Book The Principles of Agricultural Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Principles of Agricultural Practice Classic Reprint written by Consultant in Respiratory Medicine John Wrightson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Agricultural Practice The chapters are indeed lectures, and each chapter opens with a reference to what had previously occupied attention. Omissions of certain principles made during the delivery of one lecture were often supplied upon the next occasion, whereas in the ordinary course of writing, an exhaustive treatment would have been preferred. It is my hope to follow up the present volume with another, and to open up, to the best of my ability, the proper lines upon which the principles of the whole art of Agriculture should be taught. Download or read book First Principles of Agriculture Classic Reprint written by Edward Burnett Voorhees and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Principles of Agriculture The purpose of this book is to state in logical order the elementary principles of scientific agriculture, and to show the relation of these scientific facts to farm practice. The need of such a book has been strongly felt by the author in his work as a teacher, not only of college students, but of those already engaged in farming. His experience, both as a practical farmer and as a teacher of the theory and application of agricultural science, leads him to believe that the principles and relations of scientific agriculture, if set forth clearly and in a scientific manner, can be successfully taught in our country district schools. It is here that such education must begin, if it is to reach and influence the mass of farmers, upon Whom rests the chief burden of irrational practice, and through Whom must come any direct pro gress in the true development of the farming industry. Book Complete Farmer s Guide

Download or read book Complete Farmer s Guide written by Edwin Jackson Kyle and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-18 with total page 502 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Complete Farmer's Guide: Fundamentals of Farming and Farm Life It was also the purpose of the authors to provide a book that did not stop with giving mere advice about farm prae tices to be memorized by the pupils, but taught first of all the fundamental principles of plant and animal growth and reproduction and of soil management. In this way the pupils are made able to understand the reasons for farm practices and to criticise any old or new practice independently. By emphasizing these far-reaching principles first, the thousand and one details of practice in the study of farm crops and animal husbandry which are later given become a matter for simple reasoning instead of a mere dead weight to be carried in memory. In order still further to develop the powers of observation, exercise the reason, and connect the lessons with the daily life and home needs of the pupils, lists of suggestive questions, exercises, and problems are provided for each subject. It is an astonishing fact that no text-book has given to the work of the farmer girls and farmers' wives more than a pass ing mention. Undoubtedly, the conditions in the country schools make this problem difficult, but it is believed that, with the aid of the experts in domestic economy and rural teaching who generously co - operated, a very valuable be ginning has been made in this text in enabling the school to give somewhat the same preparation for her life work on the farm to the farmer girl that is now given to the farmer boy. We have in general tried to broaden the conception of the course in elementary agriculture from that of a mere treatise on raising plants and animals for sale to that of a means of preparation for living intelligently and happily, as well as profitably, on the farm. It is a great pleasure to express here our appreciation of the assistance generously given by our colleagues in prepar ing this book. Book Principles and Practice of Poultry Culture Classic Reprint

Download or read book Principles and Practice of Poultry Culture Classic Reprint written by John H. Robinson and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-24 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Principles and Practice of Poultry Culture Need of instruction. The practice of poultry culture is an art or a craft or a combination of art and craft according to the purpose for which it is pursued and the taste and skill of those engaged in it. A workman may attain great proficiency in many operations merely through skill in imitation. Such a workman, however, must work always after a model or under the direction of one familiar with all phases of his art or craft and thoroughly under standing its principles. In any enterprise engaging large numbers of people, only a small proportion of these need be qualified to oversee and direct the work; but as the number of persons engaged diminishes, the proportion understanding the processes involved and their relations must increase, until, in such occupa tions as farming and housekeeping, each husbandman and house wife must be able to do and to direct the doing of a variety of operations, adapting and adjusting all to the general result sought. The relation of this fact to agricultural and technical education has not been sufficiently emphasized. Considering it here only in its application to poultry culture, it is plain that a general knowl edge of the subject is as necessary and as useful to one whose plans contemplate perhaps the maintenance of a flock of a few hundred fowls on the farm as to one who intends to undertake operations on a large scale. Both require the same preparation, as far as preparation can be given by book and class instruction. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book First Principles of Agriculture

Download or read book First Principles of Agriculture written by Henry Tanner and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Principles of Agriculture In the preparation of this elementary work upon the Principles of Agriculture, the author has been desirous of avoiding, as far as possible, the use of technical terms, in cases where other terms in general use would convey the same idea. When it has been necessary to employ such terms, they have been explained in the simplest possible manner, so as to render the book intelligible to all classes of readers. Although the work is strictly elementary, the author has considered it desirable to draw attention to certain points in practice and in theory, which seem to be insufficiently recognized by many of our practical and scientific agriculturists. Preface To The Second Edition. The rapid sale of a large edition, and the favourable opinions which have been expressed of its utility, encourage the hope that the "First Principles of Agriculture" has not only been found useful for pupils under instruction in the elementary stage of Agricultural Science, but of value to those who desire to inform themselves on the subject. The alterations which have been made in the Second Edition will probably increase its utility. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Chemistry of Farm Practice Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Chemistry of Farm Practice Classic Reprint written by Thomas Ellison Keitt and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Chemistry of Farm Practice Life, food, and raiment are directly or indirectly de pendent upon agricultural products. In the settlement of our country, land was abundant and people were few, con sequently little thought was given to the needs of the increasing numbers of succeeding generations. As the land first cultivated lost its fertility, the tide of population turned westward where unlimited areas of virgin soil awaited the herds and plowshares of the settlers. But this fresh area has been occupied, and to maintain the fertility of; those fields that are still productive and to restore those that have become exhausted is the problem now facing agriculture. The maintenance of the fertility of a productive soil demands the intelligent application of the principles of agricultural chemistry. The restoration of wornout fields is a difficult and costly undertaking. The successful farmer must reinforce his art by the application of the fundamental information derived from the study of chemistry, geology, botany, bacteriology, and entomology. Chemistry aids agriculture in many ways. By means of it, exact data are collected and the fundamental reasons for practical results are explained. Then, too, chemistry invents new or improves old methods of fertilization. The chemist analyzes soils, manures and vegetable products. The value of soil analysis to the practical farmer, perhaps formerly overrated, in more recent years has been under rated. From a soil analysis the farmer can at least learn if his soil is unusually deficient in any important element. Chemistry also protects the agriculturist from the impositions of the unscrupulous fertilizer manufacturer.
