. Suitable data may come as a by-product of deep inelastic experiments to measure g1 or from dedicated experiments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We discuss plans for Jefferson Lab to explore GPDs in hard exclusive reactions. A broad experimental program is proposed with up to 11 GeV polarized electron beams. Such an upgraded CEBAF, with high precision, and high performance detectors, will be a suitable place to study deep virtual production of mesons and photons in the range of Q2

Book First JAM Results on the Determination of Polarized Parton Distributions

Download or read book First JAM Results on the Determination of Polarized Parton Distributions written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Jefferson Lab Angular Momentum (JAM) collaboration is a new initiative aimed to the study of the angular-momentum-dependent structure of the nucleon. First results on the determination of spin-dependent parton distribution functions from world data on polarized deep-inelastic scattering will be presented and compared with previous determinations from other groups. Different aspects of global QCD analysis will be discussed, including effects due to nuclear structure, higher twist, and target-mass corrections, as well as the impact of different data selections.

Book Polarization Observables from Two pion and Meson Photoproduction on Polarized HD Target at JLab

Download or read book Polarization Observables from Two pion and Meson Photoproduction on Polarized HD Target at JLab written by and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 167 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preliminary results discussed in this theses have been carried out with the Nuclear Physics group of the Department of Physics at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, under the supervision of Prof. A. D'Angelo. On March 2012 I joined the CLAS collaboration at the Thomas Jefferson National Laboratory, in Virginia, USA, and became a term member after a probation period of 9 months. As a member I could participate to the g14 data taking, started on November 18th 2011 and finished on May 18th 2012. In that period I was in charge of the timing calibration of the CLAS forward electromagnetic spectrometer. For the duration of the experiment, I was also responsible of the Raman laboratory located at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, where the Raman measurements were performed. The Raman measurements were crucial for determining the relative concentrations of H2 and D2 in the Hydrogen-Deuteride gas which was used for the target of the g14 experiment.

Book Parton Distributions from SMC and SLAC Data

Download or read book Parton Distributions from SMC and SLAC Data written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have extracted spin-weighted parton distributions in a proton from recent data at CERN and SLAC. The valence, sea quark and Antiquark spin-weighted distributions are determined separately. The data are all consistent with a small to moderate polarized gluon distribution, so that the anomaly term is not significant in the determination of the constituent contributions to the spin of the proton. We have analyzed the consistency of the results obtained from various sets of data and the Biorken sum rule. Although all data are consistent with the sum rule, the polarized distributions from different experiments vary, even with higher order QCD corrections taken into account. Results split into two models, one set implying a large polarized strange sea which violates the positivity bound, and the other set yielding a smaller polarized strange sea. Only further experiments which extract information about the polarized sea will reconcile these differences. We suggest specific experiments which can be performed to determine the size of the polarized sea and gluons.

Book Polarized Parton Distributions and the Polarized Gluon Asymmetry

Download or read book Polarized Parton Distributions and the Polarized Gluon Asymmetry written by and published by . This book was released on 2002 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The flavor-dependent valence, sea quark and antiquark spin distributions can be determined separately from theoretical assumptions and experimental data. The authors have determined the valence distributions using the Bjorken sum rule and have extracted polarized sea distributions, assuming that the quarks and anti-quarks for each flavor are symmetric. Other experiments have been proposed which will allow them to completely break the SU(3) symmetry of the sea flavors. To create a physical model for the polarized gluons, they investigate the gluon spin asymmetry in a proton, A[sub G](x, Q[sup 2])=[Delta]G(x, Q[sup 2])/G(x, Q[sup 2]). By assuming that this is approximately Q[sup 2] invariant, they can completely determine the x-dependence of this asymmetry, which satisfies constituent counting rules and reproduces the basic results of the Bremsstrahlung model originated by Close and Sivers. This asymmetry can be combined with the measured unpolarized gluon density, G(x, Q[sup 2]) to provide a prediction for[Delta]G(x, Q[sup 2]). Existing and proposed experiments can test both the prediction of scale-invariance for A[sub G](x, Q[sup 2]) and the nature of[Delta]G itself. These models can be discussed along with suggestions for specific experiments which can be performed at energies typical of HERA, RHIC and LHC to determine these polarized distributions.

Book X dependent Polarized Parton Distributions

Download or read book X dependent Polarized Parton Distributions written by and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using QCD motivated and phenomenological considerations, they construct x- dependent polarized parton distributions, which evolve under GLAP evolution, satisfy DIS data and are within positivity constraints. Each flavor is done separately and the overall set can be used to predict polarization asymmetries for various processes. They perform their NLO analysis strictly in x space, avoiding difficulties in moment inversion. Small-x results and other physical considerations are discussed.
