Download or read book Air Quality in Cities written by Nicolas Moussiopoulos and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-05-14 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding urban air pollution is a prerequisite to finding effective solutions to air quality problems and for a sustainable development in the urban environment. In this book the current state-of-the-art in urban air pollution research is presented. A major focus is on suitable air pollution modelling concepts, covering also street canyon geometries. Such models may be applied to establish source-receptor relationships in support of urban air quality management. Procedures for evaluating the performance of air pollution models are proposed and results from field experiments, and laboratory studies are shown to provide better insight into the characteristics of air pollution at the urban and local scales. The contents of this book are of a high policy relevance, given their direct connection to the formulation of improved tools for urban air quality assessments.

Book Modeling and Visualization of Air Quality Impacts of Transport Schemes

Download or read book Modeling and Visualization of Air Quality Impacts of Transport Schemes written by El-Said Mamdouh Mahmoud Zahran and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-14 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book introduces three main elements to model and visualize the air quality impacts of transport schemes. The first are novel automatic collection and processing algorithms for traffic flow and geospatial data for input to air pollution models of transport schemes under analysis. The second is a novel strategy to improve the modeling of air quality by the calibration of input background air pollution concentrations. The third is a novel 3D air pollution dispersion interface for the 3D visualization of the air quality predictions in 3D digital city models. The automation of input data collection and processing reduces significantly the time and effort required to set up the air pollution model. The calibration of background concentrations significantly improves the accuracy of, not only the annual mean, but also the hourly, air quality predictions and effectively reduces the model runtime. The 3D air pollution dispersion interface provides an intuitive 3D visualization of the air quality predictions at and above the ground surface in a single 3D virtual scene. Also, the book explains how to alter the design of a transport scheme to achieve certain air quality objectives.

Book The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program

Download or read book The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program written by National Research Council (U.S.). Committee for the Evaluation of the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program and published by Transportation Research Board National Research. This book was released on 2002 with total page 636 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) program was enacted as part of the surface transportation legislation. This work recommends that Congress retain the sole federal surface transportation program that funds projects to reduce pollution and traffic congestion in areas that must comply with national air quality standards.

Book Air Quality Analysis for Urban Transportation Planning

Download or read book Air Quality Analysis for Urban Transportation Planning written by Joel L. Horowitz and published by MIT Press (MA). This book was released on 1982 with total page 424 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The protection of air quality through the control of man-made pollution is not only a relatively recent issue of policy concern but also a relatively new subject of scientific investigation.

Book A Guide to the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program

Download or read book A Guide to the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program written by United States. Federal Highway Administration and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act of 1991 (ISTEA) established the Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement (CMAQ) Program. The CMAQ Program emphasizes the importance of the link between transportation and air quality, by providing 6 billion dollars between 1992-1997 for transportation projects and programs to improve air quality. Consequently, many areas will be able to implement transportation control measures (TCMs), in compliance with the mandates of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (CAAA).

Book Air Quality Degradation Assessment Due to Traffic and Industrial Pollution

Download or read book Air Quality Degradation Assessment Due to Traffic and Industrial Pollution written by Naheed Akhtar and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-06-16 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Pakistan air pollution is increasing at an alarming rate that poses some serious threats to health issues. Dust and smoke particles are generally twice the world average and five times higher than the developed world but unfortunately no serious action has yet been taken in this concern. This book has been completed with the help of literature review and field testing by the help of portable digital detectors. The available data on air quality for the twin cities of Pakistan (Rawalpindi/Islamabad), especially information regarding input sources were collected from all the relevant organizations/departments and after that the actual `experimental work was done. Analysis of collected data was carried out in general to signify background of air quality in these cities. Different points with respect to traffic and industrial loads were selected and tested for different selected parameters. After that a thorough experimental research work was carried out on these locations to study the air quality. Air quality degradation due to road transportation and industrialization trend was checked in the field. Effects of traffic flow on air quality in these cities due to increase in number of vehicles per year was studied experimentally for better understanding of the phenomena. Sampling was performed in detailed to check the quantity of CO2, NOx, HC and CO etc. As per study of JICA in the year 2000, examination of SO2, CO, SPM data shows pollution levels exceeding the international standards. The research work done showed gradual increase in the air pollution in both cities with a percentage of 10% to 15%. Experimental work presented in the graphical form and computer models in the book based on excel sheet proposed on the collected data. Proper solutions are proposed in the book to improve the air quality in these cities. Results mentioned were analyzed graphically to explore the trends through interpolation estimated value of these pollutants which are predicted to highlight the fact that air pollution is on increase and immediate actions must be taken to restrain air pollution level to their minimum. At the end of this book recommendations are given to curtail air pollution levels in the capital city area of Pakistan.

Book How to Better Predict the Effect of Urban Traffic and Weather on Air Pollution Norwegian Evidence from Machine Learning Approaches

Download or read book How to Better Predict the Effect of Urban Traffic and Weather on Air Pollution Norwegian Evidence from Machine Learning Approaches written by Cong Cao and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper uses machine learning approaches to predict the association between traffic volume, air pollution, and meteorological conditions. A key focus is on the interaction between these factors. The paper does this using hourly traffic volume, [[EQUATION]], and weather data for Oslo, Norway. I considered a total of ten datasets of the 2019 whole-year data to verify the prediction accuracy of the models. I find that the autoregressive integrated moving average model with exogenous input variables, and the autoregressive moving average dynamic linear model outperform the support vector machine and decision tree in predicting air pollution. At the same time, I also explored the effect of dividing the seasons and weather subsets on prediction accuracy. Finally, my study makes optimal policy recommendations for reducing air pollution from traffic volume, after considering the interaction and lagged effects of meteorology, time variables, traffic, and air pollution.
