Download or read book Principles of Molecular Rheumatology written by George C. Tsokos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-07-24 with total page 533 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: George Tsokos and a panel of authoritative clinicians and researchers synthesize the latest findings from across cell and molecular biology with the basic principles of rheumatology to create the first textbook of molecular rheumatology. These established experts describe the biochemical mechanisms by which apoptosis, cell signaling, complement, lipids, and viruses contribute to disease expression, and detail both immune and nonimmune cell function in rheumatic diseases. Their review of the major rheumatic diseases integrates the cellular, biochemical, and molecular biological mechanisms that are important in rheumatic disease pathogenesis. Path-breaking and illuminating, Principles of Molecular Rheumatology expands the envelope of clinical understanding to reveal the biological roots underlying rheumatologic disease, as well as the nature and roles of the powerful new therapeutics now emerging for its optimal treatment.

Book Rheumatology Clinical Principles and Practice

Download or read book Rheumatology Clinical Principles and Practice written by Jeffrey Cain and published by American Medical Publishers. This book was released on 2023-09-19 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rheumatology is the branch of medicine that deals with the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases. There are more than hundred types of rheumatic diseases. Some of the common ones include osteoarthritis, tendinitis, capsulitis, palindromic rheumatism, Sjögren syndrome, dermatomyositis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. Rheumatic diseases can cause severe damage to essential organs including lungs, heart, nervous system, kidneys, skin and eyes. These diseases may even lead to difficulty in performing simple routine activities including bathing, dressing and walking. The intake of analgesics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs is considered to be effective in treating rheumatic diseases. Rheumasurgery refers to surgical methods for the treatment of rheumatic diseases, and includes synovectomies and corrective interventions such as joint replacement. The study of such conditions and the development of therapeutic interventions for these disorders falls under the scope of rheumatology. This book is a compilation of chapters that discuss the most vital concepts and emerging trends in the field of rheumatology. Various advancements in this domain related to clinical principles and practice have been looked at in detail. This book includes contributions of experts and doctors, which will provide innovative insights to the readers.

Book Rheumatology Principles and Practice

Download or read book Rheumatology Principles and Practice written by Sullivan Princeton and published by Hayle Medical. This book was released on 2019-06-06 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rheumatology is a specialization in medicine that deals with musculoskeletal immune-mediated disorders, soft tissue conditions, autoimmune diseases and heritable connective tissue disorders. Physical examination for the diagnosis of rheumatic diseases involves multiple joint-inspection, Schober's test, along with general, regional and screening musculoskeletal exams. Laboratory tests such as anti-CCP, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, ANA, etc. combined with X-ray and ultrasound imaging of affected joints aid in making a correct diagnosis. Treatment of rheumatic diseases is customized to suit individual needs of each patient. Apart from medications that address pain, inflammation and other symptoms, physiotherapy is key to rheumatic disease management. Various surgical interventions are also devised by integrating orthopedics with rheumatology for enhanced function, pain relief and reduced disease activity. This book traces the progress in the field of rheumatology and highlights some of its key principles and practices. The various advancements in the understanding of rheumatic diseases are glanced at and their implications as well as ramifications are looked at in detail. Students, researchers, rheumatologists, experts and all associated with this area of research will benefit alike from this book.

Book Stem Cell Therapy for Autoimmune Disease

Download or read book Stem Cell Therapy for Autoimmune Disease written by Richard K. Burt and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-11-11 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stem cell transplantation may be complicated by treatment-related mortality and like the immune system that it regenerates has equal potential to either create and preserve or destroy. The dual nature that defines stem cells is differentiation that ultimately leads to death and self-renewal, which leads to immortality. What types of stem cells are there? How are they collected? What are their attributes and characteristics? This textbook devotes many chapters to familiarize the reader with the basic science, clinical aspects, and new questions being raised in the field of stem cell biology. Blood stem cells for tolerance and tissue regeneration are a rapidly developing research and clinical field that is being applied to autoimmune diseases. In clinical trials, autologous hematopoietic (blood) stem cells are being used to reduce the cytopenic interval following intense immune suppressive transplant regimens. While as yet not delineated, some possible mechanisms and pathways leading to tolerance after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation are suggested in these chapters. Tissue regeneration from blood stem cells is also suggested by animal experiments on stem cell plasticity or metamoirosis (i.e., change in fate) as described within this textbook. Ongoing early clinical trials on tissue regeneration from blood stem cells are described in the chapter on stem cell therapy for cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. Whether autologous hematopoietic stem cells, through the process of mobilization and reinfusion, may be manipulated to contribute to tissue repair in autoimmune diseases is a future area for translational research.
