Book An Analysis of the Stability and Control Characteristics of an Ejector Wing V STOL During Transition

Download or read book An Analysis of the Stability and Control Characteristics of an Ejector Wing V STOL During Transition written by George Kurylowich and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis was performed to investigate the longitudinal stability and control characteristics of an ejector wing configuration V/STOL in transition. A derivative approach was used to obtain dynamic responses about specified trim speeds, and analysis of these responses provided an insight into the significant characteristics that might affect the pilot's control over the aircraft. The thrust levels necessary to meet the control requirements specified in MIL-F-83300 for a Level 1 category vehicle were determined as well. A similar study was made for a stowable rotor configuration, and results for the stowable rotor V/STOL and the ejector wing configuration were compared. Finally, the downwash characteristics of the ejector wing configuration were evaluated in terms of their effect on ground equipment and personnel. Spray generation during hover over water is also discussed.

Book Modeling XV 15 Tilt rotor Aircraft Dynamics by Frequency and Time domain Identification Techniques

Download or read book Modeling XV 15 Tilt rotor Aircraft Dynamics by Frequency and Time domain Identification Techniques written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Models of the open-loop hover dynamics of the XV-15 Tilt-Rotor Aircraft are extracted from flight data using two approaches: frequency-domain and time-domain identification. Both approaches are reviewed and the identification results are presented and compared in detail. The extracted models compare favorably, with the differences associated mostly with the inherent weighting of each technique. Step responses are used to show that the predictive capability of the models from both techniques is excellent. Based on the results of this study, the relative strengths and weaknesses of the frequency and time-domain techniques are summarized, and a proposal for a coordinated parameter identification approach is presented. Book STOL Aircraft Structural Vibration Prediction Method Volume I Prediction Procedure and Aircraft Parametric Studies

Download or read book STOL Aircraft Structural Vibration Prediction Method Volume I Prediction Procedure and Aircraft Parametric Studies written by C. S. Doherty and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A structural vibration response prediction method was developed for STOL type aircraft. The method was developed to significantly improve environmental prediction methods that have been used in the past. A mathematically rigorous spectral analysis approach was developed that simulated the structure with a finite element model which used correlated and calculated acoustic input data for a forcing function. The structural vibration predictions adequately described the operating levels and spectral frequency content of chosen locations on two STOL aircraft. Comparisons of predicted and measured data show that the method developed may be used for a precise way to predict complex structural response to jet engine excitation. The development of prediction method for determination of external acoustic levels for STOL aircraft was accomplished in a concise manner. The method is described in detail with successful comparisons of actual measurements to predictions. The method is seen to give good results and represents a significant improvement in acoustic prediction methods for STOL aircraft.

Book Dynamic Response of Aircraft to Unloaded and Loaded Pavement Profiles

Download or read book Dynamic Response of Aircraft to Unloaded and Loaded Pavement Profiles written by William H. Highter and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to determine whether or not there exists a significant difference in the simulated dynamic response of an F-4C aircraft traversing either an unloaded (undeflected) or loaded (deflected) pavement profile. The Air Force computer code, TAXI, was adapted for use on the Clarkson College IBM 360 Model 65 computer from the CDC 6600 computer used by the Air Force Civil Engineering Center. The TAXI code calculates the vertical accelerations at three points on an aircraft traverses a pavement profile. It appears that there is no significant difference in the response of TAXI to unloaded and loaded pavement profiles at speeds up to 133.3 feet per second. At higher speeds some rejections of the mean do occur, but in light of the continuous acceptance of the test of the distribtion and the predominant acceptance of the test of the mean, these are felt to be insignificant. It appears that the present practice of using unloaded pavement profiles for aircraft dynamic response simulation is acceptable and loaded pavement profiles need not be obtained for this purpose.
