Book Mechanics of Solids and Fluids

Download or read book Mechanics of Solids and Fluids written by Franz Ziegler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a unified presentation of the concepts and most of the practicable principles common to all branches of solid and fluid should be appealing to advanced undergraduate mechanics. Its design students in engineering science and should also enhance the insight of both graduate students and practitioners. A profound knowledge of applied mechanics as understood in this book may help to cultivate the versatility that the engineering community must possess in this modern world of high-technology. This book is, in fact, a reviewed and extensively improved second edition, but it can also be regarded as the first edition in English, translated by the author himself from the original German version, "Technische Mechanik der festen und flOssigen Korper," published by Springer-Verlag, Wien, in 1985. Although this book grew out of lecture notes for a three semester course for advanced undergraduate students taught by the author and several colleagues during the past 20 years, it contains sufficient material for a subsequent two-semester graduate course. The only prerequisites are basic algebra and analysis as usually taught in the first year of an undergraduate engineering curriculum. Advanced mathematics as it is required in the progress of mechanics teaching may be taught in parallel classes, but also an introduction into the art of design should be offered at that stage.

Download or read book Mechanics of Solids and Fluids written by Franz Ziegler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 866 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: from reviews of the first edition "This book is a comprehensive treatise... with a significant application to structural mechanics_ the author has provided sufficient applications of the theoretical principles_ such a connection between theory and application is a common theme and quite an attractive feature._ The book is a unique volume which contains information not easily found throughout the related literature." _ APPL. MECH. REV. This text, suitable for courses on fluid and solid mechanics, continuum mechanics, and strength of materials, offers a unified presentation of the theories and practical principles common to all branches of solid and fluid mechanics. For the student, each chapter proceeds from basic material to advanced topics usually covered at the graduate level. The presentation is self -contained, the only prerequisites are the basic algebra and analysis that are usually taught in the first and second years of an undergraduate engineering curriculum. Extensive problem sets, new in this edition, make the text more useful than before. For the practicing engineer, Mechanics of Solids and Fluids provides an up-to-date synopsis of the principles of solid and fluid mechanics combined with illustrative examples. The conservation laws for mass, momentum and energy are considered for both material and control volumes. The discussion of elastostatics includes thermal stress analysis and is extended to linear viscoelasticity by means of the correspondence principle. The Ritz-

Book Introduction to the Physics of Fluids and Solids

Download or read book Introduction to the Physics of Fluids and Solids written by J. S. Trefil and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-11-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to the Physics of Fluids and Solids presents a way to learn continuum mechanics without mastering any other systems. It discusses an introduction to the principles of fluid mechanics. Another focus of study is the fluids in astrophysics. Some of the topics covered in the book are the rotation of the galaxy, the concept of stability, the fluids in motion, and the waves in fluids, the theory of the tides, the vibrations of the earth, and nuclear fission. The viscosity in fluids is covered. The flow of viscous fluids is discussed. The text identifies the general circulation of the atmosphere. An analysis of the general properties of solids is presented. A chapter of the volume is devoted to the applications of seismology. Another section of the book focuses on the flow of the blood and the urinary drop spectrometer. The book will provide useful information to doctors, physicists, engineers, students and researchers.

Book Principles of Continuum Mechanics

Download or read book Principles of Continuum Mechanics written by Mysore N. L. Narasimhan and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1993 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuum mechanics is the mathematical study of material behavior as well as the principles governing this behavior where the basic constituents of the material are regarded as continua rather than as molecules, atoms, or grains. From this perspective one sees that the basic constituents are assumed to possess a continuous distribution of matter and the material as a whole is composed of such elements. Principles of Continuum Mechanics deals with the behavior of materials and their qualitative and quantitative treatment by means of a continuum approach in which materials are regarded as possessing a continuous distribution of matter. The book is ideally suited for use by first- or second-year graduate students. The book is also written for the benefit of researchers in engineering mechanics, applied mathematics, atmospheric science, oceanography, and for those in the biomedical sciences. This book is devoted to the classical continuum theory of solids and fluids as well as to certain topics of modern continuum mechanics of viscoelasticity and microcontinua together with their applications to problems of practical interest. Complete mathematical derivations of most of the fundamental equations and inequalities in continuum mechanics are included, thereby freeing the reader from having to go to other sources to find these derivations. The book contains an extensive bibliography which will be most useful for students and researchers wishing to pursue problems engendered by the text. And a Solutions Manual is available upon request to the Publisher. All in all, Principles of Continuum Mechanics should reach a wide audience of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians. Itseasy-to-understand style and the simple elegance of the work it presents make it a valuable addition to the literature in the field.
