Book Probabilistic Methods in Geometry Topology and Spectral Theory

Download or read book Probabilistic Methods in Geometry Topology and Spectral Theory written by Yaiza Canzani and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-11-20 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the CRM Workshops on Probabilistic Methods in Spectral Geometry and PDE, held from August 22–26, 2016 and Probabilistic Methods in Topology, held from November 14–18, 2016 at the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques, Université de Montréal, Montréal, Quebec, Canada. Probabilistic methods have played an increasingly important role in many areas of mathematics, from the study of random groups and random simplicial complexes in topology, to the theory of random Schrödinger operators in mathematical physics. The workshop on Probabilistic Methods in Spectral Geometry and PDE brought together some of the leading researchers in quantum chaos, semi-classical theory, ergodic theory and dynamical systems, partial differential equations, probability, random matrix theory, mathematical physics, conformal field theory, and random graph theory. Its emphasis was on the use of ideas and methods from probability in different areas, such as quantum chaos (study of spectra and eigenstates of chaotic systems at high energy); geometry of random metrics and related problems in quantum gravity; solutions of partial differential equations with random initial conditions. The workshop Probabilistic Methods in Topology brought together researchers working on random simplicial complexes and geometry of spaces of triangulations (with connections to manifold learning); topological statistics, and geometric probability; theory of random groups and their properties; random knots; and other problems. This volume covers recent developments in several active research areas at the interface of Probability, Semiclassical Analysis, Mathematical Physics, Theory of Automorphic Forms and Graph Theory.

Book excerpt: This monograph presents the latest findings from a long-term research project intended to identify the physics behind Quantum Mechanics. A fundamental theory for quantum mechanics is constructed from first physical principles, revealing quantization as an emergent phenomenon arising from a deeper stochastic process. As such, it offers the vibrant community working on the foundations of quantum mechanics an alternative contribution open to discussion. The book starts with a critical summary of the main conceptual problems that still beset quantum mechanics. The basic consideration is then introduced that any material system is an open system in permanent contact with the random zero-point radiation field, with which it may reach a state of equilibrium. Working from this basis, a comprehensive and self-consistent theoretical framework is then developed. The pillars of the quantum-mechanical formalism are derived, as well as the radiative corrections of nonrelativistic QED, while revealing the underlying physical mechanisms. The genesis of some of the central features of quantum theory is elucidated, such as atomic stability, the spin of the electron, quantum fluctuations, quantum nonlocality and entanglement. The theory developed here reaffirms fundamental scientific principles such as realism, causality, locality and objectivity.

Book Non diophantine Arithmetics In Mathematics Physics And Psychology

Download or read book Non diophantine Arithmetics In Mathematics Physics And Psychology written by Mark Burgin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-11-04 with total page 960 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For a long time, all thought there was only one geometry — Euclidean geometry. Nevertheless, in the 19th century, many non-Euclidean geometries were discovered. It took almost two millennia to do this. This was the major mathematical discovery and advancement of the 19th century, which changed understanding of mathematics and the work of mathematicians providing innovative insights and tools for mathematical research and applications of mathematics.A similar event happened in arithmetic in the 20th century. Even longer than with geometry, all thought there was only one conventional arithmetic of natural numbers — the Diophantine arithmetic, in which 2+2=4 and 1+1=2. It is natural to call the conventional arithmetic by the name Diophantine arithmetic due to the important contributions to arithmetic by Diophantus. Nevertheless, in the 20th century, many non-Diophantine arithmetics were discovered, in some of which 2+2=5 or 1+1=3. It took more than two millennia to do this. This discovery has even more implications than the discovery of new geometries because all people use arithmetic. This book provides a detailed exposition of the theory of non-Diophantine arithmetics and its various applications. Reading this book, the reader will see that on the one hand, non-Diophantine arithmetics continue the ancient tradition of operating with numbers while on the other hand, they introduce extremely original and innovative ideas.

Book Stochastic Processes Physics And Geometry Ii Proceedings Of The Iii International Conference

Download or read book Stochastic Processes Physics And Geometry Ii Proceedings Of The Iii International Conference written by Sergio Albeverio and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-02-17 with total page 758 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As was already evident from the previous two meetings, the theory of stochastic processes, the study of geometrical structures, and the investigation of certain physical problems are inter-related. In fact the trend in recent years has been towards stronger interactions between these areas. As a result, a large component of the contributions is concerned with the theory of stochastic processes, quantum theory, and their relations.

Book Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics

Download or read book Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics written by Rolando Rebolledo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The seminar on Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics started in 1984 at the Catholic University of Chile in Santiago and has been an on going research activity. Since 1995, the group has organized international workshops as a way of promoting a broader dialogue among experts in the areas of classical and quantum stochastic analysis, mathematical physics and physics. This volume, consisting primarily of contributions to the Third Inter national Workshop on Stochastic Analysis and Mathematical Physics (in Spanish ANESTOC), held in Santiago, Chile, in October 1998, focuses on an analysis of quantum dynamics and related problems in probability the ory. Various articles investigate quantum dynamical semigroups and new results on q-deformed oscillator algebras, while others examine the appli cation of classical stochastic processes in quantum modeling. As in previous workshops, the topic of quantum flows and semigroups occupied an important place. In her paper, R. Carbone uses a spectral type analysis to obtain exponential rates of convergence towards the equilibrium of a quantum dynamical semigroup in the £2 sense. The method is illus trated with a quantum extension of a classical birth and death process. Quantum extensions of classical Markov processes lead to subtle problems of domains. This is in particular illustrated by F. Fagnola, who presents a pathological example of a semigroup for which the largest * -subalgebra (of the von Neumann algebra of bounded linear operators of £2 (lR+, IC)), con tained in the domain of its infinitesimal generator, is not a-weakly dense.

Book Process Algebra and Probabilistic Methods Performance Modeling and Verification

Download or read book Process Algebra and Probabilistic Methods Performance Modeling and Verification written by Holger Hermanns and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 225 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains the proceedings of the second joint PAPM-PROBMIV Workshop, held at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, July 25–26, 2002 as part of the Federated Logic Conference (FLoC 2002). The PAPM-PROBMIV workshop results from the combination of two wo- shops: PAPM (Process Algebras and Performance Modeling) and PROBMIV (Probabilistic Methods in Veri?cation). The aim of the joint workshop is to bring together the researchers working across the whole spectrum of techniques for the modeling, speci?cation, analysis, and veri?cation of probabilistic systems. Probability is widely used in the design and analysis of software and hardware systems, as a means to derive e?cient algorithms (e.g. randomization), as a model for unreliable or unpredictable behavior (as in the study of fault-tolerant systems and computer networks), and as a tool to study performance and - pendability properties. The topics of the workshop include speci?cation, m- els, and semantics of probabilistic systems, analysis and veri?cation techniques, probabilistic methods for the veri?cation of non-probabilistic systems, and tools and case studies. The ?rst PAPM workshop was held in Edinburgh in 1993; the following ones were held in Regensberg (1994), Edinburgh (1995), Turin (1996), Enschede (1997), Nice (1998), Zaragoza (1999), and Geneva (2000). The ?rst PROBMIV workshop was held in Indianapolis, Indiana (1998); the next one took place in Eindhoven (1999). In 2000, PROBMIV was replaced by a Dagstuhl seminar on Probabilistic Methods in Veri?cation.
