Book excerpt: Baseball players come from Cuba, Korea, Japan...India? India is the least likely place anyone would expect a professional baseball player to come from, but one man saw potential, and gave two men a chance to prove themselves. After a strong display of athletics on the Indian television show Million Dollar Arm, two pitchers (Rinku Singh and Dinsesh Patel) were invited to America by the Pittsburg Pirates. Some saw it as a publicity stunt, and maybe it was, but these two men were able to prove they deserved that chance. This book tells their inspiring journey. Book Gambling Under C O N T R O L Baseball Underdogs

Download or read book Gambling Under C O N T R O L Baseball Underdogs written by Johnny Depot and published by Createspace Independent Pub. This book was released on 2012-07-17 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a complete system for betting on the MLB underdogs. No stone will be unturned, and once the book is completed, you should be able to use the system profitably. I have been gambling for over 26 years, and have made every mistake there is. I have tried every single type of money management system known to man. I did not become a consistent winner until I realized that I better quit worrying about how much I was winning and started concentrating on how little I could lose. I developed the CONTROL methodology, and this revolution turned my losing ways, into winning days. My guess is you have bought this book since you have been losing, while betting America's past time. My guess is you are out of control, and with CONTROL, you can change your luck. It will not be easy. You will have to make the commitment, and follow through. This book will show you which games to play, and how to play them. Most of you know how to do research, and fail miserably with your money & risk control. Knowing how to play the games is the key to success. Knowing the proper amounts to start with and the amount to play after a win or loss is the key to gambling. This technique was over 20 years in the making, so please take it all in. You may not like or agree what I have to say, but I can assure it has worked for me. This is the only way I play underdogs in baseball. This book will give a brief summary on the CONTROL technique as it applies to this system only. Getting control of your losses is the key to successful money management. Fortunately, betting MLB underdogs is the simplest form of sports wagering. All of my gambling, trading and books on speculation will cover CONTROL since that is how I live. It may appear that CONTROL is the same for each gambling event, but I assure you that even though the theory is the same, the particulars are different.

Download or read book Betting on Major League Baseball written by Ken Osterman and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-03 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a LARGE PRINT format paperback using an 18 pt. Arial font. The essence of any good baseball handicapping system is to find games to bet on that will result in long-term profits. In other words, finding overlays. The Underdog Method uses an approach to not only find these good bets, but does so by creating a money line that can be compared to the one offered by sports books. Author and sports gambler, Ken Osterman, explains this system in an easy-to-understand way, and then uses an entire day of baseball games as examples. Each game is handicapped per the rules of the Underdog Method, and then a betting line is created. This line is compared to a specific sports book's money line. It is then decided, based upon specific rules, whether a good bet exists or not. Although demonstrating the effectiveness of any betting system is limited in a book, the approach to Major League Baseball betting using the Underdog System is significantly different than the simple angles and methods seen elsewhere. The results using The Underdog Method, for the 2015 playoffs were impressive. All games were handicapped, both the American and National League games as well as the World Series. The Results: There were a total of 26 bets There was an average price of +141.9 for all 26 wagers 13 wins and 13 losses Return on flat bet wagering was 19.81%

Book Why the U S Men Will Never Win the World Cup

Download or read book Why the U S Men Will Never Win the World Cup written by Beau Dure and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-11-15 with total page 247 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: October 10, 2017. The U.S. men’s soccer team loses in Trinidad and Tobago, and fails to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Winning soccer’s greatest prize never seemed more distant. Immediate fixes—a new coach, a revamped professional league, a commitment to coaching education—won’t put the USA in the global elite. The nation is too fractious, too litigious, too wrapped up in other sports, and too late to the game. In Why the U.S. Men Will Never Win the World Cup: A Historical and Cultural Reality Check, Beau Dure shows what American soccer is really up against. Using hundreds of sources to trace more than 100 years of history, Dure delves into the culture that only recently lost its disdain for the global game and still doesn’t have the depth of soccer insight and passion that much of the world has had for generations. The difficulty isn’t any single thing—the mismanagement of failed leagues, the inability to agree on a path forward, the lawsuits that stem from an inability to agree, or the unique American culture that treasures its homegrown sports. It’s everything. And yet, Why the U.S. Men Will Never Win the World Cup is ultimately optimistic. Dure argues that with the right long-term changes, the U.S. can build a soccer environment that consistently produces quality players, strong results, and a lot more fun on the international stage. Soccer fans and skeptics alike will find this a fascinating examination of America’s past, present, and future in the beautiful game.

