Book Prefeasibility Study of Erosion Control Systems for a Test Berm in the Beaufort Sea

Download or read book Prefeasibility Study of Erosion Control Systems for a Test Berm in the Beaufort Sea written by Netherlands Engineering Consultants and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Within the framework of the technical assistance to Dome Petroleum Company Canada a study has been executed by Nedeco, (The Netherlands), on the possible erosion control systems for the top of a test island, to be realized in the Beaufort Sea. The definition of the problem, as formulated by Dome, is detailed in Appendix 1. By special request the realization of a system consisting of fixed ballast mats has been considered. The nature of the problems and the special circumstances in the Beaufort Sea require a complete study of a very large number of alternatives. Considering the very short time available for the investigation, the number of alternatives has been limited to those which are known to be realistic from existing prototype or scale execution methods. The working circumstances in the Beaufort Sea were also taken into consideration in the evaluation of the available methods. The presentation of the methods, and particularly the conclusions, apply to the test island. In case application for an APLA should also be considered, it is possible that the conclusions will have to be adjusted in view of the then changing efficiency of investments in equipment. The present study contains particularly the primary calculations, considerations and conclusions."--ASTIS [online] database.

Download or read book Prefeasibility Study on Erosion Control Systems for a Test Berm in the Beaufort Sea September 1980 written by Netherlands Engineering Consultants and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Within the framework of the technical assistance to Dome Petroleum Company Canada a study has been executed by Nedeco, the Netherlands on the possible erosion control systems for the top of a test island, to be realized in the Beaufort Sea. The problem definition as formulated by Dome is enclosed in Appendix 1. On special request the realization of a system consisting of fixed ballast mats has been considered too. The nature of the problems and the special circumstances in the Beaufort Sea make that, with a complete study, a very large number of alternatives can be distinguished. Taking the very short time, which is available for the investigation, into consideration, the number of alternatives has been limited to those, which are realistic from a point of view that prototype or scale execution methods were known. Also the working circumstances in the Beaufort Sea were taken in consideration in the evaluation of the available methods. The presentation of the methods and particularly the conclusions apply to the test island. In case application for an APLA should also be considered, it is possible that the conclusions have to be adjusted in view of the then changing efficiency of investments in equipment. Book Parched The Cape Town Drought Story

Download or read book Parched The Cape Town Drought Story written by Gisela Kaiser and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-10-25 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents the history of water supply to Cape Town, leading up to the worst ever drought recorded, through political turmoil impacting on drought interventions and resulting in the adoption of an integrated water strategy. Regions reliant on water supply from rainfed dams have always been vulnerable to the impact of drought. This is exacerbated by the uncertainty of future rainfall, which is never guaranteed, and reliance is placed on modelling using historic data. While weather has always been variable, climate has been generally reliable. With anthropogenic activity causing changes in climate, the validity of modelling based on history is currently not fully trusted. Unless the storage capacity is sufficient to carry through numerous seasons of poor rainfall, even with water restrictions to match demand and supply in times of depleted rainfall, the risk of reservoirs running dry remains a threat.

Book Coastal Watershed Management

Download or read book Coastal Watershed Management written by A. Fares and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2008-05-23 with total page 433 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coastal watersheds differ from others by their unique features, including proximity to the ocean, weather and rainfall patterns, subsurface features, and land covers. Land use changes and competing needs for valuable water and land resources are especially more distinctive to such watersheds. This book covers recent research relevant to coastal watersheds. It addresses the impact of a stream’s chemical, biological, and sediment pollutants on the quality of the receiving waters, such as estuaries, bays, and near-shore waters. The contents of the book can be divided into three sections; a) overview of hydrological modelling, b) water quality assessment, and c) watershed management. This book differs from other hydrology books by dealing with coastal watersheds which are characterized by their unique features: including weather and rainfall patterns, subsurface characteristics, and land use and cover. In addition to academia, the book should be of interest to organizations concerned with watershed management, such as local and federal governments and environmental groups. Overall, the book is expected to satisfy a great need toward understanding and managing critical areas in many parts of the world.
