Book Prestressed Concrete Highway Pavement

Download or read book Prestressed Concrete Highway Pavement written by Gayle E. Albritton and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The general objective of this project was to monitor and evaluate the performance of prestressed (posttensioned) concrete pavement during the construction phase. The construction of this pavement was just south of Brookhaven, Miss. on U.S. Highway 84. Most of the 58 prestressed slabs were 450 feet in length and all were 24 feet wide and 6 inches thick. Located between the prestressed slabs were reinforced concrete gap slabs 8 feet in length and 7 inches thick. An expansion joint was set at each end of the slabs. This report describes the construction of the 2 1/2 miles of four lane prestressed pavement.

Book Prestressed Concrete Pavements

Download or read book Prestressed Concrete Pavements written by National Research Council (U.S.). Highway Research Board. Committee on Rigid Pavement Design and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Design investigations and limited testing of model and prototype slabs indicate that prestressed pavements permit a more efficient use of construction materials in terms of required pavement thickness. Prestressed pavements can be designed with fewer joints and with less probability of cracking than conventional rigid pavements, thereby promising extended pavement life and reduced maintenance requirements. Information relative to the design and construction of prestressed concrete pavements is presented. Recommendations are developed on planning, design, and areas of engineering investigation and research. Minimum tests are recommended for experimental highway pavements. Design variables are discussed with factors affecting design.

Book Concrete in Highway Engineering

Download or read book Concrete in Highway Engineering written by D. Raymond Sharp and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Series of Monographs in Civil Engineering, Volume 4: Concrete in Highway Engineering focuses on the design and construction of highways. The book first offers information on concrete as a material. Cement, aggregates, water, concrete mixes, and curing concrete are then explained. The text examines the design of pavements. Principles of design, traffic loading, design of flexible and concrete pavements, and types of pavement are underscored. The text looks at subgrade soils, sub-bases, and drainage. Topics such as moisture control and drainage; control of surface and subsoil water; and layouts for subsoil drainage and for surface water drainage are discussed. The text also examines the composition of concrete roads, prestressed concrete roads, and maintenance and repair techniques. The book then discusses the appearance and surface characteristics of concrete and construction in extreme weather conditions. The selection is a reliable reference for readers wanting to know about the design and construction of highways.

Book excerpt: Paper 1 reports the results of research initiated to determine a method of measuring bond failure, to evaluate the effect of repetitive vertical loads in producing progressive bond failure from crack to crack in continuously-reinforced concrete pavements, and to determine the magnitude and distribution of bond stresses in the vicinity of cracks. Paper 2: Reviews some of the wide variety of concrete pavement designs highway building agencies in Great Britain and the countries of Western Europe use. Paper 3: Recently a new concept in the handling of terminal movement of concrete pavements adjacent to structures has been introduced employing terminal anchorages. Experience to date with these terminal anchorage systems is reported, together with their design basis.
