Book excerpt: We're all interested in living a long life, but few of us are willing to sacrifice everything to attain that longevity. After all, what good is living an additional decade at the expense of enjoying the previous ones?Far from being just another off-putting list of strict prohibitions, this book zeroes in on the key factor for optimal longevity: balance. Dr. Paster introduces us to the five spheres of wellness: the physical, mental, kinship/social, spiritual, and material spheres. Within each of these, he pinpoints the most threatening busters -- those lifestyle aspects that will, sooner or later, kill you. And for each buster, he recommends the most advantageous boosters -- habits that will counteract the buster and not only extend your life, but also improve your quality of living. The Longevity Code is the long-awaited comprehensive guide to health care for the next century, striking the perfect balance between a healthful diet and a soul-satisfying meal with friends, between growing old gracefully and living life to the fullest.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobody wants to get old. And why would we? The aging process eventually affects every one of our body systems - from mental function and sexual performance to physical appearance, ability, and strength. But chronological age has little to do with a person's biological age: some people are old at fifty, while others are still sharp and spry at ninety. The things we've always considered ''normal aging'' are actually caused by physiological problems that, in many cases, respond to medical treatment and healthy lifestyle habits. As a result, the human life span can be significantly increased while maintaining - or even improving - the quality of life! This contemporary approach to aging - known as anti-aging medicine - is a specialty practiced by more than 30,000 physicians worldwide. It uses advanced scientific and medical technologies for the early detection, prevention, treatment, and reversal of age-related dysfunction, disorders, and diseases. In the near future, we can look forward to boundless health and vitality thanks to these anti-aging approaches. You can start by enjoying 121 Ways to Live 121 Years ... and More! - a handbook for living a long and healthy life.

Book A Doctor S Prescription for Longevity and Survival

Download or read book A Doctor S Prescription for Longevity and Survival written by Vincent N. Cefalu Sr. M.D. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-03-28 with total page 425 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers advice to people who would like to hopefully increase their longevity and have as much enjoyment and fulfi llment out of life as possible. I present an honest and commonsense approach on how to remain as healthy as theoretically possible while keeping some credibility and satisfaction in life. I provide many recommendations that deal with real-life situations instead of fantasies and present conclusions based on my having personally performed over 1,500 autopsies and my own deleterious consequences of having developed atherosclerotic disease from being over four hundred pounds for over thirty years. In this book, I detail a very strict diet plan, the perfect diet, which I created, that resulted in my losing 272 pounds over a ten-month period, and whereby my continued adherence has allowed me to be able to maintain this weight. However, I relate the many problems that I developed in following such a rigorous diet program and offer prophylactic advice to people electing to lose weight extremely fast so that they wont encounter the same problems. I also provide some very inexpensive and easy-to-prepare low-calorie recipes that I concocted which are good appetizers and fi ller-uppers. In my usual witty, satiric manner, I discuss many dangerous drugs that should be avoided and mention several foods that should be eliminated from a persons diet, along with furnishing some of my own little homemade poems along the way. Through my experiences as having served as coroner, I disclose many hazards that exist in our environment, mention some simple things that people tend to forget that, too often, result in fatalities, and present my views of many of the over-the-counter products. By making overweight and diabetic individuals aware of certain physiological processes that are continuously occurring in our bodies, hopefully they would be in a better position to understand and interpret my suggestions. In brief, I have something to offer all my readers from the most radicalmy diet planto the most realistic and conservative. In a nutshell, I lived through what I now advocate against, since I discovered too late what obesity could do to the human body.

Book excerpt: How do some people avoid the slowing down, deteriorating, and weakening that plagues many of their peers decades earlier? Are they just lucky? Or do they know something the rest of us don’t? Is it possible to grow older without getting sicker? What if you could look and feel fifty through your eighties and nineties? Founder of the Institute for Aging Research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and one of the leading pioneers of longevity research, Dr. Nir Barzilai’s life’s work is tackling the challenges of aging to delay and prevent the onset of all age-related diseases including “the big four”: diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. One of Dr. Barzilai’s most fascinating studies features volunteers that include 750 SuperAgers—individuals who maintain active lives well into their nineties and even beyond—and, more importantly, who reached that ripe old age never having experienced cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, or cognitive decline. In Age Later, Dr. Barzilai reveals the secrets his team has unlocked about SuperAgers and the scientific discoveries that show we can mimic some of their natural resistance to the aging process. This eye-opening and inspirational book will help you think of aging not as a certainty, but as a phenomenon—like many other diseases and misfortunes—that can be targeted, improved, and even cured.