After all, everyone loves a story wherein someone was considered an underdog but continued to work his way up to become one of the best. Underdogs are much more relatable to the general public because many people know what it feels like to be looked at like someone who does not have the talent and the physical capabilities to become one of the greats in their respective fields. We cheered for the underdog athletes who became some of the best at their craft even though the odds were against them. Jeremy Lin, a Harvard graduate, suddenly became a global sensation in the NBA even though Ivy League players are not known to excel in professional sports. Tom Brady, who was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL, is arguably the greatest quarterback in the history of the sport. You might even consider global football celebrity Odell Beckham Jr. as an underdog since nobody back in 2014 considered him to be the best athlete at his position during the NFL draft, but he quickly rose to prominence to achieve a level of stardom no one had thought possible. In recent years in the MLB, there seems to be one particular underdog story that has captured all of us because of how unlikely it was for him to become one of the best baseball players in all of America today. And this story really is not difficult to miss because of how literally large the man is. This is the story of Aaron Judge, an underdog in terms of his journey, but certainly not someone you would consider an underdog if you just looked at his size. Standing 6'7" and well over 280 pounds, Aaron Judge is considered to be the largest player at the outfielder position in terms of body mass in the history of MLB. He has the size that would allow him to hold his own against professional wrestlers, is bigger than LeBron James, and has the powerful body strength that would enable him to stand his ground against offensive linemen in the NFL. But just because he is huge, it does not mean that Aaron Judge was always figuratively one of the biggest players in MLB. Hope you liked this excerpt! If you did, be sure to pick up a copy of this Aaron Judge bio today.

Download or read book The 1969 Miracle Mets written by Steven Travers and published by Globe Pequot. This book was released on 2009 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the popular 1977 movie "Oh, God!" George Burns, playing the deity, is asked in a courtroom to prove His divinity by performing a miracle. Burns tells the attorney, "The last miracle I did was the 1969 Mets. Before that, I think you have to go back to the Red Sea." Man has engaged in athletic competition at least since the ancient Greeks. Baseball has been played, according to legend, since Abner Doubleday invented it at Cooperstown, New York in 1839. Through the travail of ages, in the entire history of sports, the 1969 "Amazin' Mets" remains the single most impossible, unbelievable, improbable and wonderful sports story of all times. This book tells the tale of that incredible spring, summer and fall, but it does much more than simply recount how the worst sports franchise ever ascended to the very heights of greatness in a few short months. The Last Miracle is the story of tumultuous times: the 1960s. Amidst the backdrop of the Vietnam War, the Mets remained the last, best hope of a city on the verge of bankruptcy. Through the lens of time we now can view them as a metaphor for a changing America, and in light of the Big Apple's phoenix-like comeback over the years, the catapult for this battered-yet-unbowed Metropolis. Somehow, while the Mets became the mods of baseball, the "new breed" athlete, Tom Seaver and his teammates are viewed herein as the final symbols of an innocent age; an age when the greatest icons in American culture - New York sports heroes - mounted the stage in awesome splendor; before Watergate, before free agency, before the mercenaries took over. Here they are: Seaver and Harrelson; Hodges and Stengel; Grote and Swoboda; Jones and Agee; all the characters of the greatest comedy act ever performed, all the while upstaging a tempestuous Mayoral race, President Nixon's "secret plan," a Moonshot, and Woodstock.
