Book Principles and Concepts for Martial Arts Principles of Martial Arts for Judo Bjj Wrestling Sambo and Other Grappling Arts

Download or read book Principles and Concepts for Martial Arts Principles of Martial Arts for Judo Bjj Wrestling Sambo and Other Grappling Arts written by Sylvain Galibert and published by Knowledge for Grapplers. This book was released on 2017-03-08 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Principles are the reasons why techniques work... or don't. There are hundreds of thousands of techniques from dozens of martial arts, but they all rely on a relatively small set of principles: Breaking the balance, distributing your weight, conserving energy, applying leverage... Once you know and understand the major principles behind grappling techniques, new techniques become easier to learn, all techniques become clearer, and your ability to make the techniques work for you will increase as well. Understanding HOW, WHY, and WHEN the moves work will bring your Judo, BJJ, Sambo or wrestling to a new level. Every decent grappling book will cover some principles along with techniques, but I have never found a book explaining principles and concepts into any kind of depth. This book is meant to bridge that gap and concentrates on principles and concepts, along with explanations, examples and illustrations. Even though my own background is in Judo, BJJ and Karate, these principles are common to all grappling arts, from Judo and BJJ to Sambo, Wrestling, Catch, Luta Livre, etc. I hope you will find value in it. There are also a couple bonus chapters in this edition covering fundamentals of anatomy and strategy for grapplers. If you are interested in my take on these subjects, please let me know.Note: this book was originally published under the title "Principles And Concepts For Grapplers" and is now being republished with a nicer cover, a new name and some updates (mostly added a glossary and new illustrations, etc.) based on reader's feedback.

Book Sambo Martial Arts

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sambo, which originated in the early 20th century in the Soviet Union, is a combat sport and martial art. Sambo is an acronym representing the Russian phrase "SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya," which translates to "weaponless self-defense." It was formulated through the integration of strategies derived from diverse martial arts, such as judo, jiu-jitsu, and grappling, with an emphasis on effective combat and practical self-defense. Sambo encompasses an extensive array of methodologies, such as submissions, joint grips, throws, and takedowns. Sambo is classified into two primary styles: combat Sambo and sport Sambo. - Sport Sambo emphasizes strikes, takedowns, and ground grappling techniques in its competitive variant. While sharing many similarities with judo, it also incorporates characteristics of wrestling and other forms of martial arts. In order to accrue points, participants strive to attain dominant ground positions or execute clean throws while donning blazers reminiscent of judo uniforms. - Combat Sambo: In addition to grappling, Combat Sambo incorporates striking techniques such as elbows, jabs, and kicks, making it a more realistic and practical form of the martial art. Initially designed with military and law enforcement objectives in mind, its primary concentration was on equipping individuals with the necessary skills to engage in hand-to-hand combat scenarios. Combat Sambo teaches its practitioners how to counter and defend against a variety of assaults, such as grabs, holds, and strikes. Sambo is renowned for its efficacy and adaptability in both self-defense and athletic settings. It has amassed an international following and is now a popular pastime among people of all ages and backgrounds.

Book Martial Arts with Peace and Soul

Download or read book Martial Arts with Peace and Soul written by Rita Miller and published by . This book was released on 2020-10-03 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: IntroductionMartial arts are codified systems and traditions of combat practiced for a number of reasons such as self-defense; military and law enforcement applications; competition; physical, mental, and spiritual development; entertainment; and the preservation of a nation's intangible cultural heritageAlthough the term martial art has become associated with the fighting arts of East Asia, it originally referred to the combat systems of Europe as early as the 1550s. The term is derived from Latin and means "arts of Mars", the Roman god of war. Some authors have argued that fighting arts or fighting systems would be more appropriate on the basis that many martial arts were never "martial" in the sense of being used or created by professional warriors. The martial art of boxing was practiced in ancient Thera. Variation and scopeMartial arts may be categorized using a variety of criteria, including: -Traditional/historical arts vs. contemporary styles: e.g., folk wrestling compared to modern hybrid martial arts.-Techniques taught: armed vs. unarmed, and within these categoriesoarmed: by type of weapon (swordsmanship, stick fighting etc.)ounarmed: by type of combat (grappling vs. striking, stand-up fighting vs. ground fighting)-By application or intent: self-defense, combat sport, choreography or demonstration of forms, physical fitness, meditation, etc. By technical focusUnarmedUnarmed martial arts can be broadly grouped into those focusing on strikes, those focusing on grappling, and those that cover both fields, often described as hybrid martial arts.Strikes-Punching: Boxing, Wing Chun, Karate-Kicking: Taekwondo, Capoeira, Savate-Others using strikes: Lethwei, Muay Thai, Kung Fu, Pencak Silat, KalaripayattuGrappling-Throwing: Hapkido, Judo, Sumo, Wrestling, Aikido-Joint lock/Chokeholds/Submission holds: Judo, Jujutsu, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Sambo, Kung Fu-Pinning Techniques: Judo, Wrestling, AikidoArmedThe traditional martial arts that cover armed combat often encompass a wide spectrum of melee weapons, including bladed weapons and polearms. Such traditions include eskrima, silat, kalaripayat, kobudo, and historical European martial arts, especially those of the German Renaissance. Many Chinese martial arts also feature weapons as part of their curriculum.Sometimes, training with one specific weapon may be considered a style in its own right, especially in the case of Japanese martial arts, with disciplines such as kenjutsu and kendo (sword), bojutsu (staff), and kyūdō (archery). Similarly, modern martial arts and sports include modern fencing, stick-fighting systems like canne de combat, and modern competitive archery.By application or intentCombat-orientedMain articles: Combat sport and Self-defenseHealth-orientedMany martial arts, especially those from Asia, also teach side disciplines which pertain to medicinal practices. This is particularly prevalent in traditional Asian martial arts which may teach bone-setting, herbalism, and other aspects of traditional medicine.[4]Spirituality-orientedMartial arts can also be linked with religion and spirituality. Numerous systems are reputed to have been founded, disseminated, or practiced by monks or nuns.Throughout the Asian arts, meditation may be incorporated as a part of training. In the arts influenced by a mix of Chan Buddhist, Taoist and Confucian philosophy, the practice itself may be used as an aid to attaining mindfulness.Japanese styles, when concerning non-physical qualities of the combat, are often strongly influenced by Mahayana Buddhist philosophy. Concepts like "empty mind" and "beginner's mind" are recurrent. Aikido practitioners for instance, can have a strong philosophical belief of the flow of energy and peace fostering, as idealised by the art's founder Morihei Ueshiba.
