Book Recrystallization of Heavily Cold rolled Uranium Sheet

Download or read book Recrystallization of Heavily Cold rolled Uranium Sheet written by W. R. Yario and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Changes in mean expansion coefficients upon annealing uranium sheet that had been rolled to 80% reduction in thickness at room temperature indicated that three different preferred orientations could be developed upon recrystallization. One preferred orientation, which is essentially the same as that of the as-rolled material, resulted from annealing for long times at 360 deg C or at a lower temperature; a second type was created by annealing for moderate times between 400 and 600 deg C; and the third accompanied grain coarsening at 650 deg C. The microstructures of the as-rolled and annealed specimens were extremely heterogeneous because of the large grain size present prior to final fabrication at room temperature. The as-rolled structures consisted of heavily deformed areas and smaller quantities of lightly deformed material. The annealing of the former was characterized by initial creation of very fine recrystallized grains which were absorbed later by discontinuous growth of larger grains. Lightly deformed areas, upon annealing, first exhibited recovery by polygonization and then underwent normal recrystallization.

Book PREFERRED ORIENTATION IN ROLLED AND IN RECRYSTALLIZED HIGH PURITY URANIUM ROD Final Report of Metallurgy Program 4 1 17

Download or read book PREFERRED ORIENTATION IN ROLLED AND IN RECRYSTALLIZED HIGH PURITY URANIUM ROD Final Report of Metallurgy Program 4 1 17 written by and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The preferred orientation of a relatively small piece of high-purity uranium rod, rolled to an 85% reduction at 300 deg C, has been determined in the as-rolled and in the recrystallized conditions. The 12 different charts obtained indicated that the as-rolled texture could be described as a duplex (041) and (352) with the (041) being the major component and with considerable spread about each component. The recrystallized rod showed approximate (041) and (392) components with considerable spread. These texture components for both the as- rolled and the recrystallized rods are not too different from those previously reported for reactor-grade uranium rod. However, it was noted that the texture appeared to be quite sharp for the reduction used, and the maximum intensity on an inverse pole figure was considerably displaced from the periphery of an (001) standard projection for both the rolled and recrystallized rods. (auth).

Book Preferred Orientation in Cross rolled Uranium

Download or read book Preferred Orientation in Cross rolled Uranium written by G. R. Mallett and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study is made of the preferred orientation that occurs as a result of cross-rolling uranium sheet. The study is made by the use of inverse-pole figures and calculated thermal expansion coefficients.

Book Recrystallization in Rolled Uranium Sheet Final Report Metallurgy Program 4 1 5

Download or read book Recrystallization in Rolled Uranium Sheet Final Report Metallurgy Program 4 1 5 written by and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: X-ray diffraction measurements of uranium sheet reduced 76% in thickness at room temperature and after annealing at various temperatures indicated that as- rolled and recrystallized materials have different preferred orientations, contrary to previously reported works. The preferred orientations of samples annealed at 380 and 400 deg C were very similar, but different from that of a set of samples annealed at 450 deg C. Reannealing at 450 deg C did not change essentially the preferred orientation established by annealing at 380 deg C. Dilatometric measurements in directions parallel and normal to the rolling direction and lying in the plane of rolling did not conclusively substantiate the x-ray diffraction measurements. Recrystallization at temperatures from 360 to 450 deg C of the homogeneously deformed as-rolled structure was characterized by the formation of extremely fine grains in the early stage which later were absorbed by growth of somewhat larger grains. Evidence of ordinary secondary recrystallization was observed in specimens annealed at 600 deg C. (auth).
