This book was released on 1987-02-01 with total page 441 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Vasopressin is a hormone which has an increasingly important profile. Not only does it play a physiologically significant role in renal water regulation but it also has other renal actions and plays a role in overall cardiovascular control. Even more interesting is the recent growing interest in its potential effects on the brain, notably its influence on specific behaviours. This monograph about the polypeptide vasopressin covers all aspects relating to the production, control of release, and actions of this molecule within the body, including its roles as a hormone and as a central neurotransmitter. A consideration of the evolution of the molecule across the species and a brief historical perspective are also included. Clinical conditions associated with hypo- and hyper-production states are considered together with aspects of treatment, in addition to other clinical correlates./a

Download or read book Noncommutative Probability written by I. Cuculescu and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The intention of this book is to explain to a mathematician having no previous knowledge in this domain, what "noncommutative probability" is. So the first decision was not to concentrate on a special topic. For different people, the starting points of such a domain may be different. In what concerns this question, different variants are not discussed. One such variant comes from Quantum Physics. The motivations in this book are mainly mathematical; more precisely, they correspond to the desire of developing a probability theory in a new set-up and obtaining results analogous to the classical ones for the newly defined mathematical objects. Also different mathematical foundations of this domain were proposed. This book concentrates on one variant, which may be described as "von Neumann algebras". This is true also for the last chapter, if one looks at its ultimate aim. In the references there are some papers corresponding to other variants; we mention Gudder, S.P. &al (1978). Segal, I.E. (1965) also discusses "basic ideas".
Download or read book Ruin Probabilities written by S?ren Asmussen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2000 with total page 399 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The text is a treatment of classical and modern ruin probability theory. Some of the topics are Lundberg's inequality, the Cramer-Lundberg approximation, exact solutions, other approximations (for example, for heavy-tailed claim size distributions), finite horizon ruin probabilities, extensions of the classical compound Poisson model to allow for reserve-dependent premiums, Markov-modulation or periodicity. Special features of the book are the emphasis on change of measure techniques, phase-type distributions as computational vehicle and the connection to other applied probability areas like queueing theory.

Download or read book Convexity written by Barry Simon and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-05-19 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Convexity is important in theoretical aspects of mathematics and also for economists and physicists. In this monograph the author provides a comprehensive insight into convex sets and functions including the infinite-dimensional case and emphasizing the analytic point of view. Chapter one introduces the reader to the basic definitions and ideas that play central roles throughout the book. The rest of the book is divided into four parts: convexity and topology on infinite-dimensional spaces; Loewner's theorem; extreme points of convex sets and related issues, including the Krein–Milman theorem and Choquet theory; and a discussion of convexity and inequalities. The connections between disparate topics are clearly explained, giving the reader a thorough understanding of how convexity is useful as an analytic tool. A final chapter overviews the subject's history and explores further some of the themes mentioned earlier. This is an excellent resource for anyone interested in this central topic.

Download or read book Quantum Information And Complexity Proceedings Of The Meijo Winter School 2003 written by Takeyuki Hida and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-10-28 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum information is a developing multi-disciplinary field, with many exciting links to white noise theory. This connection is explored and presented in this work, which effectively bridges the gap between quantum information theory and complex systems. Arising from the Meijo Winter School and International Conference, the lecture notes and research papers published in this timely volume will have a significant impact on the future development of the theories of quantum information and complexity. This book will be of interest to mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists as well as electrical engineers working in this field.
