Book PRELIMINARY STUDIES OF CLIMATE

Download or read book PRELIMINARY STUDIES OF CLIMATE written by Zhiren Wang and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2016-11-12 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book I preliminarily study climate-environment dynamics that I hope will usher a new era of climate prediction and contribute to interdisciplinary studies on climate, paleoclimate, atmospheric sciences, physical oceanography, astronomy, etc., through my: 1) establishing a general dynamics for geophysical fluids under the Sun-Moon gravitation (SMG), 2) creating new modeling and analytical methods, 3) introducing SMG and geological factors into climatic system to include the accumulative climatic effects of the SMG-induced fluid motions, 4) theoretically solving the dynamic mechanism for the multiple climate-paleoclimate variabilities, phase adjustment of interannual variation, circulation structure, and planetary rotations, 5) exploring the reproducible Earth's heat through SMG-driven magma motion, 6) finding and avoiding "SMG-Eulerian dilemmas," and 7) numerically modeling the impacts of physical environment and climate changes on coastal ecosystem. The precious heritages for climate dynamics are summarized as the important concepts and relationships for the physical atmosphere and oceans by combining classic physical oceanography, atmospheric sciences, and climatology, with some of my new dynamic solutions for the waves and motions of geophysical fluids in order to facilitate the reference and review by scientists and students. Summed from individual activities under big backgrounds, anthropogenic impacts on climate and environment are essential. Some local environment-responses on individual planes are personally shared at the end of this book. An abundant, graceful, broad, and breathtaking movie is being played through the intelligently created and participable climate-environment system that continuously adjusts itself to a better plot if not bothered too much. You and I are involved in it as protagonists and fated to play positive roles with the conscience, wisdom, and back of love that bears the responsible shoulders and hands.

Book Evaluating Progress of the U S Climate Change Science Program

Download or read book Evaluating Progress of the U S Climate Change Science Program written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2007-12-28 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Climate Change Science Program (CCSP) coordinates the efforts of 13 federal agencies to understand why climate is changing, to improve predictions about how it will change in the future, and to use that information to assess impacts on human systems and ecosystems and to better support decision making. Evaluating Progress of the U.S. Climate Change Science Program is the first review of the CCSP's progress since the program was established in 2002. It lays out a method for evaluating the CCSP, and uses that method to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the entire program and to identify areas where progress has not met expectations. The committee found that the program has made good progress in documenting and understanding temperature trends and related environmental changes on a global scale, as well as in understanding the influence of human activities on these observed changes. The ability to predict future climate changes also has improved, but efforts to understand the impacts of such changes on society and analyze mitigation and adaptation strategies are still relatively immature. The program also has not met expectations in supporting decision making, studying regional impacts, and communicating with a wider group of stakeholders.

Book Advancing the Science of Climate Change

Download or read book Advancing the Science of Climate Change written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2011-01-10 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for-and in many cases is already affecting-a broad range of human and natural systems. The compelling case for these conclusions is provided in Advancing the Science of Climate Change, part of a congressionally requested suite of studies known as America's Climate Choices. While noting that there is always more to learn and that the scientific process is never closed, the book shows that hypotheses about climate change are supported by multiple lines of evidence and have stood firm in the face of serious debate and careful evaluation of alternative explanations. As decision makers respond to these risks, the nation's scientific enterprise can contribute through research that improves understanding of the causes and consequences of climate change and also is useful to decision makers at the local, regional, national, and international levels. The book identifies decisions being made in 12 sectors, ranging from agriculture to transportation, to identify decisions being made in response to climate change. Advancing the Science of Climate Change calls for a single federal entity or program to coordinate a national, multidisciplinary research effort aimed at improving both understanding and responses to climate change. Seven cross-cutting research themes are identified to support this scientific enterprise. In addition, leaders of federal climate research should redouble efforts to deploy a comprehensive climate observing system, improve climate models and other analytical tools, invest in human capital, and improve linkages between research and decisions by forming partnerships with action-oriented programs.

Book Climate Change Preliminary Observations on Geo Engineering Science Federal Efforts and Governance Issues

Download or read book Climate Change Preliminary Observations on Geo Engineering Science Federal Efforts and Governance Issues written by Frank Rusco and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. It is urgent that we must reduce emissions of carbon dioxide to help mitigate negative effects of climate change. Recently, there have been questions about geo-engineering (GE) -- large-scale deliberate interventions in the earth's climate system to diminish climate change. Most GE proposals fall into two approaches: solar radiation management, which offset temp. increases by reflecting a small percentage of the sun's light back into space; and carbon dioxide removal, which removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This testimony focuses on: (1) the state of the science regarding GE approaches and their effects; (2) fed. involvement in GE activities; and (3) the views of experts about the extent to which fed. laws and internat. agree. apply to GE.

Book Global Climate Change and Public Health

Download or read book Global Climate Change and Public Health written by Kent E. Pinkerton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-09-28 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pulmonary physicians and scientists currently have minimal capacity to respond to climate change and its impacts on health. The extent to which climate change influences the prevalence and incidence of respiratory morbidity remains largely undefined. However, evidence is increasing that climate change does drive respiratory disease onset and exacerbation as a result of increased ambient and indoor air pollution, desertification, heat stress, wildfires, and the geographic and temporal spread of pollens, molds and infectious agents. Preliminary research has revealed climate change to have potentially direct and indirect adverse impacts on respiratory health. Published studies have linked climate change to increases in respiratory disease, including the following: changing pollen releases impacting asthma and allergic rhinitis, heat waves causing critical care-related diseases, climate driven air pollution increases, exacerbating asthma and COPD, desertification increasing particulate matter (PM) exposures, and climate related changes in food and water security impacting infectious respiratory disease through malnutrition (pneumonia, upper respiratory infections). High level ozone and ozone exposure has been linked to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, and acute lower respiratory infection. Global Climate Change and Public Health is an important new volume based on the research, findings, and discussions of US and international experts on respiratory health and climate change. This volume addresses issues of major importance to respiratory health and fills a major gap in the current literature. The ATS Climate Change and Respiratory Health Workshop was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 15, 2010. The purpose of the meeting was to address the threat to global respiratory health posed by climate change. The workshop was attended by domestic and international experts as well as representatives of international respiratory societies and key US federal agencies. Dr. Pinkerton and Dr. Rom, the editors of this title, were co-chairs of the Climate Change Workshop and Symposium.
