Download or read book Revolutionary Soldiers in Kentucky written by Anderson Chenault Quisenberry and published by Genealogical Publishing Com. This book was released on 2010-05 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nearly all the adult male settlers of Kentucky had seen service in the Revolutionary War, and this 0was especially true of the settlers from Virginia, many of whom had been granted bounty lands in Kentucky for their Revolutionary services. In addition to a roll of the officers of the Virginia Line who received land bounties in Kentucky, this work includes a roll of the Revolutionary pensioners in Kentucky, a list of the Illinois Regiment that served under George Rogers Clark in the Northwest Campaign, and a roster of the Virginia Navy, amounting in total to about 6,500 individuals. The important roll of pensioners, alphabetically arranged under each county, contains about 3,000 names, with rank or grade, the state they served from, character of service, the act under which they were beneficiaries, the date they were placed on the rolls, and their ages.

Download or read book The Papers of Henry Clay written by Henry Clay and published by University Press of Kentucky. This book was released on 1963 with total page 950 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This third volume in the ten-volume series covers the career of Henry Clay from the Second Session of the Sixteenth Congress, where he engineered the second Missouri Compromise, to the presidential election of 1824, when he found himself eliminated as a candidate. Upon his return from Congress in 1821, Clay practiced law and interested himself in Transylvania University, among other things. Elected again to the House of Representatives and to the Speakership in the Eighteenth Congress, Clay resumed his leadership in national affairs; his concerns at this period were principally with the Monroe Doctrine, the Spanish and Greek revolutions, and internal improvements and the tariff. A continuing thread in the volume is the presidential campaign of 1824. Clay's correspondence illustrates the changes in political techniques brought about by the emergence of the Jacksonian type of campaign. Sectionalism, already revealed as a danger to the Union, continued as an important issue. Clay's optimistic anticipation of his election of course proved incorrect, and the volume ends with Clay in the powerful but uncomfortable position of being able, by throwing his support to one of three candidates before the House of Representatives, to choose the next President of the United States. Publication of this book was assisted by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
