Book Principles and Technologies of Flotation Machines

Download or read book Principles and Technologies of Flotation Machines written by Zhengchang Shen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-13 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book highlights the principles and technologies of flotation machine mainly used in mineral processing in detail. Froth flotation is one of the most important mineral processing techniques. Over 90% of the nonferrous minerals and 50% of the ferrous minerals in the world are treated using flotation: a complicated technique including procedures from chemistry, physics and multi-scale fluid mechanics. The book introduces readers to air-forced and air-induced flotation cells and discusses the various mechanical structures and working principles involved. A number of examples from industrial engineering practice are also discussed throughout the book, helping readers to better understand the technology and relevant equipment. The book is intended for researchers, professionals and graduate students in the fields of mining and mineral processing engineering.

Book Flotation Technology

Download or read book Flotation Technology written by Lawrence K. Wang and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-06-09 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past 30 years have seen the emergence of a growing desire worldwide that positive actions be taken to restore and protect the environment from the degrading effects of all forms of pollution – air, water, soil, and noise. Since pollution is a direct or indirect consequence of waste, the seemingly idealistic demand for “zero discharge” can be construed as an unreal- tic demand for zero waste. However, as long as waste continues to exist, we can only attempt to abate the subsequent pollution by converting it to a less noxious form. Three major questions usually arise when a particular type of pollution has been identi?ed: (1) How serious is the pollution? (2) Is the technology to abate it available? and (3) Do the costs of abatement justify the degree of abatement achieved? This book is one of the volumes of the Handbook of Environmental Engineering series. The principal intention of this series is to help readers formulate answers to the last two questions above. The traditional approach of applying tried-and-true solutions to speci?c pollution p- blems has been a major contributing factor to the success of environmental engineering and has accounted in large measure for the establishment of a “methodology of pollution control. ” However, the realization of the ever-increasing complexity and interrelated nature of current environmental problems renders it imperative that intelligent planning of pollution abatement systems be undertaken.

Book Adsorptive Bubble Separation Techniques

Download or read book Adsorptive Bubble Separation Techniques written by Robert Lemlich and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adsorptive Bubble Separation Techniques focuses on the mechanisms of the various adsorptive bubble separation methods. This book examines the various adsorptive bubble separation techniques, including ion flotation, foam fractionation, precipitate flotation, mineral flotation, bubble fractionation, and solvent sublation. Organized into 20 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the certain important properties of foam. This text then examines the results of several separations, as well as the results of additional studies into the mechanisms of the different techniques. Other chapters explain the studies of foam separation in the case of synthetic solutions, which provide a good knowledge of the extraction mechanisms of the radioactive cations, cesium, cerium, and strontium. This book discusses as well the experimental and theoretical work on foam separation done in Israel. The final chapter deals with the separation of surfactants and metallic ions at various places around the world. This book is a valuable resource for materials scientists, engineers, and chemists.

Book Float Your Boat

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mark Denny
  • Publisher : JHU Press
  • Release : 2008-12-15
  • ISBN : 0801895685
  • Pages : 279 pages

Download or read book Float Your Boat written by Mark Denny and published by JHU Press. This book was released on 2008-12-15 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An estimated 4.1 million people in the United States participate in recreational sailing. Yet the large library of sailing literature leaves many of them high and dry. On one side are technical guides for America’s Cup boat-builders; on the other, simplistic books for weekend sailors with little interest in science. In Float Your Boat! professional and amateur boaters alike will find intelligent and understandable answers to such questions as: What were the key innovations that made sailboats more efficient? How do you increase the speed of a boat? How do sailboats travel into the wind? Why are so many explanations of sailing so wrong? Sailing enthusiast and physicist Mark Denny first traces the evolution of the sailing craft, from prehistoric coracles made of animal skins and antlers to the sailboat’s reinvention as a pleasure craft during the Industrial Revolution. He then identifies specific sailing phenomena—how wind drives modern Bermuda sloops, how torque determines stability, why hull speed exists—and provides the key physics principles behind them. Whether you are an inquisitive landlubber who has never set foot in a boat, a casual weekend sailor, or an old salt who lives for the sea, Float Your Boat! is an accessible guide to the physics of sailing.

Book Ship Hydrostatics and Stability

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ship Hydrostatics and Stability is a complete guide to understanding ship hydrostatics in ship design and ship performance, taking you from first principles through basic and applied theory to contemporary mathematical techniques for hydrostatic modeling and analysis. Real life examples of the practical application of hydrostatics are used to explain the theory and calculations using MATLAB and Excel. The new edition of this established resource takes in recent developments in naval architecture, such as parametric roll, the effects of non-linear motions on stability and the influence of ship lines, along with new international stability regulations. Extensive reference to computational techniques is made throughout and downloadable MATLAB files accompany the book to support your own hydrostatic and stability calculations. The book also includes definitions and indexes in French, German, Italian and Spanish to make the material as accessible as possible for international readers. - Equips naval architects with the theory and context to understand and manage ship stability from the first stages of design through to construction and use. - Covers the prerequisite foundational theory, including ship dimensions and geometry, numerical integration and the calculation of heeling and righting moments. - Outlines a clear approach to stability modeling and analysis using computational methods, and covers the international standards and regulations that must be kept in mind throughout design work. - Includes definitions and indexes in French, German, Italian and Spanish to make the material as accessible as possible for international readers.
