Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 29 (thesis year 1984) a total of 12,637 theses titles from 23 Canadian and 202 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 29 reports theses submitted in 1984, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Special Computer Architectures for Pattern Processing

Download or read book Special Computer Architectures for Pattern Processing written by King-Sun Fu and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It has been recognized for a long time that a conventional sequential processor is inefficient for operations on pictorial data where relatively simple operations need to be performed on a large number of data elements (pixels). Though many parallel processing architectures for picture processing have been proposed in the past, very few have actually been implemented due to the costs involved. With LSI technology, it is becoming possible to realize parallel architectures at a modest cost. In the following the authors review some of the proposed architectures for pattern recognition and image processing.

Book Power Aware Computer Systems

Download or read book Power Aware Computer Systems written by Babak Falsafi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-12-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Welcome to the proceedings of the 3rd Power-Aware Computer Systems (PACS 2003) Workshop held in conjunction with the 36th Annual International Symposium on Microarchitecture (MICRO-36). The increase in power and - ergy dissipation in computer systems has begun to limit performance and has also resulted in higher cost and lower reliability. The increase also implies - ducedbatterylifeinportablesystems.Becauseofthemagnitudeoftheproblem, alllevelsofcomputersystems, includingcircuits, architectures, andsoftware, are being employed to address power and energy issues. PACS 2003 was the third workshop in its series to explore power- and energy-awareness at all levels of computer systems and brought together experts from academia and industry. These proceedings include 14 research papers, selected from 43 submissions, spanningawidespectrumofareasinpower-awaresystems.Wehavegrouped the papers into the following categories: (1) compilers, (2) embedded systems, (3) microarchitectures, and (4) cache and memory systems. The ?rst paper on compiler techniques proposes pointer reuse analysis that is biased by runtime information (i.e., the targets of pointers are determined based on the likelihood of their occurrence at runtime) to map accesses to ener- e?cient memory access paths (e.g., avoid tag match). Another paper proposes compiling multiple programs together so that disk accesses across the programs can be synchronized to achieve longer sleep times in disks than if the programs are optimized separately.

Book Models in System Design

    Book Details:
  • Author : Jean-Michel Bergé
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1997-04-30
  • ISBN : 9780792398745
  • Pages : 176 pages

Download or read book Models in System Design written by Jean-Michel Bergé and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1997-04-30 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Models in System Design tracks the general trend in electronics in terms of size, complexity and difficulty of maintenance. System design is by nature combined with prototyping, mixed domain design, and verification, and it is no surprise that today's modeling and models are used in various levels of system design and verification. In order to deal with constraints induced by volume and complexity, new methods and techniques have been defined. Models in System Design provides an overview of the latest modeling techniques for use by system designers. The first part of the book considers system level design, discussing such issues as abstraction, performance and trade-offs. There is also a section on automating system design. The second part of the book deals with some of the newest aspects of embedded system design. These include co-verification and prototyping. Finally, the book includes a section on the use of the MCSE methodology for hardware/software co-design. Models in System Design will help designers and researchers to understand these latest techniques in system design and as such will be of interest to all involved in embedded system design.

Book Modern Processor Design

Download or read book Modern Processor Design written by John Paul Shen and published by Waveland Press. This book was released on 2013-07-30 with total page 657 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptual and precise, Modern Processor Design brings together numerous microarchitectural techniques in a clear, understandable framework that is easily accessible to both graduate and undergraduate students. Complex practices are distilled into foundational principles to reveal the authors insights and hands-on experience in the effective design of contemporary high-performance micro-processors for mobile, desktop, and server markets. Key theoretical and foundational principles are presented in a systematic way to ensure comprehension of important implementation issues. The text presents fundamental concepts and foundational techniques such as processor design, pipelined processors, memory and I/O systems, and especially superscalar organization and implementations. Two case studies and an extensive survey of actual commercial superscalar processors reveal real-world developments in processor design and performance. A thorough overview of advanced instruction flow techniques, including developments in advanced branch predictors, is incorporated. Each chapter concludes with homework problems that will institute the groundwork for emerging techniques in the field and an introduction to multiprocessor systems.
