Book Pathology and Bacteriology for Dental Students

Download or read book Pathology and Bacteriology for Dental Students written by Guthrie McConnell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-15 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pathology and Bacteriology for Dental Students Important as pathology and bacteriology are in the study of dentistry, there are certain facts that must be considered. Such students deal with a distinctly limited portion of the great extent of the above subjects, and consequently should not be expected to become specialists in them. Yet a thorough drilling in the underlying groundwork is essential. It has become evident, therefore, as a result of several years of teaching, that the text-books as prepared for medical students contain much that can well be omitted from the dental curriculum. For that reason this manual has been prepared. One that is expected to contain a full presentation of general pathology and bacteriology and what additional along special lines as has been considered advisable. With a complete knowledge of the basic principles of these subjects, the student will then be able to apply them to his work, and later, if he so desires, to specialize. It is hoped that this volume will be found to accomplish the end desired. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book General Pathology and Principles of Medicine for Students and Practitioners of Dentistry Classic Reprint

Download or read book General Pathology and Principles of Medicine for Students and Practitioners of Dentistry Classic Reprint written by Vernon Cecil Rowland and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-17 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from General Pathology and Principles of Medicine for Students and Practitioners of Dentistry From a still more practical standpoint, general pathology is necessary for an understanding of the oral manifestations of systemic disease. For example, syphilis, Often in its most infectious forms, occurs as lesions in the mouth. The disease might very readily be inoculated into the dentist's finger by a puncture wound or through a minute skin defect, or it might be carried on an unsterilized instrument to another patient. A proper realization of the need for asepsis in dentistry can not be gained except by a study of the principles of pathology and Of the elements at least Of clinical medicine. Unless the dentist knows that the causative agent of many infectious diseases, from colds to cerebrospinal meningitis, may be present in the oral secretions of his patient, his aseptic technic sooner or later is very apt to become most perfunctory in character. The administration of general anesthetics by dentists certainly makes some knowledge of elementary clinical medicine highly desirable. Grave heart disease may be suspected by blueness or cyanosis of the lips and gums and severe anemia by the pallor of the mucous membranes. In short, dentistry is but a special field of medicine. The two were originally the same profession and of late years as the dental field enlarged to Oral Surgery, Orthodontia, and Prophylaxis of Oral and Systemic Infections, Dentistry and Medicine are again coming closer together.
