Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We all face death, but how many of us are actually ready for it? Whether our own death or that of a loved one comes first, how prepared are we, spiritually or practically? In Preparing to Die, Andrew Holecek presents a wide array of resources to help the reader address this unfinished business. Part One shows how to prepare one's mind and how to help others, before, during, and after death. The author explains how spiritual preparation for death can completely transform our relationship to the end of life, dissolving our fear and helping us to feel open and receptive to letting go in the dying process. Daily meditation practices, the stages of dying and how to work with them, and after-death experiences are all detailed in ways that will be particularly helpful for those with an interest in Tibetan Buddhism and in Tibetan approaches to conscious dying. Part Two addresses the practical issues that surround death. Experts in grief, hospice, the funeral business, and the medical and legal issues of death contribute chapters to prepare the reader for every practical concern, including advance directives, green funerals, the signs of death, warnings about the funeral industry, the stages of grief, and practical care for the dying. Part Three contains heart-advice from twenty of the best-known Tibetan Buddhist masters now teaching in the West. These brief interviews provide words of solace and wisdom to guide the dying and their caregivers during this challenging time. Preparing to Die is for anyone interested in learning how to prepare for death from a Buddhist perspective, both spiritually and practically. It is also for those who want to learn how to help someone else who is dying, both during the time of illness and death as well as after death.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gloria Parnham Bradfield has captured the political intrigue, suspense and humor of 19th Century American life in her insightful new novel, THRONES. Set in 1848, Bradfield´s story transports the reader into the smoldering political climate of the antebellum South where men manipulated, conspired and debated the future of the country as they steeled their positions for what was to come. Bradfield´s years of period research are reflected in the pages of this extremely well-crafted tale. The author snipped a hole in history and inserted fictional land owner Nathan Coulter, his sons Justin and Dan, and Rebecca Chancellor, prococious daughter of the junior Senator of South Carolina. The characters´ lives intersect with the explosive issues of the day as events lead them from New York to the White House to Virginia´s Tidewater and the plantations of South Carolina. The well-honed use of dialogue, dialect, debates and dissention help develop the issues of the 1840s and 1850s in a manner relevant to our time. Addressing the predominant topic of the era, THRONES explores the political and economic issues that tied the country to slavery while depicting the slaves´ profound contribution to the music, language, cuisine and culture that make up the South´s rich heritage. Historical fiction devotees and political enthusiasts will be mesmerized by the political partnerships and secret dealings recounted in Bradfield´s exciting new book. THRONES is a compelling and enriching read.

Book excerpt: Most people spend more time each day preparing to go to bed then they do preparing for the final act of their lives which is death. We spend more time figuring out the answers to questions that will be posed by a teacher or boss than we do to the Supreme Judge who will ask for an account of our lives. We spend more time worrying and planning for the what ifs in life than we do over the assured events that will happen upon our departure from this life. What would happen if we were to spend half the time used preparing for this temporal life to prepare for eternal life? This book invites you to prepare for the greatest adventure of all.

Book excerpt: Lyman, a thirty-year-old orphan, is sipping coffee on the front steps of the trailer he calls home one morning, when a ninety-year-old parrot arrives with a beakful of cryptic sayings -- such as "That which hath wings shall tell the matter" -- and a mysterious past. Convinced that heeding the bird's wisdom will lead him to answers about himself he so desperately seeks, Lyman combines his night job as a courtesy patrolman, circling the highway that loops around Fort Worth, with days in the library. Together with Fiona, the loquacious librarian, he traces his adopted pet's origins, and while what Lyman ultimately discovers may not help him piece together his own past, it paves the way for a future he never imagined.

