Book Precision Radar Pointing and Tracking Using an Adaptive Kalman Filter

Download or read book Precision Radar Pointing and Tracking Using an Adaptive Kalman Filter written by Raymond Lee Kolibaba and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 97 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Adaptive Extended Kalman Filter technique was developed to improve the tracking capabilities of an airborne tracking system. A maneuver determination technique was developed as well as an adaptive technique for the probability model of target acceleration. The computer simulation was run using four different types of data. Computation of the acceleration state was inaccurate due to imprecise modeling of the acceleration states. The adaptive technique reduced the range error of the non-adaptive filter. A maneuver was determined when a bias was detected on the range measurement residual. (Author).

Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by TPRC at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemina tion phases of the activity was transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we have concluded that it will be in the interest of all concerned if the printing and distribution of the volume were handled by a well-known publishing house to assure improved service and better communication. Hence, effective with this Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences will be disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Corporation of New York. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. As we embark on this new partnership with Plenum, we also initiate a new venture in that this important annual reference work now covers Canadian universities as well as those in the United States. We are sure that this broader base will greatly enhance the value of these volumes.

Book The Extended Preferred Ordering Theorem for Radar Tracking Using the Extended Kalman Filter

Download or read book The Extended Preferred Ordering Theorem for Radar Tracking Using the Extended Kalman Filter written by Donald Myron Leskiw and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-08 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A certain problem in nonlinear estimation exists in radar tracking. Usually radar detections provide instantaneous position measurements in radar (polar) coordinates at discrete times, while the tracks (estimated positions and motions over continuous time) are determined in rectangular coordinates using the Kalman filter, which is a linear estimator. And so most radar tracks tend to be biased and their covariance matrices inconsistent with the true ones. Of course, some techniques have been proposed for "debiasing" them. It is shown here, however, that the leading one can make the biases worse; a remedy for that is provided. But the focus here is upon the extended Kalman filter, which is a locally linearized estimator. In an earlier work by this author - dubbed the Preferred Ordering Theorem (POT) - it was shown that the linearization errors in the range direction can be virtually eliminated by using the measurement components of a detection recursively in the order azimuth first, range last. But that has a fundamental limitation, namely, that "preferred" order, and a range measurement component is required. So here a new version is provided, dubbed the Extended-POT (EPOT). Under it, not only is the update more efficient than the POT's, the measurements may be used in any order with virtually the same results.

Book Beyond the Kalman Filter Particle Filters for Tracking Applications

Download or read book Beyond the Kalman Filter Particle Filters for Tracking Applications written by Branko Ristic and published by Artech House. This book was released on 2003-12-01 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For most tracking applications the Kalman filter is reliable and efficient, but it is limited to a relatively restricted class of linear Gaussian problems. To solve problems beyond this restricted class, particle filters are proving to be dependable methods for stochastic dynamic estimation. Packed with 867 equations, this cutting-edge book introduces the latest advances in particle filter theory, discusses their relevance to defense surveillance systems, and examines defense-related applications of particle filters to nonlinear and non-Gaussian problems. With this hands-on guide, you can develop more accurate and reliable nonlinear filter designs and more precisely predict the performance of these designs. You can also apply particle filters to tracking a ballistic object, detection and tracking of stealthy targets, tracking through the blind Doppler zone, bi-static radar tracking, passive ranging (bearings-only tracking) of maneuvering targets, range-only tracking, terrain-aided tracking of ground vehicles, and group and extended object tracking.

Book An Adaptive Distributed Measurement Extended Kalman Filter for a Short Range Tracker

Download or read book An Adaptive Distributed Measurement Extended Kalman Filter for a Short Range Tracker written by Robert L. Jensen and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 173 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An adaptive Extended Kalman Filter algorithm is designed to track a distributed (elliptical) source target in a closed loop tracking problem, using outputs from a forward looking infrared (FLIR) sensor as measurements. The filter adaptively estimates image intensity, target size and shape, dynamic driving noise, and translational position changes due to two effects: actual target motion, and atmospheric jitter. Atmospheric backgrounds are studied for the effect of temporal and spatial correlations on filter performance. A Monte Carlo analysis is conducted to determine filter performance for two target scenarios: approximately straight approach and cross range constant velocity. Good performance is obtained for the first two trajectories. For the second trajectory, a one sigma tracking error of .2 pixel (4 microrad) with a signal to noise ratio of 12.5. The filter adapts well to changes in image intensity, size, and shape. (Author).

Book Optimal Radar Tracking Systems

Download or read book Optimal Radar Tracking Systems written by George Biernson and published by Wiley-Interscience. This book was released on 1990-04-03 with total page 616 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a state-of-the-art presentation of optimal radar tracking systems based on the sophisticated Altair radar, which uses Kalman filtering to perform optimal long-range tracking of ballistic missile warheads. This engineering example offers a means for explaining Kalman filter theory and many other technical issues critical to the design of a modern optimal radar tracking system, all in arelatively simple manner. Material includes discussion of feedback control, modulation and demodulation of signals, digital sampled-data systems, digital computer simulation, statistical analysis of random signals, detection and tracking processes in a radar system. This study of Altair features a considerable amount of detail concerning the operation of a complex electronic system, thereby presenting a study that is unusual in the unclassified literature.

Book Adaptive Filtering for Single Target Tracking

Download or read book Adaptive Filtering for Single Target Tracking written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many algorithms may be applied to solve the target tracking problem, including the Kalman Filter and different types of nonlinear filters, such as the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF), Unscented Kalman Filter (PF). This paper describes an intelligent algorithm that was developed to elegantly select the appropriate filtering technique depending on the problem and the scenario, based upon a sliding window of the Normalized Innovation Squared (NIS). This technique shows promise for the single target, single radar tracking problem domain. Future work is planned to expand the use of this technique to multiple targets and multiple sensors.
