Book Clearer Structure Cleaner Water

Download or read book Clearer Structure Cleaner Water written by Daniel W. Hancock and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clean water is a cornerstone of California¿s economic and environmental well-being. As the state¿s lead water quality guardians, the State Water Resources Control Board and the nine Regional Water Quality Control Boards play a critical role in the state¿s health. Their job is to protect and improve the state¿s aquifers, rivers, lakes and shoreline. However, the boards today must rely on regulatory tools that are not adequate to address modern threats to water quality, resulting in a system that has lost the confidence of the population. The Calif. gov. and legis. must reform the current system into one that assures transparency, consistency and accountability. The report includes recommend. for strengthening ties and solving problems. Graphs and charts.

Book Over Regulated California Water Quality Standards

Download or read book Over Regulated California Water Quality Standards written by Stacey Lauren Dickson and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Public drinking water systems throughout California are subjected to maximum contaminant levels or water quality regulations imposed by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the California State Water Resources Control Board. As California’s water quality regulations become more stringent than federal levels, many public water systems are forced out of compliance and may be subjected to declaring bankruptcy. This paper will evaluate the existing limitations constraining public water systems from increasing water rates on constituents to pay for compliance costs and explore the option of modifying maximum contaminant levels to less oppressive levels. By analyzing the adversarial effects on water rate increases from voter initiatives, this study will eliminate proposition amendments as viable solutions in addition to promoting the use of cost-benefit analysis as seen in the cases of uranium, arsenic, and chromium-6 to amend California’s maximum contaminant levels. It is hypothesized that increasing California maximum contaminant levels to the levels required by the United States Environmental Protection Agency will concurrently promote economic affordability amongst public water systems as well as access to a precious natural resource while maintaining public health.

Book Los Angeles County Community Water Systems

Download or read book Los Angeles County Community Water Systems written by Gregory S. Pierce and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the essential role water plays in Los Angeles County, surprisingly little is known about our community water systems. Community water systems are the fundamental building blocks of California’s water supply network. These systems are responsible for providing households, businesses, and governments with a reliable supply of clean water at a reasonable price. They are on the front lines of adapting to drought and climate change. They manage lifeline programs for the County’s many low-income households. These systems are the portals through which federal, state, and regional officials implement water policies supporting water supply reliability, conservation, efficiency, affordability, environmental protection, and public health. Our analysis of these systems can be used to directly inform state-wide initiatives formed to address pressing drinking water concerns, such as emergency assistance efforts, the Water Energy Technology program, the recently-legislated Low Income Water Assistance Program and the work of the office of Sustainable Water Solutions....By providing this Atlas and Policy Guide we seek to improve policymakers’ understanding of the population of community water systems within Los Angeles County and to provide a data resource for future researchers--Luskin Center for Innovation publications website.

Book excerpt: "Dorothy Green has produced a tour de force with her wonderfully clear exposition of the evolution of water-management successes and failures in the greater Los Angeles area and much of the state."--Norris Hundley, author of The Great Thirst: Californians and Water--A History "If you have questions about water management in California, this book holds the answers. Water delivery systems make life possible in California, from natural watersheds and rivers to man-made aqueducts, treatment plants and delivery pipes. Dorothy Green's Managing Water uses the Los Angeles area to tell a statewide story of water supply, drinking water quality and treatment, conservation, recycling, and future planning. How is water kept pure or, when polluted, made clean again? What contaminates lurk in groundwater basins? What agency delivers water to your home? And how are water policy decisions made that effect your future? This is a detailed summary of the complex world of California water management that provides common sense recommendations for the future."--David Carle, author of Introduction to Water in California "For students of California water, Dorothy Green uses the complexity of water management in the Los Angeles area as the essential classroom. This is required reading and a necessary reference for all who participate in southern California's efforts to manage its most limited and threatened resource."--Jeffrey Mount, University of California, Davis, author of California Rivers and Streams

Book Water for Growth

    Book Details:
  • Author : Ellen Hanak
  • Publisher : Public Policy Instit. of CA
  • Release : 2005
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 214 pages

Download or read book Water for Growth written by Ellen Hanak and published by Public Policy Instit. of CA. This book was released on 2005 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: California's population is expected to add another 14 million people by 2030, reaching a total of 48 million. One of the most serious concerns of policymakers is whether the state will be able to supply the water needed to sustain such a population. Although many large water projects in the past were undertaken with state and federal leadership, most current options are local or regional in scope. The frontline agencies responsible for water supply are the hundreds of municipal utilities serving the state's residential and commercial customers. In this report, the author examines how well California is faring in meeting the water supply challenges of growth throughout the state and the extent to which local governments are integrating water supply concerns into their land-use planning. The report also evaluates progress in implementing the new "show me the water" laws, SB 610 and SB 221, which require up-front screening of water availability for large development projects.

Book Water Reuse

    Book Details:
  • Author : National Research Council
  • Publisher : National Academies Press
  • Release : 2012-07-17
  • ISBN : 0309224624
  • Pages : 276 pages

Download or read book Water Reuse written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-07-17 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanding water reuse-the use of treated wastewater for beneficial purposes including irrigation, industrial uses, and drinking water augmentation-could significantly increase the nation's total available water resources. Water Reuse presents a portfolio of treatment options available to mitigate water quality issues in reclaimed water along with new analysis suggesting that the risk of exposure to certain microbial and chemical contaminants from drinking reclaimed water does not appear to be any higher than the risk experienced in at least some current drinking water treatment systems, and may be orders of magnitude lower. This report recommends adjustments to the federal regulatory framework that could enhance public health protection for both planned and unplanned (or de facto) reuse and increase public confidence in water reuse.