Book Give Us This Day Devotionals Volume 2

Download or read book Give Us This Day Devotionals Volume 2 written by Charles Erlandson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-05-28 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Give Us This Day is a unique daily devotional commentary for the entire New Testament based on the ancient method called lectio divina. Lectio divina, or "divine reading," is the method used by the early church and countless Christians through the centuries to read the Scriptures to form and transform the soul more than merely to inform the mind. Give Us This Day deals in depth with entire passages and their contexts. Rather than selecting only certain portions of the New Testament to write about, Fr. Charles has written a devotional for each and every passage of the New Testament. Fr. Charles writes for the whole person: he's not afraid to use his sense of humor, and he carefully relates the Bible not only to the individual's life but also to the life of the Church. At the end of each day's devotional, an appropriate Prayer is offered, as well as Points for Further Reflection on the day's lesson. Each devotional concludes with a suggested Resolution to put into effect what the Spirit has stirred up in the heart of the reader during the course of his reading, meditation, and prayer.

When a high school teacher introduced Rick Tremblay to play guitar for Monique Dinel at a talent show, they could not have imagined then that this would develop into a life-long relationship. Their high school friends couldn’t believe, even years later, this odd match up. Maybe serendipity orchestrated the whole affair, using music as bait to start their love song. Musically Yours is the soundtrack of Monique & Rick Tremblay’s life and speaks to their unbreakable bond as Young Musicians, as the Married Duo, and the Devoted Couple. A memoir of this Duet’s life in song, their love of music and their hopes in their lyrics. This love story about Monique & Rick tenderly reveals where love resides in their adventures, challenges and hopes. A love that was put to the ultimate test but they endured. It’s their legacy as witnessed through their eyes and hearts. Their hope is that their story will inspire you to embrace the precious moments in your own journey. The duet resides in Ottawa, Ontario, where Rick continues to ‘live in the moment’ and Monique does her best to make those moments happen.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With over two million Americans incarcerated in jails and prisons, we see an epidemic in our country. What is the answer? Amid the many proposals for solving this issue, I believe the best solution is more of God. Actually, every one of us needs more of God and His word in our lives, no matter where we are in life. These devotionals were written with the physically incarcerated in mind but apply to all of us. These pages focus on God's word, as a mind saturated with Scripture is a mind headed toward making right choices. I see God's word as a vital source of comfort and challenge. We all fall and fail. Over and over. God's grace is a comfort to us in those moments of needed forgiveness. Yet God's grace also challenges us to get up and press on in living out our faith as new creations in Christ. It is my prayer that these devotionals will both comfort and challenge you wherever you are in your journey with God through this life.

Book excerpt: The Biblical Sabbath and its true Calendar... Jews, Seventh-day Adventists and many other Sabbatarians observe the Sabbath on Saturday, basing this practice on the fact that Saturday is the 7th-day of the Gregorian calendar week. But is this truly the Sabbath of the Creator mentioned in the Scriptures? Can a divine institution sanctioned by the Creator of the Heavens and Earth be observed on a calendar that has its roots in paganism, or is there more to the Sabbath question than many honest truth-seeking Christians have dared to ask? This book will reveal why neither Saturday nor Sunday are NOT the 7th-day Sabbath of the Lord. This is the message of the hour!

Book The Lord God of Ten Dispensations in Divisions of Five and Seven

Download or read book The Lord God of Ten Dispensations in Divisions of Five and Seven written by Eli Simpson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-03-28 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This servant-writer, at approximately two-and- a- half -years of age, after having heard a very dark-complexioned preacher say that God could wash him white as snow and that he was not afraid to die, moved from the pew to the aisle to see The Book. I desired to know the all of The Book. I immediately asked the God of all things who was outside of The Book, the church, and beyond the sky, looking from eternity, to let me know The Book. I remember from that moment until today that the white as snow scripture is Isaiah 1:18. The Biblical disclosure that sins be as white as snow produced an incited desire for the precise wording of the scriptures with the true meaning. Yet, for all my lifetime, I have believed that the King James Version of 1611, and the new English spelling which appears in the late 1792 published edition, authorized by the United States Congress, needs no human intervention to understand. The Holy Ghost must interpret all scriptural text. St. John 14:26. But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. The Holy Ghost makes overseers of men among men to feed the Church of God, which He purchased with His own blood. God is a Spirit: Spirit has not flesh or blood. God purchased the sins in this world for all time with His own Blood. I Timothy 3:16. And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. Acts 20:28
