Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth Sciences, Volume X: Principles of Zoological Micropalaeontology highlights the morphological, phylogenetic and ecological analysis of microfossils. This book is composed of 10 chapters that survey the most important microfossil taxa, their variety of form, evolution, relationships, and distribution. The opening chapter provides an introduction to the historical development of micropalaeontology. The succeeding chapters present the procedures for the collection, preparation, and microstratigraphic analysis of microfossils. The remaining chapters discuss the morphological, ecological, and phylogenetic properties of Radiolaria, Thekamoebae, Foraminifera, Tintinnina, Incertae sedis, Chitinozoa, and Hystrichosphere microfossils. This book is intended as a textbook and as a manual for practicing micropalaeontologists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Zoological Micropalaeontology, Volume II focuses on the study of microfossils. The book first discusses the nature and characteristics of sponges, including the morphology and main groups of sponge spicules, modifications of the shape of sponge spicules, and arrangement of skeletal elements. The text also looks at octocorals and scolecodonts. The taxonomic relationships of the melanoscleritoids; anatomy of the anterior part of the digestive system tract of polychaeta; and classification of scolecodonts are described. The selection also touches on conodonts. Topics include morphology; phylogeny of lamellar conodonts; and geological distribution of conodonts and their value in correlation. The text also examines ostracoda and echinodermata, including reproduction, sexual dimorphism, ecology of ostracods, and skeletal elements of crinoidea, echinoidea, and holothuroidea. The book also discusses otoliths. Topics include nomenclature and morphology of otoliths; geological distribution and value of otoliths, and history of research. The text is a good source of information for readers interested in fossils.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Zoological Micropalaeontology, Volume 2 highlights the morphological, phylogenetic and ecological analysis of microfossils. This book is composed of eight chapters that survey the most important microfossil taxa, their variety of form, evolution, relationships, and distribution. The first chapters describe the general morphology and characteristics of skeletal elements of main groups of sponges, melanoscleritoids, polychaetes, and conodonts. Other chapters deal with the anatomy, reproduction, ecology, phylogenetics, classification, and geological distribution of Ostracod and Echinodermata. The last chapters examine the morphological, phylogenetic, and structural aspects of class Ascidiacea and fish microfossils. This book is of great value to micropalaeontologists, zoologists, phylogeneticists, and taxonomists.
Download or read book Principles of Animal Nutrition written by Robin Moore and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2018-04-14 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles of Animal Nutrition deals with classification and function of nutrients, deficiency symptoms, digestive processes, characterization of feedstuffs and formulation of diets for domestic animals. Animal nutrition entails the study of the composition and characteristics of the material consumed by the animal, the manner in which this material is metabolized (converted, utilized, and excreted) in the digestive tract and body cells of mono gastric animals (pigs, broilers, layers), ruminants (sheep, cattle, goats), and lower digestive tract fermenters (horses, ostriches). The nutrient requirements of different species animals for various production functions are also addressed. Nutrition is important for a variety of reasons. Animals need the proper nutrition for growth and maintenance, and to provide energy for work and vital functions. Maintenance is the nutrition required for an animal to maintain its current weight. Energy is the ability of the body to perform functions. Proper nutrition is also needed to maintain body temperature, produce milk, reproduce, and develop proper bone structures. Without proper nutrition, animals can develop health problems, which could result in treatment costs or even fatality. Good nutrition is essential for all of the systems of an animal to function and work together properly. This book contains the fundamental and basic information of subject and the selection of contents makes it an appropriate book for the students as well as for scholars.

Download or read book Introductory Petrography of Fossils written by Alan S. Horowitz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a book for beginners. Not geological beginners, because an introductory course in paleontology and some knowledge of the petrographic microscope is assumed, but for beginners in the study of the petrography of fossil constituents in sedimentary rocks. Fossils are studied for various reasons: 1) to provide chron ologic (time) frameworks, 2) to delineate rock units and ancient environments, or 3) to understand the past development (evolu tion) of living plants and animals. All of these uses may be at tained through petrographic studies of thin sections of fossils embedded in sedimentary rocks. Some knowledge of the appear ance of fossils in thin section is also fundamental for general stratigraphic studies, biofacies analyses, and is even useful in studying some metamorphic rocks. Commonly, fossils are essen tial for the delineation of carbonate rock types (facies or bio facies). We have written this book for sedimentary petrologists and stratigraphers, who routinely encounter fossils as part of their studies but who are not specialists in paleontology, and for students who are seeking a brief review and an introduction to the literature of the petrography of fossiliferous sedimentary rocks. Although experienced paleontologists may be appalled by the many generalized statements on size, shape, and principal fossil characters recited herein, we counter that we have had some success in introducing non-paleontologically oriented geologists to the use and identification of fossil constituents without using excessive paleontological terminology and detailed systematics.

Download or read book Introduction to Marine Micropaleontology written by B.U. Haq and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1998-03-12 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This beautifully illustrated text book, with state-of-the-art illustrations, is useful not only for an introduction to the subject, but also for the application of marine microfossils in paleoceanographic, paleoenvironmental and biostratigraphic analyses. The recent revival of interest in marine micropaleontology worldwide in the wake of the development of sequence stratigraphic models has led to the decision to reissue the volume in its original, but paperback, form. The ideas expressed in various chapters of this second edition remain as valid today as they were when the book was first issued. The text, however, includes an updated Phanerozoic geologic time which has been considerably modified since the 1980s.

Download or read book Magill s Survey of Science written by Frank Northen Magill and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Survey makes accessible the core knowledge of the sciences to curious readers with no special preparation. Within the 377 articles here, 141 cover the major subfields of physical geology, 26 treat areas of economic geology, from essential minerals and other earth resources to the variety of ways man harnesses geothermal, wind, ocean, solar, and nuclear power. Thirty articles examine a range of issues in geochemistry. Geophysics is given full coverage in 35 articles. The planet's history, as well as its impact on the development of life and various early life forms, is explored in 22 articles on fossils, ice ages, dinosaurs, mass extinctions, and evolution. Water is examined in all its forms and sources in 27 articles. There are 36 articles on the solar system, eight on major mountain ranges, soils are done in eight, the atmosphere in 18. Averaging seven pages, articles begin with ready-reference matter and a list of principal terms. A summary section forms the major part of each article, providing a description of either the phenomenon or the methodology. "Context," the concluding section of each essay, presents the conclusions, applications, and implications derived from investigation of the topic. Finally, an annotated, selected bibliography directs the reader to sources that are accessible to the nonspecialist. Cross-references lists articles that offer additional information on the same or a related topic.
