Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Fran ois Mauriac

Download or read book Fran ois Mauriac written by Edward Welch and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While François Mauriac’s reputation as a novelist is well established, it is often forgotten that fiction forms only part of his output, and that in the post-war years especially, it was principally his activities as a journalist which kept him in the public eye. His interventions in the key debates of the period helped to consolidate his position as a major intellectual alongside Jean-Paul Sartre and Albert Camus. This book examines the evolution of François Mauriac’s career during the twentieth century, and his gradual transformation from novelist to intellectual. Situating Mauriac and his activities firmly in their socio-cultural context, it draws in particular on the insights provided by Bourdieusian sociology to explore the mechanisms and social processes which allow Mauriac to emerge as an authoritative voice of moral conscience. In doing so, it offers new perspective on key moments in his career, from his changing fortunes as a novelist in the 1930s, examined here for the first time through the prism of his reception by the influential Nouvelle Revue française, to his unlikely collaboration with the then-radical L’Express in the 1950s. At the same time, it argues that tracing Mauriac’s trajectory helps to crystallise the broader changes affecting the literary and cultural landscape in France during the twentieth century.

Book Fran ois Mauriac

Download or read book Fran ois Mauriac written by John Ernest Flower and published by University of Exeter Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: François Mauriac is one of France's most read and consistently studied modern writers. For more than a decade, Mauriac's work has been increasingly subjected to analyses drawing their inspiration in one way or another from psychology. Most of the essays in this collection are written from a psychobiographical or psychocritical viewpoint, drawing on the work of Freud, Marthe Robert, Klein, Lacan and Mauron. In some cases, they investigate recurrent themes, motifs or preoccupations in Mauriac's work as a who≤ in others, they focus their attention on individual texts. Brought together, they indicate the richness of this kind of approach as well as of the material at which it is directed. The essays are presented in the language of original composition (English or French) with a complete set of summaries in the alternate language in an appendix.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Art Drama Architecture and Music written by Miron Grindea and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ADAM International Review was the longest-running literary periodical in Europe. It first appeared in Britain during the Second World War and continued to challenge and entertain its readers until 1985, when the death of its only editor, Miron Grindea, brought its lively story to an end. ADAM published material that had never been published before - an essay by Proust on Balzac, numerous drawings by Jean Cocteau, poems by Katherine Mansfield, musings by Picasso, and essays by T.S. Eliot. This anthology contains an outstanding selection of the original material with numerous illustrations and remembers a special man in a turbulent era.
