Book Transportation Engineering and Planning Volume I

Download or read book Transportation Engineering and Planning Volume I written by Tschangho John Kim and published by EOLSS Publications. This book was released on 2009-04-15 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transportation Engineering and Planning is a component of Encyclopedia of Physical Sciences, Engineering and Technology Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. The Theme on Transportation Engineering and Planning presents the readers with diverse sources of information and knowledge about transportation engineering and planning, to help ensure that informed actions are compatible with sustainable world development. It begins with a historical analysis of transportation development, since an understanding of how transportation technologies developed is a prerequisite for understanding issues involved in transportation systems, and for developing sound policy analysis. Next, the various chapters analyze transportation problems, discusses the state of public policy addressing those problems, considers the causes and effects of changes in demand for mobility as the socio-economic environment changes, and then deals with the fundamental questions related to transportation. These two volumes are aimed at the following a wide spectrum of audiences from the merely curious to those seeking in-depth knowledge: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.

Book Transportation Planning Handbook

Download or read book Transportation Planning Handbook written by ITE (Institute of Transportation Engineers) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-08-01 with total page 1204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A multi-disciplinary approach to transportation planning fundamentals The Transportation Planning Handbook is a comprehensive, practice-oriented reference that presents the fundamental concepts of transportation planning alongside proven techniques. This new fourth edition is more strongly focused on serving the needs of all users, the role of safety in the planning process, and transportation planning in the context of societal concerns, including the development of more sustainable transportation solutions. The content structure has been redesigned with a new format that promotes a more functionally driven multimodal approach to planning, design, and implementation, including guidance toward the latest tools and technology. The material has been updated to reflect the latest changes to major transportation resources such as the HCM, MUTCD, HSM, and more, including the most current ADA accessibility regulations. Transportation planning has historically followed the rational planning model of defining objectives, identifying problems, generating and evaluating alternatives, and developing plans. Planners are increasingly expected to adopt a more multi-disciplinary approach, especially in light of the rising importance of sustainability and environmental concerns. This book presents the fundamentals of transportation planning in a multidisciplinary context, giving readers a practical reference for day-to-day answers. Serve the needs of all users Incorporate safety into the planning process Examine the latest transportation planning software packages Get up to date on the latest standards, recommendations, and codes Developed by The Institute of Transportation Engineers, this book is the culmination of over seventy years of transportation planning solutions, fully updated to reflect the needs of a changing society. For a comprehensive guide with practical answers, The Transportation Planning Handbook is an essential reference.

Book The National Transportation System Initiative

Download or read book The National Transportation System Initiative written by and published by . This book was released on 1996 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This progress report describes the development of the NTS initiative and proposed future activities to bring the NTS to its full potential. A set of preliminary national transportation performance indicators is proposed. These performance indicators should be seen as the beginning of a process rather than as the definitive set of national transportation system indicators. A second part of the NTS analytical process involves the development and application of a national transportation network analysis capability (NTNAC) that will provide the ability to evaluate the national network in a multi- modal manner. Using the NTNAC, problems with the Nation's transportation system can be identified and policy options to address these problems evaluated. The report concludes with a discussion of the use of the NTS within the Department. It is proposed that the results of the analyses carried out using the national transportation performance measures and the NTNAC in the assessment of the Nation's transportation system, the identification of issues, and the analysis of options be presented in biennial State of the National Transportation System reports.
